Premium Sale Requirements
A new 4-H year means that it is time to start
thinking about the fair. It is required that
youth wishing to sell animals in the Premium
Sale at the fair next summer complete at least
three educational events or livestock activities
between August 1, 2018 and weigh-in at the
fair. These may be Rolling Prairie livestock
events, out of district spring shows and/or
livestock judging contests, and other events. If
you are not sure if an event will count ask Jen-
ny prior to attending to get verification. Also, it
is your responsibility to notify the office what
events you attended and/or participated in
order to receive credit for them. Local club
events or project meetings are not the only
activities that were meant to count toward the
requirement. We want you to attend both in
and out of district events for the requirement.
KAP Screening
The Kansas Award Portfolio (KAP) is used to
select area and state project winners. To be
eligible for area award selection, 4-H members
must have passed their 14th birthday, but not
their 19th birthday as of January 1, 2019. If
you want KAP forms to complete for these
projects, they are available at the Extension
Office. Also, I have information about com-
pleting the KAP and a copy of the scorecard
that is used in the judging available for your
use. Completed KAP’s are due in the Extension
Office January 4. If you would like help in com-
pleting the KAP, please let me know, I will be
glad to assist you in any way. Do not wait until
the last minute to do these. In order to do a
good job on the KAP’s, you need to spend
some time on them and not try to do them the
day they are due.
4-H Enrollment September 30 is the end of the 4-H year and October 1 starts to re-enroll for the new 4-H year. This year re-enrollment and new enroll-ments will all be done on 4-H Online https://ks.4honline.com If you can’t remember your log on or are having trouble call Doris or Jenny at (620)725-5890. Remember you must be 7 by January 1, 2019 to enroll in 4-H. Kids ages 5 and up may sign up to be in Cloverbuds. This year there will again be a $15 per member Kansas 4-H Program Fee. Enrollment Deadline for competing in the coun-
ty fair will be February 1st. Drop/Add Dead-
line will still be May 1st.
Volunteer Screening Process
August 1, 2014, Kansas 4-H implemented an updated volunteer screening policy for 4-H vol-unteers who work with youth or provide lead-ership to 4-H programs in public settings. Moving forward, all volunteers (in positions re-quiring screening) must be screened under the new process. Any steps completed under the old process will still be valid with the exception of the background screening which must be completed using the new process. An inter-view will now be required as speci-fied in the new process. Resources to support the new pro-cess are posted at http://www.kansas4-h.org/p.aspx?tabid=603. Resources are also availa-ble at the extension offices.
Volunteer Screening Checklist
• Kansas 4-H Volunteer Service Application complete, signed and dated • Interview complete • Kansas Child Abuse and Neglect Registry Information and Permission form filled out and mailed to Department for Children and Families • Background check • Orientation session completed • File reviewed • Name submitted to Local Extension Unit Board for Appointment

The mission of Wreaths Across America is to
Remember, Honor, and Teach. It is carried out
in part by coordinating wreath laying ceremo-
nies a specified Saturday in December at Ar-
lington, as well as veterans’ cemeteries and
other locations in all 50 states and beyond. We
also organize a week of events including inter-
national veteran’s tributes, ceremonies at State
Houses and a week-long “Veteran’s Parade”
between Maine and Virginia where we stop
along the way to spread our
message about the importance
of remembering our fallen he-
roes, honoring those who
serve, and teaching our chil-
dren about the sacrifices made
by veterans and their families
to preserve our freedoms. -

www.kansas4-H.org. Youth who are 13-19 by
January 1 of the current year are eligible to
attend. The $170 registration fee includes food
and hotel. The purpose of this event is for Kan-
sas youth to learn how the state legislative pro-
cess works and how their voice and participa-
tion in decision-making can make a difference
in their local communities. The legislative visit
will not only familiarize youth with the capitol
