Shout outs

This the space where we sound the horn for outstand-ing perfor-mances. .

This week’s shout out goes to

SJDC employees who helped prepare the old caf-eteria for the COVID vac-cination clinic. Staff from Purchasing and HR are almost always involved in events like this. For this one, we want to make special mention of the

efforts of Danny Smith, Darrell Evans, and David Montoya and Larry Mora from Purchasing, and Denise Patrick from HR.

You are all heroes!

SJDC Vaccine Clinic draws grateful recipients

For one day in late April, the “old cafeteria” in the Second Judicial District

Courthouse was converted into a COVID-19 vaccination clinic. Both court em-

ployees and members of the public passed through to get their first dose of

the Moderna or Johnson & Johnson vaccines.

A second clinic is scheduled for Friday, May 28. On that day, second doses will

be administered to those who need them; first doses also will be available for

anyone who hasn’t received one by then. Follow up appointments will be

made for anyone needing a second dose after that clinic.

Everyone is welcome at the upcoming clinic as well—court employees, their

families, friends and members of the public.

SJDC CEO Katina Watson coordinated these clinics following a conversation

with Family Court Judge Gerard Lavelle.

“I was merely a conduit between Katina and this group of medical profession-

als who have been traveling across the state of New Mexico vaccinating peo-

ple,” Judge Lavelle said. For the rest of the story, click here.

The volunteers who staffed the court’s April vaccination clinic are Pharmacist and group leader Uri Bassan, left front, Dr. Cathy Drake, right front, Dr. Steve Pilon, in blue short-sleeve shirt, Beth Born , center in light-colored shirt, Dr. Ruth O’Keefe, towards the right in the back row and Kim Lehrol.

We have lots of prize winners here

2

All SJDC employees vaccinated at the April clinic qualified for a drawing in which two $50 gift cards—one

from Kohls and one from Amazon — would be awarded. Presiding Children’s Court Judge Marie Ward gener-

ously donated the cards. Well, we have our gift card winners. They are Sierra Dunn and Margaret Chopas,

both from the Court Reporters and Monitors Division. Congrats to both of you for getting vaccinated and

winning the gifts cards. You can pick up your prizes in the Human Resources office on the third floor.

Speaking of big winners, Jonathan Woodside from the Judi-

cial Supervision and Diversion Program won the Grande Prize

— the Fitbit—in drawing among those who finished the SJDC

5k Challenge. See Jonathan, at right, with Court CEO Katina

Watson in what was a very brief, socially distant award cere-

mony. Other prize winners from that drawing were:

• Jamie Grogan, also from Judicial Supervision and Diver-

sion, who received a set of resistance bands.

• Dragica “Dora” Bozovic , who also won a set of resistance

bands.

• Tiffany Gurule from Fiscal Services, who won a set of walking weights.

• Sara Gallegos from IT, who scored a set of earbuds.

A hearty congratulations to these prize winners and to everyone who participated in the challenge. For any-

one looking for a different type of fitness routine, here is a friendly reminder that May is National Bike

Month. The City of Albuquerque is participating with a Bike to Wherever Challenge kicking off next Friday

May 21. This challenge is starting on what used to be called Bike to Work Day. Since not everyone who bikes

necessarily wants to bike work, you now can bike anywhere. You can find details of this challenge, which

includes lots of great prizes here.

Final thoughts for this week

Our final thoughts this week are birthday wishes to SJDC

employees who were born in the month of May.

All the best to those folks whose names appear on the

following pages.

One more ‘why I got vaccinated’ video

Many of our colleagues have shared video messages outlining their reasons for getting vaccinated against

COVID-19 over the past couple of weeks. We saved the message from Court Clinician Anthony Baca for last,

and when you see it, we think you will understand why. View Anthony’s message here.
