at the LISMORE WORKERS CLUB , Keen Street, Lismore at 7.30pm.

OPINIONS EXPRESSED IN THIS MAGAZINE ARE NOT NECESSARILY THOSE OF THE CLUB.

GUIDELINES FOR CONDITIONAL REGISTRATION (CLUB PLATES)

All NRVVCC members should familiarize themselves with the NSW RMS rules and club rules surrounding how to use your vehicles on Conditional registration, together with the requirement to carry certain documents in

the vehicle whenever it is being used. If you are on the log book trial, the RMS issued log book must be completed by the member before you use

the vehicle for anything other than NRVVCC club outings. Vehicles not on log book, the member should phone/email the secretary when a movement is needed for anything other than club outings.

Any member with vehicles(s) conditionally registered through the NRVVCC and who do not attend a minimum of three club events per calendar year (not including registration day & meetings) may be asked by

the committee to show cause as to why the club should sanction the renewal of their registration in the following year.

The Club cannot afford the risk of the system being abused and the subsequent loss of the benefits of these worthwhile concessions for other Club members.

C Loadsman discussed a letter that was received by the Committee from a concerned member in regards to the number of events required to be attended in order to obtain registration. R Lovell then advised the discussions that the Committee had. Our Club has a rule that a member must attend 3 outings during the

Page 5: Northern Rivers Vintage & Veteran Car Club Inc. · 2018-01-22 · Northern Rivers Vintage & Veteran Car Club Inc. Meeting No. 630 – 13th December 2017 Held at Lismore Workers Club

year in order to have registration papers signed at the end of the year. The Club decided many years ago to put this rule in place so as to not become a Club for the convenience of members to obtain cheap registration. In previous years the Club has been a little lacks in enforcing this rule. Some members were advised at rego days that they had not complied with the rules and their registration papers would not be signed. The Committee had made a decision at a Committee meeting in November that “event” would not include attendance at a monthly meeting. After the AGM the new Committee met to further discuss this decision. The new Committee agreed to keep the Policy of the previous Committee that monthly meetings would not be included in the interpretation of “event”. The Committee then decided that the Klaxon would now include each month the outing rules so that every member is aware of this new Policy. The Committee also decided they would meet each year after the Rally to discuss any members that have not complied with the rule so far and then that member can then have the opportunity to attend the required number of events so their registration can be signed. In the event any member will not be able to comply, they will have the opportunity to put their case forward to the Committee. R Siewart also raised the issue that Club events are almost always on the weekends and this makes it difficult for people who work on weekends to attend the required number of events. C Loadsman advised the Events Committee had discussed the possibility of having some mid-week events during the year to cater for those members. P Henson advised he had received a phone call from another Car Club who is interested in coming to Lismore in May 2018. Events Committee will include this in the events for May. N Middleton advised she had been to the RMS today and was discussing the requirement for all cars to carry their Certificate of Approved Operations at all times. Suggested that, if you don’t have one, go to the RMS at the first opportunity and obtain one. R Lovell advised visitors of the Club common registration renewal date of the Club, being 31 December. When first registering the car, members need to specify this date to RMS. C Loadsman read a portion of the Grafton Club’s newsletter where they reported that a member of an affiliated Club was fined $1,200.00 for not carrying their Log Book when driving the car. A Keys reported the train in Byron Bay begins operating this Saturday MEETING CLOSED: 8.25pm Raffle won by: T Prodger

Evans Head Great Eastern Fly In

We arrived at our venue at 8-30am expecting to be one of the early arrivals. How wrong we

were as we could see the display area close to full with us in a long line of vehicles waiting

with volunteers working to position the later arrivals. It was an extremely hot day and a ‘Big

Thank You’ to Vern Keys for erecting his gazebo, affording us shelter from the hot sun for the

rest of the day.

The display of vehicles was the largest that I’ve ever seen, the display area filled to capacity

with late arrivals having to display their vehicles in the public car park. As usual there was a

variety of vintage, veteran, classic, street machines and hot rods and I’m sure the public spent

as much time, or more, perusing the huge display of vehicles

as they did the aircraft displays.

Stalls to protect the public from the heat were erected in the

aircraft display area and viewing area where the planes were

taking off and landing. The ‘fly overs’ aerobatic displays or

view the F111 and other vintage aircraft and aircraft

memorabilia were of great interest, and especially to the older

generation.

At approximately 1-30pm many of the vehicles commenced leaving and at around 2pm, we

called it a day.

Lunch at Wollongbar Tavern

The staff in the dining room at the Wollongbar Tavern must have thought all their birthdays had come at once when over forty members of the N.R.V.V.C.C. joined together for lunch on Sunday afternoon. Then perhaps they were for warned as the delightful food supply kept us satisfied and never ran dry. It was a very pleasant afternoon in the air conditioned dining area which gave us a chance to escape the hot humid conditions outside.

Upon leaving we found that a strong breeze had sprung and on the run home tree branches had littered the highway, but still no rain.

AUSTRALIA

Our flag bears the stars that shine at night, in a southern sky of blue and the little flag in the

corner is part of our heritage too. It’s for the English, the Scots and the Irish that were sent to

the ends of the earth .The rogues and the schemers, the doers and dreamers who gave modern

Australia birth.

And you who are shouting to change it, you don’t seem to understand, It’s the flag of our law

and our language, NOT a flag of a faraway land. Though there’s plenty of people who’ll tell

you, how when Europe was put into night that little old flag in the corner, was a symbol of

freedom and light. It doesn’t mean that we owe an allegiance, to a forgotten imperial dream.

We’ve the stars to show where we’re going, the OLD FLAG to show where we’ve been.

My 1938 Plymouth

I purchased the car from a neibour of my father who was using it as a chicken coup during the mid1960’s. After a clean out, paint job and new upholstery it became our family car. After a visit to relations in Sydney we headed home and when leaving the Harbour Bridge a motorcycle cop waved us on for travelling too slow. Then on the outskirts of Bellingen we were once again waved down for travelling too fast at a speed of 42.5 miles per hour and copped an on the spot fine of 5 Pound. I sold the car to a “local yokel” and sometime later, discovered it abandoned on the side of the road. It probably finished up in a wrecking yard. I would love to still own it today.

RIP Ford, Holden, Mitsubishi & Toyota manufacturing plants

Australian Motor industries produced a range of Standard, Triumph, Rambler, Mercedes –

Benz, and Toyota automobiles in Australia between 1958 and 1987. British Leyland (formerly

Morris and BMC) assembled and manufactured vehicles in Australia from 1950 to 1975.

Chrysler departed the Australian car market in 1981 when it sold the remainder of its

shareholding in Chrysler to Mitsubishi.

Nissan first began assembling cars in 1966 in Australia. By the end of the 1980’s however,

Nissan was facing financial difficulties and eventually closed its Australian factories in 1992,

becoming strictly a vehicle importer afterwards.

Renault (Australia) was established in the late 1950’s to organise the importation and contract

assembly of Renault vehicles in Australia. Australian production ended with the closure of the

Heidelberg plant in July 1981.

Roots Australia produced a range of Hillman, Humber and Singer automobiles in Australia

between 1946 and 1965.

Volkswagen Australia was formed in 1957 and made not only VW’S its operations were

expanded to include Datsun and Volvo models. The factory was sold to Nissan in 1976 and

Australian assembly of Volkswagens ended shortly after.

How many jobs, offshoot businesses and families did this affect over the decade

a Swiss, a Greek. a Singaporean, an Italian.
