Notre Dame is one of the oldest cathedrals in the Gothic style. It is located on Cité’s Island, in Paris (France). At first it was a Romanesque church and in the in 1163, it was converted into a Gothic cathedral. This restoration lasted approximately two centuries, so it was finished in 1345.
INTRODUCTION
As we know, this style is mainly characterized by its large windows, its height, the thick walls, the buttresses and pointed arches. The plant of the cathedral have the form of a Roman cross because it came from a church of the Roman character.
CHARACTERISTICS
The front has two large towers of 69 meters each one. The cathedral is divided into 5 naves and it has 113 windows! The gargoyles are one of the most representative symbols of this monument. They are made of stone or wood. The gargoyles have monstrous heads and they give a touch of humor to the monument.
