Tickets have been selling briskly. Our goal was to sell 200 of them, and we are going to be close to reaching that num-ber, which repre-sents the largest profit we could make for our Lodge on this event. The first drawing for weekly prizes will be on Fri-day, May 9, and the Italian Buffet dinner is going to be on Friday, July 11. Re-member that we are giving away $1,000 in cash prizes!

The year 2016 has been another successful year for our great Geneva Lodge and that success can be attributed to the many volunteers who step up time and time again to do all of the big things, and the little things, that make for a successful organiza-tion.

2016 started off with a hard working Nominating Committee who had the task of selecting the first council of officers of the soon to be new Geneva Lodge, formed when the GAIL Lodge and Geneva Lodge members voted to merge the two lodges. The official merger took place in March, presided over by State President Carolyn Reres.

These past eleven months have seen the successful completion of all of our annual events such as the Lodge Awards Dinner in April, the Summer Italian Festi-val in August, Lodge Clambake in September, and a jam packed Italian Heritage and Culture Month in October. In between these important events were doz-ens of lodge dinners, family piz-za and wings nights, Monday wings, winter bocce league, summer bocce league, plus our weekly Sunday bingo. In be-tween all of these events, the lodge hosted and catered dozens of private parties and rentals throughout the year and ……. we still have a month to go that is packed with events.

None of the above could have been accomplished without a tremendous amount of volunteer help. From myself, our lodge council, and all of our member-ship, a sincere THANK YOU goes out to everyone who has volunteered some time to help our lodge this year.

Buon Natale,

Sam

Grand Lodge Lottery Calendars We have received our allotment of Lottery Calendars from our Grand Lodge and they are now on sale through our lodge office.

Each calendar has a three digit # from 000 through 999 imprinted on it. When you purchase a calen-dar that becomes your # for the year 2017. Cash prizes can be won every day of the year based on the evening drawing of the New York State Lottery.

This is an annual important fund-raiser for our Grand Lodge and we ask you to support it by pur-chasing one or more calendars. Each one cost $30. Call our office to reserve one before the end on the month. Christmas is coming and a calendar will make a great gift.

Days of Yore at Geneva Lodge - by Chuck Agonito

1982 - Venerable (President) John J. Greco was re-elected and installed by State Trustees Lou Giambra and Tony Camaro. Early in the year 1982 a Valentine’s Dance was held and the District 8 Bocce Tournament was hosted at the lodge. A euchre tournament held in conjunction with the bocce tournament drew 60 players and was won by lodge member Mario Pellegrine.

The April 17th Italian Night dinner featured lasagna alforno, veal scallopine, pasta fagioli, polenta, trippa, sausage, salad and a dessert - all for $7.50 per person.

Nineteen delegates attended the Grand Lodge Convention at the Concord Hotel and Resort, and the July Italian Festival was a huge success.

The Geneva Lodge purchased the former Prospect Ave. School building from the Geneva School District for $10, 500. Seventy five members attended the Aug. 12th meeting and voted to allocate funds for the remodeling of the vacant elementary school.

Let the Geneva Lodge help you keep alive a long held Christmas tradition among Italians of having fish on Christmas Eve.

Brother Jamie Kaim, Jr. is once again volunteering his time on Christmas Eve to cook and sell fish here at the lodge.

Fried Haddock, Fried Smelt, Butterfly Shrimp, and Calamari (in sauce) are available along with cannoli and crème puffs from

Lanovara Bakery.

See the insert for details on prices and how to place your orders.

Deadline to order is Dec. 13th

As this oppor-tunity came up very late, we apologize for not being able to get this infor-mation out to everyone in advance. For those of you who do receive this info before Dec. 2nd, we hope you can come out in support of this chari-table endeavor.

Email ???

Do we have your email address yet? If you did not receive a copy of this newsletter by email then that means we do not have your email address. Each month we send the newsletter out by email prior to sending it out through the post office. This gives all those who receive it through email a two or three day advantage on the information within, over those who only receive the print copy. In some cases the advantage is a week or more due to post office delays in delivery.

If you have email and would like to start receiving the newsletter by email, just sent me a note at : [email protected]. You can still opt to receive it by print also , in addition to the email copy, or can opt for just the email copy.
