The following Academic policies are found in the Student-Parent Handbook:

The final mark for the year entered on a student’s permanent record is called the record mark. The record mark is the average of the grades received in the four regular marking periods. The passing grade is 70% for all subjects.

At the end of an academic year, a student who fails 3 units in the record marks must withdraw immediately from the school.

At the end of an academic year, a student who fails fewer than 3 units in the record marks will be readmitted to the school only upon successful completion in summer school of all failed units. Students who fail fall semester courses should be aware that the only opportunity to make up these courses is in the summer. Failed elective courses cannot be dropped from a student’s record.

Regents examinations are not final examinations and are not computed in the record mark for a course. New York State requires students to pass certain Regents examinations to graduate with a Regents diploma, and to pass additional Regents examinations to receive an advanced Regents diploma. The passing grade for all New York State Regents exams is 65%. For more details, see the section on graduation in the Student-Parent Handbook. All students must take the Regents exams in June of the school year when they conclude the indicated courses, including honors or AP sections of these courses. Students who do not take the required Regents test will be assigned a failing record mark in the course. The Principal has sole discretion to grant an exception to this policy for good cause, such as a serious illness documented by a doctor’s note. Students who fail a Regents examination required for graduation must retake that examination the next time it is offered in New York State, including August and January administration of such tests. In past years, Foreign Language, Chemistry, Algebra 2/ Trigonometry and Physics exams have not been offered during the summer New York State regents testing period.

Students should bring several pens and sharpened #2 pencils with erasers to each test. They must also bring a ruler and the prescribed calculator to each math or science exam.

Students who have both a morning and afternoon Regents exam should bring lunch. The school cafeteria will be open prior to each exam.

Students will not be permitted to leave the building between exams.

Testing dates & Times

Consider the following tips about studying and preparing for your Regents exams:

Location, location, location...If you’re serious about getting work done, find a place that’s relatively free of distractions.

Make It a Habit: Work Every Day Spend time on your studies each and every day, and you can stay on top of your courses and still have time for fun.

Help Exists! Seek It Out and Improve Your Grades Whether you’re a 90’s student or a 70’s student, you can strengthen your learning skills. Get to know your teachers and, if needed, check with the peer tutoring program or go to review classes.

Get Energized - Eat, Exercise, SleepNot understanding? Trouble remembering? Comprehension and memory are affected by stress and fatigue. When you’re hungry, tense, or tired your brain can’t function at its full potential. It’s especially crucial to eat well, exercise, and get adequate sleep during exam periods.

Do Something (Anything!) to Remember Key InformationCapture your understanding of course material in an active way. Generate examples, make summary notes, identify key words, highlight notebooks, or add margin notes. Be creative and interested, and you’re more likely to be awesome at test time.

Think You’ll Remember Key Points? Prove It.No matter how well you understand something, without practice and study, some forgetting will occur. Make sure that you can recall important information from memory. Self-test before an exam by recalling information without looking at notes or textbooks and by doing practice exams if available.

Be Test SmartDon’t lose points because of test-taking errors such as misreading a question or running out of time. Think through specific strategies to tackle different types of tests (e.g., multiple-choice). Also, carefully read instructions, budget time and do less difficult questions first to build confidence.

Junior Prom: Saturday, May 17th

Information regarding prom rules and procedures will be sent home to all parents with sons and/or daughters attending these events. Parents should watch for this information. It will be mailed out prior to the prom. This information can also be found on the school website in the News section.

Molloy Proms


An awards ceremony will take place the evening of Thursday, May 22st at 7pm to recognize the many achievements of our individual athletes and teams. Invitations will be distributed through our student athletes.

Athletic Awards night

The school office at Molloy will be open from 8am-3pm until Fri., June 27th. During July and the first weeks of August our normal office hours will be suspended. Messages will be checked on a regular basis. The office will reopen in mid-August with hours 8am-2pm. Parents and students should keep this vacation schedule in mind and request any needed records accordingly.

On June 11th at 7:00pm Molloy will be honoring students who have achieved academic honors for the 2013-14 school year. Students who have earned a 95% average or better will be receiving an invitation to the ceremony during the week of May 12th. Juniors who have met all the requirements for membership in the National Honor Society will be inducted into the NHS as part of the ceremony. Congratulations to all these deserving and hard-working students.

