Carpe Diem!

!e NCCF has met National Standards for Community Foundations. !is means that you can be assured that we meet the highest industry standards in the areas of governance, development, accountability, leadership and communications.

1

As we were in the midst of preparing this report, our dear friend and mentor, David J. Doino, passed away at the age of 87. Dave was a founder of the NCCF, served as our !rst Executive Director and worked as Development Director up until the time of his passing.

Dave was noted for his many tidbits of wisdom; one of which was “carpe diem!” Thanks to Dave, his philosophy of “seizing the day” has become a part of the community foundation’s culture.

This past year o"ers a case in point. We could have been stalled by the e"ects of the economy, but instead we “seized the day”. We sought and found new ways to address our mission of improving the northern Chautauqua community and promoting local philanthropy. Through projects such as MissionFish, Grantsmanship Training and others, we’ve helped local non-pro!ts to build their capacity. In 2009, AmazingCounty.com was created with a goal of promoting pride in Chautauqua County, while also promoting the use of social networking. In these ways and others, we are seizing the day; this practice is but one of the many legacies left to us by our friend Dave.

On behalf of the Board of Directors and sta", we o"er our sincerest “thank you” for your steadfast support and encouragement.

George W. Holt, PresidentDiane E. Hannum, Executive Director

Ten reasons people choose to give through community foundations

oneWe are a local organization with deep roots in the community.

twoOur sta" & volunteers have broad expertise regarding our community’s issues & needs

threeWe provide highly personalized service tailored to each individual’s charitable and !nancial interests.

fourOur funds help people invest in the causes they care about most.
