Principal’s Message— Voting time is here! Help decide the

direction of your child’s school district. In the last local bond measure election, only 37 % of votes were cast by voters under the age of 50. We need our parents’ input. Get informed about Measure A – Clovis Unified’s facilities bond that would provide updates to old schools and construction of new schools to ease overcrowding – and vote by Nov. 3. National Chocolate Day 6th grade celebrated by going on a virtual field trip to a chocolate adventure to learn all about chocolate while enjoying their favorite choco-late snack.

Measure A on the November Ballot—FACT: In this election, Clovis Unified has a need-ed facility bond on the ballot that DOES NOT RAISE TAX RATES and allows for HEALTH & SAFETY UPGRADES at every school; MAINTENANCE & UPDATES of ag-

Positivity Project—

Week 8–- Perspective

Celebrations

Around the World Diwali is India’s biggest and most im-

portant holiday. It is celebrated for 5 days

in October or November each year. Di-

wali means “rows of lighted lamps.”

Houses all over India twinkle with tiny

lights from clay lamps called diye. They

often call the celebration the festival of

lights. Homes are cleaned and windows

are opened in the hope that Lakshmi, the

goddess of wealth, will visit. During Diwa-

li, gifts are exchanged and feast are pre-

pared. Diwali is as important to Hindus

as Christmas is to the Christians. Diwali

marks the beginning of a new financial

year for businessmen. Old accounts are

settled and new ones are opened.

Filipino American History Month— FAHM is celebrated in the United

States during the month of Octo-

ber. October was chosen to cele-

brate the month to commemorate

the arrival of the first Filipinos

who landed in what is now Morro

Bay, California on October 18,

1587. It is also the birth month of

Filipino American labor leader

Larry Itliong. In California and

Hawaii, where many Filipino

Americans reside, Filipino Ameri-

can History Month is widely cele-

brated. 2006 was a pivotal; year as

it marked the centennial celebra-

tion of Filipino migration to the

United States.

What is Title 1? Title 1 is a federal program

that provides categorical funds to schools with

more than 50% of the student population who

qualifies for free/reduced lunch. The purpose of

the funds is to ensure that all children have a

fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain

a high-quality education and reach proficiency

on state content standards and assessments. All

CUSD schools that are Title 1 are School-Wide

Programs. This is a comprehensive reform strate-

gy designed to upgrade the entire educational

program at Mountain View. ALL students benefit

from Title 1 services, not just those that qualify

for free/reduced lunch.

What are categorical funds? These are

funds allocated based on the number of students

enrolled at MV. Title I funds are used for the

purpose of assisting students in mastering stand-

ards. Funds are also used to assist our parent

community with parent involvement and en-

gagement opportunities.
