from February
meeting
•On page 3, there was a name error. The minutes
referred to Jean, when it should have read Joan,
apologies for an inconvenience caused.
•Also on page 3, ‘Dimensions Annual reviews’ needs
changing to Annual Reviews.
•The group is still looking for new and different
venues. This is the first time meeting at the Jurgens
Centre.
•The next meeting in June will be in Woking or
Spelthorne.
•Surrey County Council has been working in
partnership with Surrey Disabled Peoples Partnership
in Central Staines in Thames Street.

Voting Event
•This will be developed over the next few weeks and
working towards opening at the end of
April/beginning of May.
•There will be a Cafe with an opportunity for people
with Learning Difficulties to train and learn new
skills, run by Employability.
•There will be a Changing Places on the first floor,
which will be accessible by Lift.
•Someone from Spelthorne Hub could attend a
future meeting to update the group on the Hub.
•The venue could have a room which would be
suitable for a North West Valuing People Group
meeting in the future.
•There will be a Valuing People voting event on
Wednesday 29th April at Dorincourt in Leatherhead.
•Surrey Choices have invited local candidates to
attend day services to speak to people.
•Dimensions, is hosting an Everybody Counts
meeting on 28 the April 2015. They have been
requesting parties information in Easy Read.
•Lisa to send link around for website with minutes.

Updates from Partnership Board
•Surrey sent in the results of the Self Assessment
Framework.
•This is information from the year April 2013-March
2014 and will be signed off at the Health and
Wellbeing Board.
•Some areas are good (Green) and some areas
need more work to be done (Red).
• When all of the results have been gathered the
Government will publish the National Picture.
•The Police have published the results of their Easy
Read Feeling Safe Survey in 2014.
•1 in 10 people who responded has been bullied in
the last 12 months, which was double the amount in
the ‘generic survey’.
•The local Police have been good in working with
the Partnership Board, there is a lot of easy Read
information available.
•Lisa to send results to North West valuing People Group
members.

•At the Partnership Board meeting we saw a DVD
which KAG have made in Surrey, with real peoples
views on what it’s like to be bullied. It covered ways
in which people could report a crime.
•1,000 copies are going to be given out across
Surrey and they are looking at putting it on YouTube
so that people can look at it online.
•It was asked at the meeting “How much training do
the Police get around Challenging Behaviour?”
•Alison Mould asked about the Polices awareness
of Learning Disabilities as “On the job” training,
seems to be commonplace.
•The group felt it was important that the Police had
understanding of additional needs, especially as
supported living encourages more inclusion in the
Community.
•Lisa mentioned the Pegasus card which people
with Learning Disabilities and Autism can apply for
to make Police aware of their condition.
•Jill Budd said that Surrey Choices have been
involved in joint training Police and Care
Practitioners, spending some time in services.
•On the 28th April 2015 Organisations are coming
together for Surrey Annual Safeguarding.

National Consultation.
•Dimensions have said over the last 10 years they
have been involved in training Police Officers over a
period of 3 days. 2-3 Police Officers come at a time,
and this helps build good relationships.
•They work with them around language used, e.g.
Support Worker not Carer. Allowing them to treat
people with dignity and respect.
•The Police are active members of the Autism
Partnership Board.
•Georgina Herbert said it’s about building
relationships and being proactive.
•Donna Hunt shared the Unique ADHD are looking
to create an information booklet about ADHD by the
end of the summer.
•The National Consultation forms part of the
response to Winterbourne View, it is looking at
Making Rights better and Listening to People.
• Invite a representative from the local Police to a future
meeting.
• Check if the Surrey Police Survey and information is on
the Partnership Board website.

Local Transport Review.
•Being seen to be proactive, the pace of change and
criticism about getting people out of Hospitals.
•The Transport review was looking at local routes and
services.
•There has been some comments about the manner
of Bus Drivers, who sometimes misinterpret Bus Pass
eligibility such as the right to a Companion.
•The suggestions on where savings can be made will
be going to Cabinet on 26th May 2015.
•The Partnership Board has been working on a 1
page Commissioning Strategy, developing strategic
goals.
•The North West Valuing People group will be looking
at priorities for the local area, in a 1 page summary.
•The group would like contact numbers to speak to
people to discuss if they have concerns about an area
of feedback such as Transport or Housing.
•They would like to get a response by phone or email.
• Lisa to resend link to Consultation, responses are needed
by 29th May 2015.

