Heather Gorius, BHA President
Hello!
I hope you and your family are enjoying Fall in the neighborhood.
The BHA had yet another successful House Tour on October 13th! There are many thanks to
go around after this event, since it simply couldn’t be done without the help of many. Thanks to the residents that opened their houses, the House Tour Committee, the volunteer house-sitters, and all neighbors who were able to participate in the neighborhood clean-up the day before. I really enjoyed walking through all of the houses with my family that afternoon. The House Tour showcases what makes our neighborhood special – interesting neighbors and lovely homes. Special thanks to Sue and Dee, co-chairs of the House Tour Committee, for once again putting on a great event.
In place of our November General Meeting, usually the first Wed. of the month, we will have “Shop and Schmooze” the second Wed., Nov. 13th, 7PM at St. Andrew’s Church Hall. The BHA offers you an opportunity to meet and support our local artist-community by featuring their work in this social and retail setting. Enjoy the music and refreshments while interacting with these creative minds and bring home a unique gift for yourself, your home or a loved one.
I hope to see you there!

Curbside composting can come to you for as little as $7 a week. A seal top bucket is provided into which you may put all food waste (including meat & dairy products not usually recommended for yard compost bins). It is collected weekly at a designated location and twice a year you get 40 lbs of compost – which you can use or donate to a local garden, like Halcott Square on Duncan St. Contact Remotion, a locally owned company, 443-291-9598, [email protected] or www.remotioncompost.com.

Tree Planting - Making BH Green
We will begin collecting 2014 dues in December. You can pay either online through the website (www.butchershill.org) or follow the instructions on the form in the newsletter. Also, I will be at the potluck in December to accept cash, check or credit cards for your dues: $10 per person ($6 for seniors). If you haven’t yet paid for 2013, I will be happy to accept that also!
Thanks to the committees and all the volunteers the BHA House Tour and the two Flea Markets were very successful fund raising activities this year. Financial information will be available at the budget meeting early next year. We are proud to be able to provide support to our two K-8 schools and other local non-profits—as well as support Butchers Hill Association activities.

From Your BHA Treasurer
Sat., Nov. 9th, 9AM - Meet at 30 N. Chester St. for demo & coffee, then go forth & plant! Come ready to get dirty and make a difference! We plant rain or shine – unless it pours – then the rain date is Sat., Nov. 16th.
All levels of help needed: able-bodied pick & shovel teams, those who can hand tools to those digging, sweeping, carrying buckets, mulching other trees and taking photos of the event.
We will have a thank-you happy hour at 1PM at the Life of Reilly’s. The Committee will provide finger food and Reilly’s has agreed to extend happy hour pricing for post tree-planting beers!
The locations of the trees are as follows: 30 N. Chester St. 101 N. Chester St. 10 N. Collington St. 2015 E. Lombard St.
The Streetscape Committee has coordinated this planting with TreeBaltimore, the City of Baltimore Forestry Department, Fells Point & Fells Prospect Community Associations to repopulate Baltimore’s tree canopy and enhance our quality of life in Butchers Hill. Thank you to all who have helped or will participate in this effort. If you are not able to join us please consider joining Fells Point on Nov. 2nd at 9AM in front of the Wharf Rat bar.

All the houses were outstanding, all the homeown-ers and house sitters were charming, and all the visi-tors were impressed. Proceeds exceeded expectations, enabling the BHA to continue contributing to local nonprofits and our two K-8 schools. Thanks to all: from the start with Martha Simon’s fountain photography, the rainy day neighborhood clean-up, Barry Glassman’s record ad sales, clearing cool weather and the many volunteers before and during the tour day. Kudos!
