Note: Launch of 2 year energy management programmeIMI-Kolkata is planning to launch a two year Executive Post Graduate Diploma in Energy Management Programme designed for enhancement of executive students for careers in energy sector. Approval Granted: AICTE approval has already been granted for launching the programme.Programme Structure: The first year consists of three trimesters and the second year consists of five trimesters. The final trimester (Trimester VIII) includes Project courses / Dissertation, equivalent to six course credit. Classes shall be organized on weekends. There shall be 18 courses in the first year and 18 courses in the second year i.e. 36 courses in 2 years.Class size and composition: The programme is targeted towards executive students who want to develop careers in energy sector. We are targeting a class size of 30 students which seem to be a feasible size as we have plans to approach all the large firms in this sector.Expected intangible benefits: Increasing brand image of IMI Kolkata and networking with companies in the energy space. This may also result in benefits for AIPM in terms of joint projects and training opportunities.Programme Launch & Special Topics: The programme is expected to be launched from January 1, 2014 as discussed with Mr. Gautam Ray, ED (HR&Admin), CESC Ltd. Also some special topics as suggested shall be included in the programem: a) Managing Technology & Technical Efficiency b) Regulatory, Policy& tariff Setting in Energy Sector c) Sector Structure and Evolution d) Resource Management & Resource Acquisition e) Renewable Energy in the Energy Sector.Programme Marketing: The programme shall be marketed by IMI Kolkata with help from Mr. Gautam Ray, ED (HR&Admin) in clooboration with AIPM. CESCs long presence, deep expertise and wide reach would effectively help in marketing the programme.

Executive PostGraduateDiploma in Energy Management1. The ProgrammeIMI-Kolkatas two year Executive Post Graduate Diploma in Energy Management is designed for enhancement of executive students for careers in energy sector. The program equips executive students with strong conceptual, functional and operational skills to manage energy sector business in an integrated manner. The emphasis is on developing a holistic manager with a vision to take on the challenges of the future.2. Program ObjectiveThe program has been offered with the following objectives. To build awareness about the socio-economic environment, both domestic & international and its implications for businesses To hone analytical and problem solving skills using modern day managerial tools to enhance decision making capabilities in general and energy sector in particular. To impart state-of-art skills and knowledge in functional areas of management with the objective of preparing students for cross-functional positions in the energy sector companies and industry. To develop leadership qualities integrated with strong values and positive attitude to take the organizations to a higher level and assume bigger responsibilities3. Program DurationIMI-Kolkata follows the trimester system with the academic calendar beginning in January 2014. Each term being 13 weeks duration.The first year consists of three trimesters and the second year consists of three trimesters. The final trimester (Trimester VIII) includes Project courses / Dissertation, equivalent to six course credit.4. Eligibility for AdmissionTo be eligible for admission to the EPGDEM Program, the participants must possess a Bachelors degree or equivalent, with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks or equivalent in any discipline, recognized by the Association of Indian Universities for admission to post-graduate programs. The bachelors degree or equivalent qualification obtained by the candidate must entail a minimum of three years education after completing higher secondary schooling under the 10+2 system or equivalent. The candidate should have a minimum of 2 years work experience.

5. CurriculumThe course for the EPGDEM program is spread over seven terms, each term being of 13 weeks. The first three terms are essentially devoted to core courses, across different areas of management. These are aimed at providing the executive students the conceptual understanding of the functional areas. 6. PedagogyThe Pedagogy would be a combination of lectures, case discussions, presentations, assignments and project work. The primary emphasis would be on interactive and participative methods of learning. Faculty for the program is primarily in house from IMI-Kolkata but may also include visiting faculty. Guest lectures from industry practitioners are also organized to expose students to the current business environment.7. Schedule of classesClasses for the EPGDEM program would be held on Saturdays from 2:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. and on Sundays from 9:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. to suit the requirements of the programs. Attendance in all classes is compulsory. Classes shall tentatively begin, from the 1st week of January 2014.Also, classes on weekdays are being explored for candidates on nomination basis.8. EvaluationEmphasis is laid on continuous evaluation of an executive students performance through the six terms, culminating in a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) score, over a 10 point scale, being awarded.9.
