Dear NCPEDS member,

As announced in a recent weekly update, the enclosed educational campaign brings an important opportunity to provide valuable information on type 1 diabetes/DKA (diabetic ketoacidosis) to families in your practice. We hope you will use these materials throughout the year to help raise awareness for the community.

These materials have been prepared by Beyond Type 1 and parent advocates to provide helpful information to families that come through their trusted pediatric practices. AAP chapters around the country have shared the information and reported that practices found them useful.

Helping to educate parents is especially important in North Carolina. In October 2015, the General Assembly passed, and Governor McCrory signed, Reegan’s rule (SL2015-273) which encourages physicians and others to educate and discuss the warning signs of Type I Diabetes with parents of very young children. These resources should be helpful to you in educating parents.

Included in this package are educational posters and patient handouts for your waiting room. In addition, a digital portal at https://beyondtype1.org/north-carolina is available where you will find digital versions of warning signs posters in a variety of languages, as well as multimedia assets for your practice to use, such as an audio recording from actor Victor Garber to play on your office telephone system when patients are on hold.
