Healthy Living Club Challenge
RACE ACROSS IOWA
Challenge Kick Off: November 1st - June 30, 2018
Clubs take part in the challenge by introducing a variety of healthy living practices during club meetings each month. Completing the challenges earns the clubs "miles" as they race across Iowa throughout all 20 regions of the state. This 1,400 mile route destination sure fulfills the definition of a challenge, but by working together as a team and setting goals to incorporate healthy living practices each month, we hope to see you meet or surpass the final mile by the end of June!
Challenge Areas
Water Consumption - 75 miles
Offer water as the main beverage at club meetings
Tips: How to incorporate water in a fun way
Infuse water naturally by adding fruit, vegetables or herbs
Freeze 100% juice in ice cube trays to add some fun flavors
Fruits & Vegetables - 100 miles
Include a fruit and/or vegetable as a snack choice
Tips: Create opportunities to try new foods or recipes

Tips: Structured activities that encourages movement with all participants

Try yoga as part of your meeting
BONUS Challenges - every couple of months, a new "bonus challenge" will be revealed.
These opportunities will encompass other areas of wellbe-ing...
building healthy relationships
brain health
community engagement with healthy living
Earn Your Miles Each month, your club submits that month's tracker. The club will designate who will do this each month, whether it be an adult leader or a youth leader. The link for the month will be found here on the webpage. Be sure to submit your progress monthly so we can publish results and track it by county and across the state. Don't wait until the end of the challenge to submit your monthly accomplishments, because each monthly tracker is due by the 10th of the following month. (For exam-ple: November tracker is due December 10th, December track-er is due January 10th, etc.)
Recognition The 5 clubs that log the most miles and complete the route by the end of June will be recognized for their accomplishments at the Iowa State Fair.

4-H Volunteer Training – “ 4-H Builds Resilience”
Join 4-H leaders from across Clayton County in an interactive, hands on training that will help volun-teers explore how brain development and personal growth relate to their role as volunteers. By sup-porting youth to build resilience, we are providing opportunities for youth to develop belonging, mas-tery, and independence.
During this training, 4-H leaders will gain an under-standing of resilience and the connection they pro-vide in increasing resilience in youth. In addition, leaders will learn skills that can be applied to pro-mote and create opportunities to build resilience as well as utilize tools to promote growth in youth.
This training is part of the statewide leader training and will be held on Thursday, November 30 at 7:00 pm at the Central State Bank Community
Room in Elkader.
A benefit of participating in the face-to-face volun-teer training is the interaction and sharing with oth-er volunteers. If you are not able to attend the training, an online training option will be available in the spring.
