Whilemostconsumerseitherrelyonanarchitectoraninteriordesignertoassistthemwiththisjob,analternativeisaprofessionallightingdesigner,trainedintheaesthetics,technologyandconservationoflighting.JaqueBethke,principalofPUREDesignEnvironments(www.JaqueBethke.net),afirmworkingwithclientsalloverthecountry,explainswhynooneshouldgothisalone.“Alightingdesignerstudiesthespaces,considersitsfunctionandcomesupwithaplanthataddresseseverythingfromthefixturesandspecificbulbs,tothelightings’overalleffect.Whenaroomislitforaparty,forinstance,thelightshouldtellthepeoplewheretomingle,andwheretofindthebuffet.” Goodlighting,whenusedproperly,alsohelpsyouseebetterandperformtasksmoreeasily.Additionally,itprovidessafety,securityandasense
