Warm the World with Service.Make a Difference.by Brian Cheung

LTG Div 20

Hello Division 20!

The autumn is quickly fading, and winter is arriv-ing! Although the tempera-ture is dropping, your pas-sion for Key Club shouldn’t! I hope that you are all off to a great start for the service year, and I encour-age all of you to push your limits and do great things in the next month. Especially as the holidays approach, know that there are many people in the com-munity that are suffering from conditions we often fail to recognize. Homeless-ness and hunger are some of the most notable. Take time to consider this and develop some projects that focus on these issues! This issue will highlight some important events coming in the next month. Please pay close attention to these dates and mark them on your calendar!

Yours in Caring and Service,

November: Prematurity Awareness Month! by Sarah Noorani

LTG Div 10

Did you know that each and every day, more than 1,400 infants in the United States will be born prema-turely? Premature birth is the biggest killer among newborn babies. Even babies that are only a few weeks early can still suffer from lifelong illnesses which threaten their lungs, heart and immune system. In our country, 1 in every 8 infants is born prematurely, and many of those births could have been prevented! The March of Dimes is working every day to help reduce the number of deaths of premature babies and mothers. They are working to find the causes and cures for premature births and are working with hospitals all over the country to better equip their Neonatal Intensive Care Units and help save lives. Now, what can you do to get involved? There are several things you can do and help fight for preemies. Get your friends, club, and the entire school together. Don’t forget to also contact your local March of Dimes Chapter; they can help you get things started. A great thing to try is to have a 2 Week Fundraising Plan. Every day, have a different way to spread March of Dimes awareness and raise money. Things like a coin collection, denim day, food sales, purple day are all great ideas and very easy to implement. Talk to your advisors and principals about the cause and they should be more than willing to help. Don’t forget to use the internet to help promote your events! All over the country more and more teens are getting together and Partnering with March of Dimes, and you can too! You can volunteer at a NICU in your local hospital, or holding a book and toy drive to donate to children. The possibilities are endless once you decide to get involved and every little bit makes a difference! Check out all the resources available to you at marchofdimes.com, www.marchofdimesyouth.com/files/PAMYouthToolkit.pdf, and in the International Programs Cookbook. Good luck!
