Wake up—it’s springtime! As 999 frogs awaken from a long winter’s nap, they’re surprised to find that many other animals are still sleeping. Not for long! The froglets and their big brother gleefully awaken a turtle, a lizard, and some ladybugs. But when snoring leads them down a hole, they pull out someone they don’t want to wake: a big, long snake. Wake up—it’s springtime! As 999 FROGS awaken from a long winter’s nap, they’re surprised to find that many other animals are still sleeping. Not for long! The froglets and their big brother gleefully awaken a turtle, a lizard, and some ladybugs. But when snoring leads them down a hole, they pull out someone they don’t want to wake—a big, long snake. How will 999 FROGS escape? Never underestimate the power of friendship!

999 TADPOLES

“Murakami’s impish, toy-bright illustrations . . . have a distinctly, even stubbornly, handmade feel. Besides setting the stage for outlandish fun, the message they convey is unmistakable: Nothing in these pages is not for children. The result is an uncommon picture book designed not only to entertain young people but also to give them their due.“ —Leonard Marcus, The New York Times Book Review

!“Highly recommended for reading aloud.” —Booklist, starred review

THERE’S NO ONE I LOVE LIKE YOU There’s no place like home . . . and no love like Mommy’s.

Brayden Bunny doesn’t feel like picking up his toys or washing his whiskers. It’d be so much easier to live with his friends, so Brayden decides to give it a try. But every new home he visits comes with a new problem: Missy Mouse’s house is too messy, Benny Badger’s house smells a little funny, and Fipsi Squirrel’s house is too high. At last Brayden Bunny visits his Cousin Pepi.

Everything there is perfect and easy, but it doesn’t take long for Brayden to realize that something—or someone—very important is missing.

Marcus Pfister’s magical adventure takes the reader from the concrete jungle to the real jungle.

HEIDIYoungsters will love Heidi’s timeless story.

Johanna Spyri’s world-famous novel is retold for younger children, with beautiful illustrations by Maja Dusíková. It’s impossible not to love the little girl who frolics in the mountain meadows with Peter and his goats, brings joy to the blind grandmother, helps Klara learn to walk again, and restores hope and love to Grandfather.

JOHANNA SPYRI (1827–1901) was born in Hirzel, Switzerland. Heidi is by far her most well-known story. Published throughout the world, it has inspired more than twenty film or television productions, a musical drama, and a tourist area—Heidiland—in Switzerland.

MAJA DUSÍKOVÁ was born in Piestany, Czechoslovakia, and now lives in Florence, Italy. She is one of the most celebrated children’s book illustrators in Europe.

MARCUS PFISTER is the author of the phenomenally successful Rainbow Fish series, as well as many other books for children. Pfister lives with his family in Berne, Switzerland.

THE NGRY LITTLE KNIGHTWhat happens when an ornery little knight comes up against a hotheaded young dragon?

The Angry Little Knight, otherwise known as Hothead, is tired of “practice” fighting. He wants a real adventure. But when he rides his trusty steed into the dark forest, he finds more than he’s bargained for: a little dragon that is just as bad-tempered as he is. Will the dragon eat the knight? Will the knight slay the dragon? Both little hotheads are in for a surprise, and the dark forest will never be the same again.

THE JOLLY STEMSHIP Come sail the high seas with this kooky crew!

ll aboard, if you please! It’s high seas with a Pekingese as The Jolly Steamship sets sail. Along the way the travelers see dolphins, a seal, and a whale, yet nothing seems to make the Peke wag its tail. But an octopus playing in a jazz quartet and other things you’d never forget make even the Peke want to sail next year. Things come and go, but the sea stays here!

HARRY ROWOHLT is an author, translator, newspaper columnist, and talented speaker and performer. Harry has translated 178 books from English into German, including A. A. Milne’s Winnie the Pooh.

WALTER TRIER (1890–1951), a newspaper cartoonist and illustrator, was forced to break off his studies at the Prague School for Arts and Crafts, as he was deemed to be lacking in ability. In 1910 he moved to Berlin, where he quickly became one of the most famous cartoonists in the country.

THE HPPY OWLSThis simple story captures the wonder of nature and the joy of everyday miracles.

Why are these owls so happy? That’s just what the chickens, ducks, and geese want to know. But when they send a peacock over to find out why, they’re incredulous at the reply. How could anyone be happy simply to see the rain and sunshine? What could be so joyful about the flowers and butterflies? Celestino Piatti’s lovely story, originally published in 1964, is a powerful testimony to seeing the beauty in our world and standing apart from the crowd.

CELESTINO PIATTI (1922–2007) was a Swiss graphic artist, painter, and book designer. He was a popular illustrator of children’s books and achieved international success as a designer for Deutscher Taschenbuch Verlag (DTV).

Written by the BROTHERS GRIMM Illustrated by QUENTIN GRÉBAN

SNOW WHITE Quentin Gréban’s sophisticated illustrations give this classic tale a modern look.

One of the world’s most beloved fairy tales, the story of Snow White appears in the lore of many European countries. In some versions, the dwarfs are robbers and the magic mirror is the moon. In one telling, the poisoned apple is a ring. But the most well-known version is the German one collected by the brothers Grimm, here newly illustrated by one of Europe’s most popular illustrators. Quentin Gréban has brought to life all the innocence of the young Snow White, the devotion of the seven dwarfs who take her in, and the haughty envy of her beautiful but wicked stepmother.

LITTLE POLAR BEAR Lars and the Reindeer

US $7.95CAN $8.95

The short North Pole summer is ending, and the reindeer

are starting their winter migration. But this year, man has interfered

with their journey. A high fence that goes on for miles is right

in their path, and piles of giant pipes litter the landscape. The herd is trapped.

If they don’t get through, they will perish. Lars has an idea, but will it work?

Fans of the Little Polar Bear books will delight in thisexciting story with its important message about man’s impact on the environment. Lars and the Reindeer
