From the Principal’s Desk Fundraising seems to be a part of life these days. It appears that everything our children or ourselves
are in has some fundraising component to it. School can also be lumped into that basket.
We are funded by the division to cover basic educational needs such as textbooks and staff. Fundraising allows us to provide those special extras in our school such as field trips, busing costs, special assemblies, speakers coming into our school, helping with costs of Connect course (for parents), added special equipment, Science Fair and breakfast program just to name a few.
As a school we do two main fundraisers. We have ‘Meat Order’ fundraisers and a ‘Mom’s Pantry’ fundraiser. We run two main meat orders, in the fall (Sept/Oct) and in the spring( Mar/Apr) but have been known to put in a third one (May/June) if there is enough of a request for it. Mom’s Pantry usually happens in November so all of the baking needs for Christmas are on hand.
Some of the groups within our school do fundraising as well: Milk/Ice cream - Funds are used to assist with the cost of the grade 5 camp in May, and can be used for other student or programming costs that may come up throughout the year. Snack Machine - Funds can be used for special programs or special supplies. . Student Council - Subway - used for school spirit activities, school beautification, etc. Grad Class - Winterfest table, sometimes bottle drives and running concession at tournaments, depending on the funds they require for their graduation. Sports teams/Classes - Special concession or bake sales, etc. To offset costs for tournaments, travel, special supplies etc. School Council - pizza days & Holiday Gift Shop - The money goes to a variety of things. We encourage you all to join us for the school council meeting on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm in the Li-brary to have a say in how that money could be spent Band Society - Crafting Weekend (Nov 24-26) - Coco Brooks Pizza (February) - Crafting Weekend in Feb or March - and some raffles along the way. These funds go towards K-4 music supplies as well as the Middle School and High school Band programs and trips. CSES - Cremona School Enhancement Society - Puddle Party(Mar/Apr) ; Trip of the Month(Tickets on sale till Nov 30 - First draw is December 1st) + others that we may come up with throughout the year if required. These funds are used for sports clinics, playground equipment, drama lights, picnic tables, special speakers & programs, curtain tracking for the stage, Trickster and other Artist programs, etc. This group would love your input and assistance at their monthly meetings.
We would like to thank our community for supporting us in these projects and we hope that it will continue in the years to come. If you have any questions regarding any fundraisers please contact the school.
With continued thanks to all, Joanna Harvey
What a world we live in! We're always comparing ourselves to one another.
Tests compare your kids to others at school. At our next Parent Council
meeting administration will present how Cremona School compares to the
rest of the schools in the province on the basis of PAT's (provincial
achievement tests). But like all comparisons there's interesting nuances
to help us add flavour to the discussion. Come and learn from the spread
sheets, graphs, pie charts. And bring pie if you want.

Celebrating Excellence in Chinook’s Edge
A Message from the Superintendent
Our division’s strong achievements reflect the hard work and clear priorities of the entire Chinook’s Edge team. Results from the most recent Accountability Pillar and survey results show significant increases in the number of our students who are achieving both levels of acceptable and levels of excellence in Provincial Achievement Tests and Diploma Ex-ams across the board. We are proud of our high school completion rates, which continue to be well above provincial average, and we are always gratified by the high results Chinook’s Edge receives for the safe and caring culture in our schools. The focused efforts underway in schools across our division are creating a positive impact for students.
We are discussing the Accountability Pillar results with our staff, analyzing the data and working together on key goals for continued improvement. We are continuing to focus our efforts on literacy, academic excellence, career transitions, and social emotional outcomes, as we set each of our students up for a lifetime of success. Chinook’s Edge is a division of hardworking students, skilled staff, devoted parents and supportive communities. Together, we are a force in sup-port of our mission to help our students achieve success as compassionate and innovative global citizens.

Leadership News
First semester is flying by but we still have a lot coming up before Christmas break. We are excited to collect
Christmas Shoeboxes again for Operation Christmas Child. We have ordered some of the red and green
shoeboxes which you can pick up at the office. Our group will be volunteering at the end of November at the
packing warehouse in Calgary and we will take all packed shoeboxes with us. We hope you enjoy shopping for
these children as much as we enjoy packing the boxes. There is nothing like a child’s smile! We will also be
hosting our annual food bank drive at the beginning of December. Thank you in advance for your charity and
for supporting us and your community.
Cremona School is proud to host the Senior Girls Volleyball Zones tournament November 17-18. Please dress up
in our school colours ( green and gold) and show your Cougar Pride! Good luck girls!

BAND SOCIETY UPDATE
Calling all quilters, scrap bookers and crafters! As the holiday season quickly approaches would you enjoy a weekend dedicated to working on your projects? The upcoming Quilt and Craft Weekend Band Society Fundrais-er (Nov. 24-26) could be the perfect opportunity for you and a few friends to do just that! Check out the full page advertisement in this newsletter. Please contact Karen at [email protected] or Joanna at [email protected] as soon as possible to reserve your table!
The Grade 7&8 Band and High School Band will combine to play at the School Remembrance Day Ceremony, Nov. 8 and at the Community Remembrance Day Ceremony, Nov. 11. Looking ahead to December, the Christmas Band Concert will be on Dec. 13 and the Elementary Christmas Music Concert will be on Dec. 14
Did you know that the Cremona School Band Society fundraising supports music education not only in Grades 5-12 but also in Grades K-4? We do and the Band Society would like to issue a friendly invitation to all parents/guardians of children in Grades K-4 to attend our meetings. You don't have to "wait" until your child is in Grade 5 to learn how the Band Society supports music education at Cremona School!
If you are able to find time in your schedules, we would greatly appreciate your attendance, input and sharing of ideas for fundraising, trips, camps, concerts and festivals.
Agenda items can be emailed to Karen Olson, President at [email protected] or Hilary Hahn, Vice President at [email protected].
The next Band Society meeting is Nov. 1, 7:00 pm in the Library (enter via the bus doors). Hope to see you there!
Hello!
Global Partners Institute (GPI), a non-profit Japanese student exchange program, is
currently looking for local families to potentially host an exchange student. Our
programs run for a full year—from February to January, or for a school year from
September to June.
The families that we are looking for should be able to accept our students as their own
son or daughter. They are asked to show them a true Canadian experience and show
them as much of our culture and land as possible.
If this sounds like something that you would be interested in, please contact me at
[email protected] and check out our website at Global Partners Institute
Canada where you can also apply online.
Thank you!
