Pope Francis All Saints Day

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven”. We might ask ourselves how a person poor of heart can be happy, one whose only treasure is the Kingdom of Heaven. The reason is exactly this: that having the heart stripped and free of so many worldly things, this person is “awaited” in the Kingdom of Heaven.

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted”. How can those who weep be happy? Yet, those who in life have never felt sadness, angst, sorrow, will never know the power of comfort. Instead, happy are those with the capacity to be moved, the capacity to feel in their heart the sorrow that exists in their life and in the lives of others. They will be happy! Because the tender hand of God the Father will comfort them and will caress them.

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God”. Let us look at the faces of those who go around sowing discord: are they happy? Those who are always seeking occasions to mislead, to take advantage of others, are they happy? No, they cannot be happy. Instead, those who patiently try to sow peace each day, are who artisans of peace, of reconciliation, yes, they are blessed, because they are true children of our Heavenly Father, who sows always and only peace, to the point that he sent his Son into the world as the seed of peace for humanity.

Rite of Acceptance After a period of inquiry and discernment those seeking entrance into the church are received in the first of the “threshold rites” of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA), and the first public liturgical ritual. In the Rite of Accep-tance, a change of identity takes place: inquirers become catechumens. They are officially welcomed by the Church as disciples, members (albeit not yet full members) of the household of faith and marked as God’s own in “the first consecration by the Church.”

Hope and Healing for Parents The Center of Jesus the Lord at Our Lady of Good Counsel, 1307 Louisiana Ave. is hosting a day of prayer and healing for parents on Saturday, November 12 from 8:30am to 6 pm. Inter-nationally acclaimed speaker and psychotherapist for over 25 years, Carol Razza, PhD will speak. Recom-mended donation $45 (lunch included) Flyer on Bulletin Board or call for more info: 529-1636.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word November 6, Sunday November 20, Sunday

LIFE EVERLASTING The second book of Maccabees tells a powerful story, a rather gruesome one at that. But central to it, beyond the horri-ble deaths inflicted upon the brothers and their mother, is their belief in the promise of resurrection and life everlasting in God.

Paul asks the Thessalonians to pray for him as he spreads Christ’s message of love, so that he might be delivered from other nonbelievers anxious to do him harm. The apostle is confident in such prayer, just as he is confident in the everlast-ing support of Jesus and God the Father.

And there’s that “everlasting” word again. The Saddu-cees, not buying the idea, ask Jesus an interesting—albeit meaningless—question about the status of married life at the Resurrection. He tells the non-believers that marriage isn’t an issue for the risen children of God. More importantly, he as-sures them that their ancestors do live on in God, even as evi-denced by the Father’s words to Moses.

TODAY’S READINGS

First Reading — The King of the world will raise us up to live again forever (2 Maccabees 7:1-2, 9-14).

Psalm — Lord, when your glory appears, my joy will be full (Psalm 17).

Second Reading — May the Lord encourage and strengthen your hearts (2 Thessalonians 2:16 — 3:5).

Gospel — Those who are deemed worthy of the coming age can no longer die (Luke 20:27-38)
