You can pick up a shopping list in the back of church on the bulletin board as well as aflyer to share with your own family, friends, and neighbors. In general, small toys, schoolsupplies, stuffed animals, hygiene products, caps, t-shirts, sunglasses, candy (please double

bag), toy jewelry, & hair clips make great gifts.

Please do not include used or damaged items, war-related items, chocolate or food, out-of-date candy, liquids or lotions, medications or vitamins, breakable items or aerosol cans.

Thanks so much for being a part of such a wonderful ministry to children! We lookforward to seeing how the Lord multiplies our efforts.

We are still collecting shoeboxes for OperationChristmas Child. These will be shipped by

trucks, planes, trains, ships, and even camels toget to their destinations. Our last day to collect

BLESSED BY HISHILL BIBLE

COLLEGESTUDENTS

It was a full house at TheOpen Door on Sunday, September30th as the His Hill Bible Collegestudents joined us for worship. HisHill is a ministry of TorchbearersInternational and is located in theHill Country of central Texas, justoutside the small town of

Comfort, 40 minutes from SanAntonio. The campus is situatedon 220 acres of rolling hills.

The students that came with

His Hill represented at least sixdifferent countries with themajority of them being Canadian.The young men were housed hereat church for the week, while theladies were placed in several hosthomes within our church.Theywere obviously taken very goodcare of as they were ready to get towork every morning with a

servants heart and a contagious,fresh energy.

During their stay, they wereable to accomplish so many things.The list of jobs they completed is

quite impressive: organized andinventoried closets, painted

second coats over the nurserymurals, pressure-washed, scrapedand repainted the exterior privacywall, removed brush from thefence line in the back of ourproperty, poured 40 bumpers forthe new parking lot, cleaned outthe storage containers, formedand poured footing around thestudent building, finished the newdriveway entrance, formed andpoured a new sidewalk, held two

VBS outreaches to Ile de Cannes,tutored daily at A Heart for

Children, and prepared flyers for

Operation Christmas Child andhanded them out to thesurrounding neighborhoods.Certainly, there was much moreaccomplished both in and throughthese students than even this list.Even after all that work, they stillfound time to enjoy the Cajunculture of Acadiana. We are so

A FALL FEAST- THE OCTOBER POTLUCK LUNCH

Sunday, September 29thoffered The Open Door a chanceto come together and enjoyfellowship during a great lunch,

once again. We were also able toget to know the His Hill studentsthat spent the week here for thesole purpose of blessing ourchurch. These students took thechildren upstairs after lunch andsupervised games that were set upfor them to play so that parentscould visit. The childrenparticipated in sack races,Treasure-in-a-Haystack, Face-Painting, Gourd Bowling, and

Ring-Around-A-Pumpkin. Often,there were prizes to be found or atreat given for playing, such aspopcorn balls or small toys.

Our gathering also gave us theopportunity to present PastorBrooks with an I-pad, a gift of

appreciation for his selfless serviceto the body of Christ at The OpenDoor. This gift was our way ofkicking offOctober as Pastor

Appreciation Month. If youmissed the opportunity to blessPastor Sam with a token ofappreciation or a thank you note,its never too late to say thanks inwhatever way you choose.

The potluck lunch could neverhave been so successful if it wasntfor everyone that contributed tothe meal by bringing a side dish.Thanks to everyone who came andto those who brought food tomake it a wonderful lunch. If youwere not able to attend, keep youreye out for the next one in thespring....Youll want to be there.

A NOTE OF THANKS FROM THE HERNANDEZ FAMILY:

As we wait expectantly for our baby girl, Esther, there have been manyplans and preparations to be made for our first daughter. Lots of changes aretaking place as we get ready for all the pink frills that raising a girl brings about,as well as for going from a large family to a larger family. Saturday, October 13thwas a day of tremendous blessing for our family as people filled our home toaccomplish things we could not have done on our own. Rooms were painted,our home cleaned inside and out, others brought food for those who wereworking, and our attic space was converted to a bedroom, bathroom, closet,and study for our baby girl to have a place to call her own. All of this was

accomplished in one day. We are so grateful and humbled for everyone whogave their Saturday to come and serve our family. It was so incredible to see thehour by hour transformation that occurred as everyone came together with alltheir talents and tools to make this dream of ours come true. Thanks toeveryone who helped to make this day a reality for our family. It has been awonderful testimony to our friends and family of what the body of Christ is allabout.

