All activities for children formerly held in the Pavilion, Esk Street have now transferred to the Community Hub North Ormesby and are delivered by North Ormesby Neighbourhood Development Trust (NONDET). The same friendly staff will deliver the service within the Hub.

The provision is purpose built and provides state of the art facilities for children in a safe and stimulating environment. Ask for a tour of the facilities on the open day OFSTED Registered.

Sure Start Children’s Centre: Sharrock Close

Activities for Children

Where friendly, supportive staff offer local parents and carers of children aged 0 – 5 years access to health and family support services with play, learning and childcare opportunities, which help to give young children a good start in life.

Childcare opportunities are available for parents and carers who attend positive parenting, adult learning sessions or become literacy champions, supporting you to improve your parenting skills, gain qualifications and support your children with a positive start in life. You could become a volunteer,

Playgroup - 2-5 years 9.00-1.00pm Mon - Fri £8.00 (plus £2.50 if staying for lunch)

1.30 -4.30pm Tues - Fri £8.00

After School 3.00-6.00pm Mon - Fri £7.00

Holiday Care 8.00-6.00pm Mon - Fri £17 (in area) £20 (out of area)

Junior Youth Club 3.45-5.30pm Mon - Fri Membership £3.00 (70p per session, member) (80p per session, non member)

Messy Play North Ormesby’s Sure Start Children’s centre will deliver MESSY PLAY on Monday 10.00 – 11.00am in the Hub. Children must be 0-5years and it’s always useful to bring a change of clothes for your child as they will get messy!

All of the above activities are in addition to those provided at The Children’s Centre in Sharrock Close. For information on Playgroup, After School & Holiday Care, Junior Club and Playscheme please ring 242533.

LIBRARY

CommunityHub North Ormesby | Newsletter

Your new look library within North Ormesby Community Hub offers a wide selection of books for all ages, ranging from picture and board books for babies and toddlers, to a wide range of adult fiction and non-fiction, including large print books

and spoken word CDs.

If you can’t find the book you want on the shelves, but it is in stock in another Middlesbrough Library, we can reserve it for you and have it delivered to North Ormesby Library free of charge.

If you need access to a computer for study, leisure or seeking employment, the library offers computers with access to the internet, e-mail and Microsoft Office packages. Printing and fax facilities are also available.

The library has a range of exciting online resources that allow you to research your family history,

practice your driving theory test, search historic newspapers, try out the national citizenship test, and much more. There’s also a fantastic digital library, which allows you to download e-books to your e-reader for free - just ask a member of staff for more details.

We run a programme of events throughout all Middlesbrough Libraries so keep an eye out for future events at North Ormesby Community Hub, or ask a member of staff for information on upcoming events.

You can now access library facilities whenever the Community Hub is open. Why not come along and try out our new self service terminal!

The I.Y.S.S (formally Connexions and Middlesbrough Youth Service) are based in The Community Hub at North Ormesby every Monday between the hours of 1.15pm and 9pm to give information, advice and guidance on a variety of issues that Young People 13 – 19 yrs may need support in. Young People aged 11yrs (Year 7) – 19 yrs can also access a variety of projects between 7pm and 8.45pm such as Art and Crafts, Issue based work and Positive Activity programmes like abseiling and canoeing all in a fun, safe and friendly environment.

Integrated Youth Support Services East Middlesbrough Neighbourhood Management Team

The team have responsibility for managing the Hub. We would love to hear your views on the sort of activities and projects that you would like take place in North Ormesby. In addition to Hub management, the team develop partnerships with other agencies and services such as the Police, Fire Brigade, IYSS to address local issues. Regular multi agency walkabouts are arranged in each East Middlesbrough neighbourhood. This gives officers from different services the opportunity to spot anything untoward and take action. Residents are welcome to join in. If you would like details of the North Ormesby walkabouts then please ring 207270.

CRAFT GROUPWe have a group of very skilled volunteers who are able to provide tuition on various crafts including glass painting, dressmaking, card making, flower arranging and general needlecrafts.If you want to find out more please call in for a chat on Mondays 1pm-3pm in the Hub.If you have any sort of craft skills that you would like to pass on we would like to meet you. It’s a great way to make new friends! Please contact Val Gibson on 207271.

FRIDAY CLUBWe meet every Friday 1pm-3pm for a cuppa and a game of bingo. New members always welcome, why not pop in and have a chat.

MIDDLESBROUGH AMATEUR BOXING CLUB 7 National titles have been won since the boxing club began 12 years ago, one of our members, Joe Maphosa, currently boxes for England and he got through to the ABA finals last year. We have places for 10 – 14 year olds. Sessions run on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 6 – 7pm. Fees are £3 per week (not per session) If you are interested in joining us please contact Tony Whitby on 07402711478.

KEYBOARD CLASSESWe’re a well-established group of enthusiastic amateur musicians who play portable electronic keyboards for pleasure. We meet every Thursday (10:30 – 12:30) at the newly refurbished North Ormesby Hub. We can help you learn and enjoy making music – even if you have never touched a keyboard. Everyone welcome.

NORTH ORMESBY HISTORY GROUPWe meet every Monday from 1pm – 3:30pm at the North Ormesby Hub to study/ discuss and collect artefacts, pictures/articles on North Ormesby’s fascinating history, We’ve taken part in archive and local exhibitions and we have a large collection of material on North Ormesby.If you are interested in joining our group, or if you have any old photographs that we could copy please come along on Mondays at 1pm. We would welcome new members.

CARPET BOWLSThe Carpet Bowls team meets for practice sessions every Friday morning 10 -12.30 at the Hub in North Ormesby. If you would like to keep fit and join a very friendly group of keen enthusiasts, then come along for a cuppa and join in. We would welcome new members and younger people to take part in this enjoyable activity. Our established teams play in the league from October to March but we practice all year round on a Friday morning. Men and women of all age groups welcome. No experience necessary.
