Welcome to the Northville Art House 2017 fall brochure

Register today for Fall Classes!

The Northville Art house classes and workshops run daily from 9:00am until 9:00pm. We pride ourselves in offering small class sizes for both our 6 week classes and workshops, because of this we ask that all students pre-register. Walk-in and last minute registrations may not be accommodated.

Pre-registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis and is required to guarantee supplies. Registration forms and full “tuition” payment must be received before the first class.

Classes require at least three students enrolled in order to run or they will be cancelled. The Northville Art House reserves the right to cancel any class for any reason. In this event, students will receive a full refund.

The Northville Art House does not prorate classes. A 50% refund will be given to any student who cancels their registration before the first class. After the first class, no refund will be given.

Please note that some classes have an additional materials fee. These fees are payable to the instructor.

Class prices are listed for members (M) and non-members (NM). Registration online or in person starts August 14th for 2017 fall classes.

Hands on Art for PRESCHOOLERS Art Around the World Instructor: Maria Latour Little artists ages 3-5 will develop motor skills and gain self-confidence by creating art using paint, oil pastels, fabric and clay. Projects will be inspired by the art, animals and landscape of a different country each week including India, Italy, Africa, Japan and Australia. Hands-On ART Instructor: Maria Latour Kids ages 5-8 will explore many different medias and subjects – from drawing a still life to sculpting animals in clay! Students will be exposed to all different types of art with an emphasis on experimentation and exploring their own creativity. KIDS DRAWING Instructor: Sasha Roberts - Levi Kids ages 5 – 8 will learn the fundamentals of drawing and composition while exploring various subject matter including landscape, still life and nature. Young Adult DRAWING Instructor: Julie Woodard Kids ages 9-14 will have fun drawing a variety of scenes each week while learning about shapes, shading, color, perspective, composition, and more! Crochet: Seasonal Headband Instructor: Jenna Woodcox

In this multi-session class students ages 10 -15 will learn how to make a Crocheted seasonal headband. Students will learn several crochet techniques, take away a crochet hook and be able to work on their own time to in between classes. Written instructions will be provided and each student will leave the

course with a finished headband. Participants can bring one skein of medium weight yarn of any fiber content to work with to class. (Recommended acrylic for

wash- ability)

ACRYLIC PAINT THE MASTERS for teens Instructor: Julie Woodard Teens ages 10-15 will paint like a master in this 6 week class. "What makes a Master's painting a masterpiece? Students will study and paint a different Master's work each week learning color mixes, styles, and brush stroke techniques of various artists such as O'Keeffe, Van Gogh, Monet and more!" WATERCOLOR for teens Instructor: Julie Woodard This course is designed to introduce the beauty of watercolor to young adults ages 10-15 years old. Learn about watercolor paper, tools, paints, and techniques. Watercolor skills taught in the class will be used to create several new and completed projects. Friday Nights! Gather your friends for a fun

night of art!

YOUNG ADULT CREATIVE ART STUDIO Instructor: Jenna Woodcox For ages 9+: Each month, join the Art House for a night of creativity and fun with easy to follow along with, one night art classes. Bring your friends, meet new ones, and listen to music while you snack, chat, and have a great time! The best part? You get to take home whatever you make with you that same night! (Additional $10 materials fee payable to the instructor.) 0Fridays 6:30 - 8:30 pm. (M) $24, (NM) $27 per date. Sept. 22nd - Mixed Media-Block Art: Bring a printed image (artwork, photograph and or, any small pieces than can be attached to the block) on regular copy paper to mount on a rough sawn block to use as a wall hanging (approx 5x7). We will use a variety of art supplies available in the art house to enhance our creations to make a one of a kind piece.

Oct. 20th – Jewelry Making-Chakra Bracelet: Learn some fun and easy jewelry making techniques in this one night workshop. We will study the 7 chakras of the body including their colors, benefits and ways these relate to our creativity as artists.

Nov. 17th – Collage-Inspiration Piece: What inspires you? Makes you happy? We will use imagery to represent these ideas to make a meaningful, inspirational collage to keep in your own space to serve your creativity and inspiration in life. Students can bring images in and also utilize what the art house has in house.

Dec. 15th – Festive Fiber-Holiday Banner: With an array of yarn available and color to choose from, students will make a 6’ banner using super fun fiber techniques of their choice. Perfect for the holidays and makes a great decor item or Gift.

Instructor: Julie Woodard Watercolor can be one of the hardest mediums but also one of the beautiful. Learn without fear aspects of various washes, paper, paints, brushes, masking, negative painting, and special effects for texture. Each week will be a new topic and students will leave with completed scenes designed to reinforce techniques taught. For those painters with experience we will work on expanding painting skills and exploring different methods of pushing your work to the next level. Each participant will get personal instruction and support. If you have painting supplies please bring what you have along with reference for something you would like to paint. INTERMEDIATE ACRYLIC PAINTING Instructor: Kim Ensch Prerequisite: Beginning Acrylic Painting class or acrylic painting experience. Explore painting using the versatile medium of acrylics. This class is for the intermediate painter. Build stronger paintings, more focus on techniques and improving creative practices. Every student gets individual attention in a learner-centered based approach. Bring a painting you are currently working on or start fresh using your own reference, photo, or drawing. Mixed Media & Encaustic Instructor: Maria Latour This evening class will go beyond the basic collage techniques to incorporate paint, handmade paper, fabric, gold foil, photos and wax into complex works of art with a paint like finished surface. All Material included but bring personal photos or poems to incorporate.

