Arts & Faith Series The f nest of sacred music and art
125th Anniversary Hymn Festival | 2:00 p.m. | Sunday, November 22, 2015In honor of Littleton UMC’s anniversary, the choirs of the church, organist Kathy Forsberg and special musical guests will lead in an inspirational Hymn Festival, which will celebrate the many phases of the church’s first 125 years. Included with an array of favorite hymns will be a performance of “Our God We Sing and Celebrate,” a special hymn anthem that was commissioned to honor this special year in the life of the church. Free Admission.
Mendelssohn’s Elijah | 2:00 p.m. | Sunday, April 24, 2016Baritone Steven Taylor returns to Littleton United Methodist Church to perform the title role in a special performance of Felix Mendelssohn’s monumental oratorio. Joining him will be tenor James Baumgardner, The Chancel Choir of LUMC, the University Choir of Colorado Christian University and the Colorado Chamber Orchestra. This musical portrayal of the story of the Old Testament prophet is one of the best-loved and most dramatic oratorios in the repertoire. Free Admission.
LUMC Arts Festival | Friday, April 29 – Sunday, May 1, 2016The 23rd annual LUMC Art Show will open at 6:00 p.m. on Friday evening before a 7:00 p.m. performance of Steel Magnolias by the LUMC Encore Players. The art show will be open on Saturday during a matinee performance of the play, and during a special concert by Voices West in the evening – “Reel Time: Songs of the Cinema.” On Sunday, the show will be open throughout the morning, and then during two shows: a 2:00 p.m. matinee and a 7:00 p.m. performance.
Central City Opera | 7:30 p.m. | Friday, October 2, 2015Soloists from Central City Opera present Smooth Operator – a program of staged scenes from opera and musical theatre. This performance will feature music sung by infamous schemers from the stage, from Carmen and La Traviata to The Music Man and Sweeney Todd. Come hear some of the most beautiful arias and duets ever written, as well as a few jazzy comedic numbers. Free Admission.
Transcendent Trios | 7:30 p.m. | Friday, October 30, 2015Three of the finest performers in our region present a concert of exquisite rare works. Clarinetist Daniel Silver and series favorite, pianist David Korevaar, will join forces with violist Geraldine Walther of the famed Takacs String Quartet. Hear these virtuoso musicians performing masterpieces by Mozart, Schumann, Hindemith and Bruch. Free Admission.
The US Air Force’s Falconaires | 7:30 p.m. | Friday, February 5, 2016One of the U.S. Air Force’s premier jazz ensembles, the Falconaires has brought the great sounds of big band jazz to national audiences for more than 30 years. This group of 18 full-time jazz musicians specializes in the best of past, present, and future by performing traditional and contemporary big band jazz. The Air Force Academy Band’s Falconaires play a major role in cultivating our national heritage through its only indigenous musical genre, jazz. Free concert.
