I am 37 years old, a marriedmother of three and havingwaited until my youngestchild began school, Iembarked upon on myformal training in RemedialMassage Therapy. I knew the standards expectedwere extremely high and thetheory work very demanding.Remedial massage therapyconsists of deep tissuemassage with soft tissuemanipulation and can reducemany physical aches andpains in all areas. These problems can be as the
result of sports injuries or thegeneral stresses and strains ofour everyday lives. Given the demands of modernday living, many patients alsobenefit greatly by having arelaxing full body massage, during which any problemscan be identified andaddressed. All ages can benefit fromtreatments, from youngchildren to the elderly.Remedial Massage Therapywas something that I verymuch wanted to be part ofand knew I had found alifelong career that I wouldenjoy having observed myfather, who has had his ownpractice in Northamptonshirefor many years. It was easy to see how muchsatisfaction he experiencedwhen successfully treatingpatients, who often came tohim as a “last resort” when
other treatments had failed. My father and I would havebeen happy to work togetherbut having relocated myfamily to Derbyshire severalyears ago, distance made thisimpossible. Therefore I decided to lookfor suitable premises to beginmy new careerThanks to my supportivehusband and family, I havebeen able to complete thevery extensive training
required and become fullyqualified. My own clinic: “S JChillingworth, RemedialMassage Therapist”(Tel 01332 843339 Mobile:07920 149 286) is nowopened in Duffield and I lookforward very much towelcoming patients both oldand new There is a special openingoffer of 10% discount on allfirst treatments at the clinic.

Some £2,500 was raised for The British HeartFoundation at the Lawrence Moffatt Memorial Ball, held in memory of local Duffield man Lawrence Moffattwho passed away suddenly last year. Ayear on, Lawrence’s stepdaughter Sophie Jardineorganised the black-tie Ball to celebrate his life and raisemuch-needed funds for The British Heart Foundation. Sophie said, “We managed to raise an amazing total of£2,500 for The British Heart Foundation.“This money will hopefully help a few people not to haveto go through what we did, after losing Lawrence.“Ahuge thank you to all the people who supported theevent, either by attending the Ball, buying raffle tickets, orby making a donation.”Sue Moffatt, Lawrence’s widow (pictured above withSophie) added: “The Ball was a fantastic success, withwonderful food and dancing throughout the evening. “Not to mention, the raffle and extravagant auction on thenight, which saw bids of hundreds of pounds!“Aquiet glass of champagne was raised in Lawrence’smemory between myself, Sophie and my son Dominic, and I’m sure he’d be very proud.”The Viceroy in Duffield very kindly sponsored thechampagne reception held on the night, which was agreat help in saving precious funds. A big thank you to The Viceroy for theirgenerous support. If you were unable to attend but would like tomake a donation, please visit . You can alsocontact Sophie on 07813 198997.

2008 proved to be atypically pleasingseason for DuffieldCricket Club, despitethe second teambeing on thereceiving end of areorganisation of theDerbyshire CountyCricket League andthe third teamsuffering relegation. The first teamachieved their aim ofconsolidation inDivision Two withease, and mostpleasing of all did so inspite of season endinginjuries to new signingTom Wilton and vice-captain Adam Short. With opening batsmanWilton now recoveredand raring to go nextseason, all rounder
Short, keeping hiseyes on the first teamwhere he belongs, andoff-spinner batsmanEd Sims hopefullyreturning full time thefirst eleven already hasa stronger look onpaper.Australian professionalBen Evans hasintimated he will bereturning, as will JoBalraj, who enjoyed hisbest season with hisleft arm spin (35wickets at only15apiece) and a battingaverage of over 30.The Jordan brothers, sharpish bowling allrounder Philip, who is
also a useful batsmanand Richard whosenagging medium paceis one of the keystonesof the attack haveanother year’sexperience and withsome extraconcentration to addto his natural bowlingand batting ability MarkAntill should flourishfurther.I understand that someother quality playershave expressed aninterest in joining theClub, impressed withthe spirit at Duffieldand sensing ourambition to do evenbetter than last season2008 also saw theclub’s youth systemflourish, most notablyproducing two players
of real promise for thefuture who played keyroles in the first team inJack Clarke and JonoClare. In addition to thosetwo, the second andthird teams bothbenefited enormouslyfrom contributions fromyouth players andthose responsible forcoaching at the clubcan feel immenselyproud that their effortsare beginning to bearfruit.Duffield Cricket Clubis certainly one with abright future, and witha good deal of hardwork there is noreason why 2009 can’tbe even better.Should be an interest-ing AGM this month.
