protection of oceans and also planted in them ideas on how the students can take up small projects like adopting areas closer to seas and going on a mission to clean up such places and make them garbage free. Students could relate the talk session with their Social studies lesson - Realms of the Earth, The Hydrosphere.

THE SWAMPS OF FLORIDA

While travelling has come to a virtual standstill the world over, the students of Choice have not let that dampen their spirits. Instead they have transitioned to travel the new normal way - Virtually!

As an extension to their learning of Science on the topic, Pollination in Flowers, the students of Grade VI embarked on a virtual tour to the swamps of Florida to comprehend more about pollination in the rare ghost orchid. The objective was to highlight the importance of pollination in the ecosystem. The fig sphinx moth, hovering over the unusually beautiful flower that is unique to the swamps, was indeed a sight to behold for the students! Agriculture is a primary industry that employs about 50% of the world’s population, and it includes growing crops, fruits, vegetables, flowers, and rearing livestock.

The concept of the various agricultural practices is being introduced in the NCERT Science Text book Class 8 in the chapter-Crop Production and Management.

Based on the concept, Class 8 students were asked to do a fun hands-on activity to prepare their own BIO-GARDEN. The class was divided into groups and

the members were asked to prepare a video showing the different steps of agricultural practices. Children took initiative to grow their own plant in their garden and recorded everything from the first step of preparation of soil. All the members in the group did a good work of preparing their own garden and following all the steps of agricultural practices.

These life skills activities can inculcate the understanding of the various practices a farmer does in his field. They get awareness about the types of nutrients (either manure or fertilizer), pesticides, importance of irrigation etc required for the field.

21ST CENTURY SKILLS

With the onset of the 21st century, the entire world has witnessed an era of intense transformation in all areas, whether it is education, global trade and economy, technology or society. Recently, the covid-19 pandemic is also throwing up challenges for

an individual to cope with its impacts.

Naturally, for such times, a different skill–set is required that would enable an individual to cope and succeed in facing the challenges in real-life, leading to his holistic progress. These skills are addressed as 21st Century Skills/ Learning Skills/ Transversal Competencies etc.

In this second round of our Introduction to Career, we’ve taken the students of 8th grade through the 21st Century skills, an awareness on, What is it? What are those skills? How does one learn them and what can one gain out of learning them etc…