Encaustic for Beginners Instructor: Maria Latour

Encaustic is a centuries old method of painting with molten bees wax and pigment, resulting in luscious, vibrant colors and translucent layers. Students will explore various encaustic techniques including layering, fusing, incising and image transfer. Limited to 5 students. Thursdays 1:00 - 3:30 pm; Session 1: Sept. 14th – Sept. 28th

Acrylic Exploration Instructor: Julie Woodard Students will be introduced to and will experiment with a variety of mediums for acrylic painting. ACRYLIC MIXED MEDIA PAINTING Instructor: Kim Ensch Are you looking for something different in a painting class? Not so traditional! If you have a creative spirit and you are open to trying different types of art making materials? This class is an exploration of using acrylic paints along with mixing up different media such as ink, graphite, charcoal, pastel as well as adding fabric, thread and paper and other materials, (rocks, wood, metals). This class will work on discovering methods or processes on how materials work together to create beautiful surface textures and unique visual images. Look to our website for the material list. Mosaics: Tiny Pieces Make the Big Picture Instructor: Maria Latour Enter the creative world of colorful mosaics! Learn how to design, cut, glue and grout glass and ceramic pieces into beautiful works of art.

Art Therapy Classes for Adults BEGINNING CALLIGRAPHY Instructor: Jennifer Helner This class is designed for those students NEW to Calligraphy. Traditional Italic is a beautiful calligraphic hand that can be used for many hand lettered applications and projects. This class is designed for beginnings, with a step-by-step approach. Student will be given all the supplies needed. Registration deadline is Sept. 5th. Please tell us if you’re left handed. Self-Understanding through the Creative Process Instructor: Kyle Pryce MA LPC CAADC Limit 6 students

In this group experience, we will combine art and group exercises to help facilitate a deeper and more compassionate understanding of one’s self. 3 week workshop Fabric Dye & Surface Design Instructor: Maria Latour Students will vat dye 100% cotton fabric using resist dye techniques then make their own stamps to further layer the surface with fabric paint. Silk screen printing will also be introduced in this 3 week class. Each student will also receive a white, silk scarf to dye/paint. Fabric yardage created in class can be used for quilting or home projects like pillows and place mats. (Additional $20 materials fee payable to instructor.)

1 day workshop INTERPRETING PHOTOS IN FABRIC: Landscape Art Quilting Instructor: Patti Devine Start with an inspiration picture and learn how to turn it into an original art quilt. This workshop is for beginner to more experienced quilters and other fabric enthusiasts. Learn how to make a pattern from your photograph, choose a fabric palette, fuse and design a simple art quilt. Students should bring in 1 inspiration picture or photo and a color paper copy enlarged to the size of their finished piece, no larger than 11 x 18". Students will complete one large art quilt top. A list of required materials will be provided when

1 day workshop WET FELTING BASICS Instructor: Linda Larsen Explore the art of wet felting by making a table runner or scarf from wool roving. Each Student will make design and embellishment decisions enabling them to make their own unique piece of wearable are. Wet felting requires some physical exertion, but the effort is worth it. Designer Jewelry Workshop Instructor: Biljana Stewart, Designer Biba Design Jewelry The ancient craft of beaded jewelry plays a large role in modern fashion. Today, gemstone beads and cultured pearls from around the globe are available in seemling endless colors, shapes and sizes. Designers are using gemstone beads to create stunning visual impact especially when used in combination with a wide range of metals such as silver, gold, pewter, copper and others. New techniques and easy access to tools have made it easier than ever to learn how to assemble your own beaded gemstone jewelry.

In this class you will chose from a selection of the instructor’s original jewelry designs to work on, in the form of a Designer Jewelry kit. Design kits contain all the semi-precious gemstones, precious metal and other materials you will need to replicate the design. Lab fees start at $32 and vary depending on the design materials in the kit you choose. You will be shown techniques used by designers to create fashionable beaded gemstone jewelry sold at high end retailers. Register for both or just one!

This is going to be a two-day workshop inviting couples to learn new and unique ways of problem solving, communication and loving one another. This workshop is great for students of all skill levels, there is now expectation of prior art skills just an open mind! We

will all come together in a relaxed environment and explore ways of reconnecting and cultivation a deeper, more meaningful relationship through the creative process. Sometimes it’s hard to find the works for how we fell, and working together can help us better understand our own feelings as well as our partner’s! Acrylic Texture “Tiles” Workshop

Artists will explore the versatility of GOLDEN Acrylic Paints and Gels by creating multiple surfaces and learning ways to incorporate and layer texture into works of art. Students will be building texture on canvas and experimenting with Golden Gels & Pastes, Fluid & High Flow Acrylics and Stencils. Students will leave with several finished acrylic texture canvases, or “Tiles". Some surfaces may be prepared in advance due to long dry times. All materials provided.
