NCL is a subsidiary of Coal India Ltd. it was founded in the year 1986 Earlier it was a subsidiary

of Central Coalfields Limited, Headquarter Singrauli Madhya Pradesh. NCL producing 100% of coal

from opencast mines. There is steep rise in the coal demand on NCL to meet the power and energy

needs of the country 47.03 MT 2004-2005 to 68.64 MT 2013-14 The major demand of coal on NCL

is from power sector, which contributes more than 96% of the total demand. The CIL production

level in the year 2013-14 is projected as 462.42 million tonnes out of which NCL contribution

will be 68.64 million tonnes.

NCL there are 10 project with production capacity of 74.5 MT pa, The NCL supplies coal to

National Thermal Power (NPTC), Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd and Renu Power

division of Hindalco industries. NCL is also supplying coal to power plants of Rajasthan state

Electricity Board and Delhi Vidyut Board and to other industries like Aluminium , Chemical etc.

History

In order to provide for a higher growth in coal sector to meet the growing energy needs

of the country the Government in 1973 nationalized the coal mines by enacting the Coal

Nationalization Act. Our company was incorporated as a private limited company with

name “Coal Mines Authority Limited” and after that 9 July 1973, Act certain

nationalized coal mines were vested in our company by the Central Government.

There after in 1975 Department of Coal Ministry of Energy, GOI, with a view to

integrate and streamline the structural set up the manner 27 September 1975 providing

for the re-organization of Coal Ministry Authority Limited as Coal India Limited,

which was to responsible for the entire coal mining sector owned and controlled by the

Central Government.

NCL is the subsidiary of Coal India Limited producing 100% Coal from opencast

mines.

Since inception NCL has show overall in all spheres Coal production increased

from 13.4 MT 1986-87 to 68.64 MT 2013-2014

Non-Coking Coal:

These are coals without coking properties.

Mainly used as thermal grade coal for power generation also used for cement,

fertilizer, glass, ceramic, paper, chemical and brick manufacturing, and for other

heating purposes

Reject:

Rejects are the products of coal beneficiation process after separation of cleans or

middling’s, as a fraction of feed raw coal. Used for Fluidized Bed Combustion

(FBC) Boilers for power generation, road repairs, briquette (domestic fuel) making,

land filling etc.

Conclusion

After I get trained in one of the most leading coal company of India, I saw a

harmonious working environment there are excellent Quality Managers, Engineers

and chemists are working which enable NCL to earn huge profit. All the employees

are well skilled. The profit of NCL in 2013-14 was 9303.88 Cr. and NCL provides

a good healthy wages and salaries to their employees, and other facilities like

Resident, Recreation, Medical facilities, Education, Proper roads, Proper water

supply, Electricity, L.P.G and other lots of facilities.
