buildings from Carrington House to Brooklyn’s Down South, the gazebo, City Hall, Library, building on Railroad St., Annex building and restrooms. In addition, the Main Street Advisory Board recommends wrapping the large oaks from San Antonio St. to FM 2770 and leaving those up year round; T. Gray seconded; all approve; motion carries.
F.5. A committee will be formed from board members to review the Texas Downtown Association (TDA) President's Awards and make recommendations to the Advisory Board about nominations at the June 2017 meeting. Committee members include Jessica Burke and Julie Renfro thus far.

PRESIDENT’S AWARDS PROGRAM CATEGORIES
DESIGN AWARDS: Recognizes excellence in design in downtown and commercial districts.
Eligibility: Business or building must be located in a downtown or commercial district. The
project must have been completed between July 1, 2015 and June 30, 2017.
Best Commercial Interior: Recognizes excellence in merchandising, customer orientation,
and/or business functionality in an office or retail setting.
Please answer the following questions:
1. How does the interior appeal to the customer’s experience in the store, as well as to the
customer’s senses, such as sight, touch, smell and sound?
2. Were there any innovations the business owner has employed or unique solutions to
design problems encountered with the interior?
3. How does the project impact the community and contribute to revitalization of
downtown or the commercial district?
Best Renovation/Rehabilitation: Recognizes excellence in rehabilitation (i.e., renovation or
remodeling) of interior or exterior of an existing building. Rehabilitation is the process of
returning a property to a state of utility, through repair or alteration, while preserving those
portions and features of the property that are significant to its historic, architectural, and
cultural values. Rehabilitation focuses on the historic materials and features, finishes, spaces,
and spatial relationships that give a property its historic character. The building may be
historic (over 50 years old) or non-historic.

2. What contemporary additions and alterations were made to the building?
3. Were any green or sustainable building practices included?

Best Restoration: Recognizes excellence in restoration of interior or exterior of an existing
building. Rather than maintaining and preserving a building as it has evolved over time, the
expressed goal of restoration is to make the building appear as it did at a particular—and
most significant—time in its history. Restoration focuses on the retention of materials from the
most significant time in a property's history, while permitting the removal of materials from
other periods.

developed, implemented and/or held between July 1, 2015 and June 30, 2017.
Best Marketing Program: Recognizes excellence in marketing of downtown or commercial
districts. Successful entries show measurable results were met as a result of comprehensive use
of marketing tools including, but not limited to print, electronic media, multi-media, advertising
campaigns, web sites and cooperative partnerships to promote downtown or the commercial
district.

are no divisions based on population.

President’s Awards Program Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Presidents Awards Program?
The program was developed by the Texas Downtown Association in 1999 as a way to recognize
outstanding projects, places and people that contribute to downtowns across the state.
Who can submit a nomination?
Anyone! There is a TDA member fee and a non-member fee.
How do I submit a nomination?
All nominations must be submitted via our online system
Step 1: Register your nomination. If you are submitting more than one project, place or person then
you'll need to complete a form for each nomination. You can pay by credit card or generate an
invoice for payment with check. Payment must be received by the deadline.
Step 2: Check your email. Our system will automatically send you an email for each entry you
register. This message will include a link to the application that you must be completed.
Step 3: Use the link from the email to access the application form, provide the information
requested, and upload images. Don't worry - you can save your application and reopen later if you
need to revisit at a later time.
Step 4: Review and submit your nomination by the deadline posted on our website.
What is the cost to submit an entry?
$75.00 – TDA members
$150.00 – Non-members
Who selects the winners?
The TDA Awards Committee selects judges who are experts in marketing, renovation, preservation,
and Texas communities. Judges are provided with copies of all nominations prior to the judging and
meet in person in Austin in early September to view images of projects submitted, discuss nominations
and select finalists and winners.

When are finalists announced?
Finalists are announced in September. TDA staff provide finalists with press releases to share with local
media outlets and notify finalists’ elected officials of the honor. TDA also promotes finalists via social
media, on the TDA website and with press releases to the media.
When are winners announced?
Winners are announced at the President’s Awards Gala, held in conjunction with the Texas
Downtown Conference.
What do winners receive?

Media recognition – TDA shares information about winners with media outlets and provides
winners with press releases to share with local & regional media.

Background/HistoryOn April 8, the City of Buda Main Street Advisory Board launched a survey togain input from the community in an effort to the lay the foundation for a vibrantdowntown and begin a work plan strategy to revitalize downtown in the areas ofdesign, promotion, events, organization and economic vitality.
The survey was available online through Friday, May 12 at downtownbuda.comand was shared on Facebook, Twitter and on NextDoor. In addition, printedcopies were distributed to the Onion Creek Senior Center and information wascollected at the Farmer's Market, Library Spring Fling event and the Lion's ClubWiener Dog Races.A total of 382 survey responses were collected with the majority (92%) of the responses coming from the 78610 zip code. There was arepresentation from each of the age groups with survey respondents from underthe age of 18 through over 65 with the majority of survey respondents falling inthe 25-34 (27%) and the 35-44 (38%) age range. Survey respondents wereprimarily female (74%), followed by male (23%) and a remainder that preferrednot to say. The respondents primarily came from households of 2 or more. 38%of respondents work from Austin, followed by 33% that primarily work from/homeor stay at home and 17% that work in Buda.The majority of this audience uses Facebook (93%) on a regular basis andcurrently receives their information from Facebook (50%), Nextdoor (12%),Local publications (11%) and Word of Mouth (10%).