Beginning June 16th, boys are not required to wear a tie to school because of the warm weather that usually occurs during final exams. All other aspects of the dress code remain unchanged.

Uniforms

Yearbook distribution Yearbooks will be distributed during exams to the Freshmen, Sophomores and Juniors. Students who have any outstanding obligations, including tuition, textbook returns, athletic uniforms and the like, will not receive a yearbook until all obligations are satisfied.

Senior PortraitsThe Junior class will have their Senior Yearbook portraits taken after taking their Regents exams. Photos are taken in the Jack Curran Gym by appointment with Delmar Studios. Parents of students in Junior year will be receiving a mailing directly from Delmar Studios regarding this. Should you have any questions please call Delmar directly: 631-736-2205

The passing grade for all subjects is 70%. Any student who fails a course for the year will be notified by phone and by mail on or about June 20th regarding summer school requirements. The NY State Regents exam passing grade is 65%. Molloy students who must re-take a Regents Exam in the summer will do so at Molloy on August 13th or 14th. Students must register at Molloy for each summer Regents; the re-take fee is $65.00 per exam. The school suggests that students study daily and consider registering for a summer school to keep subject skills fresh in preparation for the re-take. There are no August retakes available in NY State for Chemistry, Physics, and Algebra 2/ Trigonometry. All students who fail a Regents will receive an information packet and form in the mail for summer school registration.

The AMHS Directory has recently approved the school budget for 2014-2015 and has determined that the tuition for next year will be $8,080 plus the $200 re-registration fee. There also will be a graduation fee for seniors of $100 as well as an AP Exam fee of $89 per course. This reflects the inflationary changes in wages, benefits, utilities and other operating expenses of the school. Billing will be coming from our finance office directly to all families. The re-registration billing will be posted to all familes on June 15th. This re-registration fee is due to Molloy by July 1st. The 1st tuition payment for the 2014-2015 school year will be due on Aug. 1st.

Tuition

All student athletes need to have updated physicals to try out or be eligible to participate in any sport in the fall. On June 4th, Dr. Peter Harvey and his staff from Jamaica Hospital will be at the school to give sports physical examinations to our athletes. There is no cost for this after school service. Pick up consent forms at the nurse’s office.

All students who have a history of a medical condition, e.g. (diabetes, seizure disorder, asthma, food or insect bite allergies or any other condition that requires them to take medications while in school, including over the counter medicine) must have a new medication release form filled out by their MD each new school year.

Look for paper work that is mailed home in June for your convenience to be filled out during the summer months and returned by the first day of school. Any questions contact Mrs. K. Forgione, RN. x123.

Make good use of your time. Explore your passions and interests. Lend a hand by doing community service. Find an internship or be involved in a summer program. Get a paying job that will give you real world experience.

The Common Application for college admission is available August 1st. It is a good idea to become familiar with the Common Application before the fall. Take a look at the essay questions and begin to think through which essay you would like to write. You can begin a rough draft. You can find the Common Application at www.commonapp.org A Student Profile Sheet will be sent through Naviance sometime in July. Please take the time to fill it out, make three copies, and bring it with you when you return to school in September. The profile sheet will need to be given to teachers/counselors to write your letters of recommendation.

Make a preliminary list of colleges you are interested in applying to. Check the websites of all the colleges you wish to apply to, download their applications (if they don’t use the Common Application or require supplemental applications) and take note of their deadlines.

Begin your scholarship search. Some websites you may want to check out are: fastweb.com, scholarships.com, finaid.org. You can also find more information on scholarships on the internet and your local library. Be careful with any site or person that asks you for money to find you scholarships or fill out financial aid forms. This information should be free.

If you are planning to take the SAT or ACT in the fall, consider taking a prep course or studying for the tests on your own. PrepMe, an online SAT prep course is available on Naviance.

You may want to think of preparing a resume. This will give colleges a summary of all your activities, awards, experiences since freshman year. This can include a personal statement about what makes you unique, what motivates you. You can find a resume builder on Naviance. Please continue to check Naviance regularly, as all information from the College Guidance Department will be sent out through Naviance.
