Activity: outrigger canoe racing event

Mariners are advised that an outrigger canoe racing event will be conducted in the vicinity of Pioneer Bay, from Airlie Beach north east around Pioneer Rock and returning to Pioneer Bay between 0500 hours and 1700 hours on Saturday, 26 February 2011.

Mariners are advised to use caution in the vicinity.

Maritime Safety Queensland Queensland Notices to Mariners 189 (Temporary) of 2011

Outside pilotage areas Locality: Rattlesnake Island, Halifax Bay

Activity: live firing range and flare shoot

Mariners are advised that military units will be conducting live firing and flare shooting activities on Tuesday, 8 March 2011. Hand held flares (red and orange smoke) and para flares (red) will be used.

The active area is a circle of 4.8 NM with the radius centred on latitude 19° 02.10' S, longitude 146° 36.38' E and not exceeding a height of 20000 feet above sea level.

The firing point is at latitude 19° 02.27' S, longitude 146° 36.43' E. The direction of fire will be 305° (T) from the firing point. A range safety radius of 5 NM is to be established and monitored by radar and visual.

Mariners are warned to keep well clear of this area throughout the above times.

Mariners are advised that during the daylight hours from Friday, 25 to Saturday, 26 February 2011, the barge "Megamia", will be deploying reef balls in an area to the east of Coochiemudlo Island, as part of an artificial reef program.

The artificial reef area is bounded by the following positions:

Gladstone pilotage area Locality: Golding channel, boyne cutting

Activity: recovery of beacon stub

Mariners are advised that the tug "AR Ford" and barge "Sheerlegs" will be conducting beacon recovery operations in the Boyne Cutting in the vicinity of S14 beacon.

The work is due to commence Saturday, 26 February 2011 and will be completed by Wednesday, 02 March 2011. The tug and barge will operate during the day and night and will display appropriate shapes, flags and lights at all times. The tug will maintain a listening watch on VHF channel 13 and 16 throughout the operation.

Mariners are requested to navigate with caution in the area and pass the works at a suitable distance, at slow speed, no wash or power wave.

Cairns pilotage area Locality: Mission Bay

Activity: search and rescue (SAR Drop) exercises Mariners are advised that on Tuesday, 1 March 2011 between 0930 hours and 1300 hours, AeroRescue will be conducting a Search and Rescue supply dropping exercise in the Mission Bay, Cape Grafton area, in approximate position latitude 16° 52.5' S, longitude 145° 54.0' E.

Air operations will be conducted within a five nautical mile radius of the above position from a height of fifteen hundred feet down to two hundred feet above mean sea level.

A training beacon utilising 121.4 frequency will be used periodically.

Mariners advised to navigate with caution.

Brisbane pilotage area Locality: Moreton Bay, STS 1 Anchorage E

Activity: ship to ship LPG transfer

Mariners are advised that gas carriers will be involved with ship to ship transfer operations of LPG from the vessel "Kikyo".

The operation will be conducted in Moreton Bay at the STS 1 anchorage, approximate position latitude 27° 17.25' S, longitude 153° 16.5' E, which equates to a distance of 3.85 nautical miles on a bearing of 067° T, from the east entrance beacon.

The multiple transfer operations are scheduled to commence Monday, 28 February 2011 and are expected to continue until 30 April 2011.

During the transfer operations all other vessels are excluded from entering within one nautical mile radius of the transfer operation.