•Keep group updated, feedback to Andrew Price or
Lisa Nash who will feedback to leads.
•Karen Melhuish fed back that Surrey holds a lot of
meetings to gather feedback in comparison to other
areas which she has worked in previously.
•The group were in favour of a one page summary
they don’t want a weighty document where there is
too much to read.
•Go back to basic in terms rather than complex
language.
•Debbie Aitken reminded the group that every 2nd
Thursday of the month in Woking a Commissioning
Surgery is held by Surrey County Council and the
Clinical Commissioning Group.
•Commissioners are available for the day and people
can book in for an hours slot. Individuals and family
members and providers to give information about
developments and updates.
•If the day is difficult they can meet at alternative
times.
•Next one is the 2nd Thursday in May which is 14th
May, please email [email protected].
•Alison Mould said it was really helpful for people to
meet face to face,

Updates from the group.
•Dramatize are working towards their annual show
which will take place on 18/7/15 at the Magna Carta
Theatre in Epsom.
•They have 6 new Starters signed up for September
but still have spaces for next term.
•Christina Earl shared that the Woking job club will
be open through the Summer apart from the Bank
Holiday.
•The service is looking forward to the upcoming
Making a Difference awards.
•There will be a new holiday scheme for 18-30 year
olds, new job every week gaining skills.
•Running in the last 2 weeks of July and the first 2
weeks of August.
•Some of the work areas people can gain
experience in include; Beauty, Catering, Dance,
Radio, Office Skills, Gaming.
•Jana Minova shared with the group that the Care
Act came into affect on 1st April 2015, and there are
some key changes.
•Eligibility criteria is changing for individuals and
carers.

Updates from the group.
•Helen Couchman shared with us that Dimensions
is holding a recruitment day on Friday 17th April.
•Dimensions is hosting their Everybody Talks event
on 28th April, at The Well in Ashford.
•Their Planning Live event was a success.
•Ishret Mirza asked that Carers in Runnymede
please make contact to be included on their list.
•For updates following the Care Act please remain
in contact with your practitioner or Team Manager.
•Andrew Price said that if you have difficulty in
finding a contact please ask himself, Debbie Aitken
or Lisa Nash.
•Debbie Aitken shared that the Police in some areas
have Police Panel meetings, in which they discuss
issues around bullying and antisocial behaviour.
•Lois shared that Dramatize have secured funding
for a Minibus to take service users out, once staff
have obtained Minibus licences.
•Lisa to include North West Valuing People Group
members who are happy for email addresses to be shared
on future minutes.

•How safeguarding is conducted.
•How support and services are being provided.
•Direct Payments.
•Emphasis on transition periods.
•Social Care services in prisons.
•There is going to be a new assessment for Carers
and a new assessment for individuals, where
eligibility will be established.
•Organisations in Runnymede are to be updated on
this.
•Monday 20/4/15 Carers Strategy conference,
Young Carers 27/5/15 information is shared by
Action for Carers.

Updates from the group.
•Surrey County Council are running a Sandwich
carers Campaign to raise awareness of how people
juggle responsibilities. 8/6/15 is Carers' week, to raise
awareness of Carers.
•Georgina Herbert from London Care Partnership
wanted to thank Surrey for making them feel welcome
as a host borough.
•She told us about their project in Sunbury, which has
taken adults with Learning Disabilities and Autism
who are between 18-30 years old on admission.
•It is a full time residential service, which has been
built alongside a new Scout Hut in return for a piece
of their land.
•The service is about relationship building and the
compatibility of the people living there.
•Welmede handed out some leaflets about trips,
activities and holidays which are coming up soon.
•Donna Hunter told us about Unique Adult ADHD
Surrey, it was founded 2 ½ years ago and is based in
Sunbury on Thames.
•They have a drop in every Thursday 1:30-4:00pm at
Spelthorne Wellbeing Centre, Green Centre,
Glebeland Gardens, Shepperton, TW17 9DH.
•They meet on the first Tuesday of every month
7:00pm-9:00pm.

Updates from the group.
• Epsom is currently receiving between 40-50
referrals a month for the service.
•Andrea Ellison shared that the Linkable Cafe is
open again after closing for the Easter break.
•The Nightclub sessions have moved back to Quake
nightclub in Woking, which around 250-300 people
attend.
•Susan Ramjeeawon shared that Care Mark are
holding a Coffee Morning on 14/4/15 which the
Police have been invited to attend.
•Alison Mould shared that the Positive Behaviour
Support network was launched at the conference
which took place on Thursday 12th March 2015.
•The network is looking for more people to join ,
there is information on the Partnership Board
website about how to join the Network.
•Alison was involved in running a Workshop with
another parent around working with families, and is
waiting to hear feedback on it.
•Lisa to email the link to the Positive Behaviour Support
Network details on the Partnership Board website to the group.

•Karen Melhuish shared that Banstead short breaks is
now registered, the Short break service is looking and
assessments and referrals for the next 3-4 weeks,
prior to opening.
•Staff are also being recruited and trained at the
moment.
•Jill Budd shared that there have been lots of changes
in Surrey Choices, developing day services. Longer
hours and not closing during breaks.
•The service is looking at what people need, offering
flexibility and looking at more evening and weekend
services.
•Christina Earl also shared that Shared Lives are
recruiting for carers to join the Shared Lives service to
become host families for people with Learning
Disabilities.
