Tips / undocumented functions:

- At the top of the main-menu and every folder, the keys 1 to 9 are shortcuts to the icons 1-9

- In standby-mode, press and hold 0 to launch your wap home page.

- To keep the backlight on, run Torch (freeware), press and hold the Menu button and gosomewhere else on the phone.

Menu quick access Over in the menu e.g. to point 3.1 arrive simply 31 enter (if the third symbola file is opened is for these and then in it started the first Programm/Icon).---------------------------------------------------------------------Autostart go around When switching on of the Handys on to the pin inquiry the key "ABC" (pin)comes the whole time keeps pressed - this is to ignore (allegedly) the autoinitializationprograms.------------------------------------------------------------------------# Do not switch between different lines (AS)... goes e.g. with Austrian ONE Handys (see nosecunning). I could not try out however also, since I did not have 2 lines on the SIM map.-------------------------------------------------------------------------12345 ... is according to standard set the Nokia nokia-Sicherheitscode.--------------------------------------------------------------------0000 ... is according to standard those (with Vodafone windshield frame section) set 2te pin andthat standard net code/passwordWith D1 the standard net code is the last 4 numbers of the card number without HLR e.g.99999234-5/55 - > 2345------------------------------------------------------------------------0 - for a long time press If one the "0" in the main menue for a long time presses thosehomepage of the standard WAP connection is called.------------------------------------------------------

Your files in MMC are stored in multiple (disk) blocks. So if you format using 16K block, the space used will be 16K eventhough your file is just 1K.

If you buy MMC, it is usually preformatted with 16K block. Therefore alot of space is wasted asmost installed program files are usually less than 2K.

You will need a card reader to do this:-

1. Connect card reader and copy all your files in the MMC to computer disk.(Make sure you set the show all/hidden/os files to "on")2. Do a format of the MMC using command line "format" and use the /A=size option.Alternative, you can use the Disk Management in Adminstrative Tools to format.Make sure you select FAT. For 256MB MMC, smallest block you can use is 4K, 128MB is 2K,64Mb is 1K and 32MB is 512B.

(Note: You cannot use the phone "format MMC" to do this as the format just clear the allocationtable and does not change the block size)

3. Copy back all files to MMC.

Now you will find that you will have more space.256mb MMC got back 30+ mbs..............................................................................................................................................................

Caution - starting from here the codes are " Very dangerous"

Note - If you bought your Nokia on UK Vodafone or UK Cellnet you do not need to check thisbecause they both transmit on GSM900, and they don't lock the phones. However if you boughtyour phone on UK Orange or UK One2one your phone may be blocked. The reason is that theyboth transmitt on GSM1800. To make a call on GSM1800 you need what is known as a "Dualband" phone. A dual band phone is able to transmit on both GSM900 and GSM1800, so theylock the phones so you can't use it with any other network simcard. If you find that your phone islocked you can try different software to unlock it. (we havn't found one that works yet), or youcan ask your service provider who will gladly exchange the 10 digit code for about £35.

This is how to check the status of the 4 different locks. Aslo don't try entering the wrong number, because after 3 times it will block the phone for good.

There are 4 different locks on your Nokia phone.

The code to read out the sim-lock status of your phone is

THE JAMES BOND TRICK

If you short-circuit theleft middle and right pins on the bottom of the phone with all connectionstouching each other, the Nokia software hangs! The profile "Headset" will be activated. Beforeyou do this just activate the "Automatic Answer" in the headset profile and set the ringingvolume to "Mute". Now you can use your phone for checking out what people are talking aboutin a room. Just place it under a table in a room and call it. The phone receives the call withoutringing and you can listen to what people are saying.-----------------------------------------------------Clock Stopping

*4720# Activates the Half Rate Codec, after the phone has been turned off. HRC producespoorer voice quality but gives your battery better stand-by times.#4720# Deactivates the Half Rate Codec, after the phone has been turned off.

Enhanced Full Rate will give you much better sound quality when you enable it. The new EFRcodec uses the ACELP compression technology. This technology allows for much great voicequality in the same number of bits as the older Full Rate codec. The older technology was calledLPC-RPE. Both operate at 13 kilobits, but you take up more space on the network, so they cancharge you more. Talk-time is reduced with about 5%

Half Rate will give you poorer voice quality, which gives the service provider the opportunity tohave more calls on the network, and you might get a lower charge from them. Will give you 30%longer talk-time.

Change Alpha TagThe alpha tag is the message that is displayed on your phone when in digital coverage. This isnormally transmitted by the network, but can be overidden to display a different tag. This is doneby creating a tag for a personal/residential zone in the phone, and setting this zone to have thesame settings as your normal carrier. So when the phone identifies the network system itbelieves it is in the personal/residential zone and displays the tag you have programmed.1) Enter programming mode of the phone by keying *3001#12345#2) Find out the ID of your operator by entering the NAM1 menu. Note the Home System IDsetting. (16387 on Rogers AT&T in Calgary)3) Scroll to and enter PSID/RSID lists (menu 7)4) Select P/RSID 15) Scroll to PSID/RSID and change the setting to 16) Scroll to Connected system ID and change the setting to the ID of your system (eg 16387)7) Scroll to Alpha Tag and enter the message you would like displayed.8) Scroll to Operator code (SOC) and enter coed for your provider such as 2050 for Rogers or2049 for AT&T9) Scroll to Country code and enter 302 for Rogers or 310 for AT&T10) Power cycle your phone and hopefully your message will be displayedNote: This has only been tested in Calgary on the Rogers AT&T network so may not work onother networks.

GSM Network Services Command StringsWhen various network functions are selected via the cellphone's menu using the keypad, thecellphone automatically generates the corresponding GSM network command string andtransmits it to the network. These commands can however be manually entered via the keypad.

Each command is prefixed with either one or two * or # characters as follows:** Register and Activate* Activate## De-Register (and Deactivate)# Deactivate*# Check Status© Call button------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Once each command has been entered, if it is a network command (as opposed to a localhandset command) it must be transmitted to the network by pressing the YES (receiver) keywhich acts as an enter key - this is represented here with the © character. Always enternumbers in full international format +CountryAreaNumber (e.g. +447712345678).

communications as the phone is now able to receive information such as share prices orweather updates without the need of data cards and computers. At present the followingmessage types exist (note: this may vary from carrier to carrier and some carriers may chargefor this service):

Code Title000 Index010 Flashes020 Hospitals022 Doctors024 Pharmacy030 Long Distant Road Reports032 Local Road Reports034 Taxis040 Weather050 District052 Network Information054 Operator Services056 Directory Inquiries (national)057 Directory Inquiries (international)058 Customer Care (national)059 Customer Care (international)

In the future one will be able to control each individual call by use of the following service codes. To do this the user has to insert the service code in front of the last # in the MMI commandabove.

For example the sequence *21*number*16# would divert all SMS calls (and only these) to thegiven number.
