Reflection for the weekend of the 20th & 21st October 2018

Only Love Resolves Difficulties Children are hard work. When we were children, we were hard work. Sometimes, back home I see some of my staff who come to work with rings under their eyes. They have a one-or-two month-old baby. And I ask them. “Didn’t you get any sleep?” And they say, “No, the baby cried all night.” In families, there are difficulties , but those difficulties are resolved by love. Hatred doesn’t resolve any difficulty. Divided hearts do not resolve difficulties. Only love is capable of resolving difficulties. Love is a celebration, love is joy, love is perseverance. Pope Francis, Philadelphia, Sept. 26, 2015. Mother Teresa once said, “ I have found the paradox, that if you love until it hurts, there can be no more hurt, only more love.” There may be no more hurt but there is still more work, as Mother Teresa certainly knew well! Newborn babies especially test many parents this way. As hard as it is to function without sleep, parents do it out of love for their children. Sometimes we get hurt in our families because we think family members are trying to hurt us and don’t’ care how they make our lives difficult. But let’s take a lesson from newborn babies: that usually, it’s just how they are-they don’t know any better, they hurt us by accident or because of their own weakness. We can learn to resent them less when we understand this. We have to stay awake; and work, but that work brings us more– and greater –love. This is brought to you by the Diocesan Pastoral Council

All Souls Day Graveside Blessings On Friday 2nd November in Mount Carmel Graveyard after 8.00am Mass, Priests Graveyard after 10.00am Mass, St. Stephen’s Graveyard at 11.00am. & St. Mary’s Graveyard at 11.015am.

The Hook of Faith: This Week’s Content Check out the latest resources for this week at www.hookoffaith.com. This week features a homily for this 28th Sunday of Ordinary Time where Jesus encounters the rich young man and invites him leave his wealth behind and follow him. Our interview this week is with Mr. John Cleary who worked as a missionary in South America in the 1970’s who reflects on the significance of this Sunday’s canaoni-zation of Oscar Romero, Pope Paul VI and beatification of three Argentinian martyrs who were killed during the dirty war in 1976. There is a feature on St. Teresa of Avila who feast is next Monday including her best known quotes. There is a feature to mark the Ferns Diocesan Pilgrimage to Fatima and family and finally an inspiring video by Jean Vanier on the 10 rules for life.