Our goal is 500 boxes,which is quite a challenge.Please participate by buying shoeboxes and filling them with giftitems for children. All the neededinformation is on the bulletin

board at the back of the church,or in the October E-news letter onThe Open Door website. This is agreat opportunity to get the wholefamily involved and especially forchildren to have the joy ofparticipating in giving to others.It costs $7.00 to mail each box toits destination around the worldand the church pays this cost. Itwould be an additional benefitand help if you would also donatethe $7.00 for each of the boxesyou provide, but it is not required.

You can also part ic ipate byproviding cash for boxes ands u p p l i e s b y m a k i n g acontribution to OCC. Makechecks payable to THE OPENDOOR, with OCC in the memosection. Wednesday, NOVEMBER7th is the deadline for allOperation Christmas Child boxes

Finally, we are movinginto the last weeks of rehearsalfor the Hallelujah Chorus and ourpreparation for our sponsor night

at Acadian Village Festival ofLights. If you have not signed upor been contacted by the leaderin the area you volunteered,please contact us at the churchand we will get you in touch withthe person leading your area ofservice. This is our biggestoutreach to the local area and wewill need everybodys help tomake it a successful night ofservice. If you are planning tovisit others during the holidayseason, please leave after ournight of service which is FRIDAY,DECEMBER 21st. You wont wantto miss this opportunity ofservice and fellowship. If youknow of anyone who would enjoysinging in the Hallelujah Chorus,invite them to join us. All voiceswill be appreciated.

One of the joys of being abeliever is getting to participatein such activities as OCC andAcadian Village. Giving is suchan important part of the believerslife. When we give freely andcheerfully, we actually receive somuch more in return. The samecan be said for our relationships.They are the fabric of our lives inso many ways. It has been saidthat life is all about relationships;our relationship with the Lord,our relationship with family, withothers, even with those we justinteract with momentarily at achance encounter. All tellsomething about who we are. Aswe have been studying about themarriage relationship I would askthat you consider this; does yourmarriage reflect Christ and Hischurch? Is it a testimony of whatHe can do? Are you satisfied andcontent that you are experiencingall He has for you? If yes, giveHim the glory and rejoice in whatHe has done. If not, give Him an

opportunity to work in you to seewhat He can do. You will bethankful that you did.

40 DAYS OF PRAYER FOR OUR NATION

! Beginning on September 28th andthrough November 6th, election day, we are

asking you to join us in a battle on our knees

along with many churches across America. As

we all know, a very important election will betaking place-one that will determine what kind

of country we will live in in the days to come.

At times, the state of our nation can be

disturbing and outright frightening apart from

Christ. However, in Him we can trust. It is the

Lord our God that raises up and brings down

rulers. We see this all throughout the Old

Testament. Nothing escapes His sovereign

hand. His Word is our very life, our comfort,

and our direction.1 Timothy 2-1-3 says"The

first thing I want you to do is pray. Pray every

way you know how, for everyone you know.Pray especially for rulers and their

governments to rule well so we can be quietly

about our business of living simply, in humble

contemplation. This is the way our Savior God

wants us to live." We have very clear

instruction here. We are also taught 2

Chronicles 7:14,If My people who are called by

My name will humble themselves, and pray

and seek My face, and turn from their wicked

ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will

forgive their sin and heal their land. This is

clearly directed to Gods people. And so, as we

humble ourselves and seek His face, lets do so

with hearts prepared to receive conviction and

ready to turn from any wicked ways we may

be bent towards. Lets not bury our heads in

denial or shame,

rather repent and

walk in freedomthrough Christ who

strengthens us to do so.

And as we pray, lets

not forget Ephesians

6:12 For our struggle is

not against flesh and

blood, but against the rulers, against the

authorities, against the powers of this dark

world and against the spiritual forces of evil in

the heavenly realms. For more information on
