HOW TO ENGAGE WITH NOCC?
The first step in students’ University Placement process is to engage with NOCC. The steps they could follow include:
• Take an appointment with NOCC for career counseling.
• This will then lead to several other appointments before the university placement process is complete.
• Choose your field of study.
• Pick the region of your choice. Meet with counselors for specific regions to help you with choice of universities.
• Finalize a list of universities in your region(s) of choice that suit your needs.
• Start applying. Fill in your online applications and manual forms. • Never hesitate to ask your counselor for help.
• Plan ahead so NOCC has enough time to respond to your queries and requests.
• Most importantly…Follow All Deadlines.

HOW TO ENGAGE WITH TEACHERS?
Approximately 8 weeks prior to the first application deadline, students will request their recommendations from their teachers. This will be done on the FUL between the 15th and 30th of August 2012. August 31st is the last date to submit the FUL to NOCC.SIX WEEKS before their first university application deadline, students remind teachers to write their recommendations.
UNIVERSITY RECOMMENDATION AND REFERENCE FORMS:All University reference forms should be submitted directly for teachers to complete. Students must allow a teacher ample time to complete their reference. E.g. FOUR WEEKS before the LUMS deadline, students submit the LUMS recommendation form to the teacher(s).
CODE OF CONDUCT:Be extremely polite and respectful when asking your teacher for a recommendation.Make sure you meet all deadlines so your recommendation completes in due time.It is the teachers’ decision to agree or disagree to write a recommendation if it is requested after the deadline. They are not expected to oblige to late requests.Make sure you ask for a recommendation from a teacher who knows you. Even if you are an A student but invisible in class, the teacher will probably not know you very well. Try to get a recommendation for a subject you are interested in studying at university.MOST IMPORTANT: Do not tell your teacher what to write in your recommendation. Let them evaluate you personally and write honestly.
NOTE: All references and recommendations are confidential documents and will not be revealed to the student under any circumstances.

SCHOLARSHIPS, BURSARIES & AWARDS
ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIPS:
They are available to full-time students entering university studies for the first time. Candidates are selected by Faculties/Schools in co-operation with the Financial Aid and Awards Office, and in certain cases, in co-operation with academic departments as well. Selection is automatic, based on academic ranking as assigned by the University in the course of admission file processing. Academic cut-offs are set by the Faculties/Schools during each admission cycle. For some Entrance Scholarships, selection is based on submission of a portfolio and/or other specific materials. Only selected candidates are notified. Each academic year, the Faculties/Schools will offer Entrance Scholarships to admission candidates with top academic ranking beginning in Spring, and the process will continue into the Summer.
In-Course Scholarships all require a minimum Last Annual GPA of 3.30, and are available to students who have completed at least one academic year of studies at University. Last Annual GPA is calculated and placed on students' records each Summer by the Office of the Registrar.
BURSARY:
A scholarship or charitable foundation in a university; a sum given to enable a student to pursue his studies.
Entrance Bursaries are available to students entering university studies for the first time. Entrance Bursaries require completion of an Entrance Bursary application form, which must be submitted along with various supporting documents directly to the Financial Aid and Awards Office. Eligibility is determined following a financial needs test, a review of the candidate's academic ranking as assigned during admission application processing.
International Student Tuition Bursaries are available to full-time Undergraduate Students who pay international student tuition rates. The International Student Tuition Bursaries are awarded on the basis of scholastic achievement, financial need and the applicant's personal statement.
AWARDS:
The Annual Student Awards and Recognition program was created to provide a venue for the college to recognize students who have excelled in a specific discipline and/or won prestigious college, regional and national awards.
NEXT
SCHOLARSHIPS, BURSARIES & AWARDS(cont.)
Awards may fall under the Entrance or In-Course rosters, be merit or need-based, and have one or more additional eligibility requirements such as a letter of intent or an applicant statement, contribution to student life at the University, a particular level of performance in a certain course, and so on. Most are restricted to students in particular degrees or concentrations, or who have particular qualifications. Academic requirements vary from award to award - from a minimum Last Annual GPA of 2.00 (Acceptable Academic Standing) to scholarship-level GPA of 3.30 and upwards.
The term "award" is also used generically when referring to scholarships or bursaries.
STUDENT LOANS:
A student loan is designed to help students pay for university tuition, books, and living expenses. It may differ from other types of loans in that the interest rate may be substantially lower and the repayment schedule may be deferred while the student is still in education. It also differs in many countries in the strict laws regulating re-negotiating and bankruptcy. Bookstore Line of Credit
A Bookstore Line of Credit can allow you to purchase the books and documents on your class book list and have the cost added to your student account at the University. To qualify, you must be receiving or have a confirmation of provincial, federal or state (U.S.) financial aid that is disbursed to the student by the University's Financial Aid and Awards Office (FAAO).
Students must see a Financial Aid Advisor for further information on eligibility requirements and conditions
Short-Term Advances / Emergency Loans
Limited funds are available at the Financial Aid and Awards Office for University students who are experiencing financial difficulties. Such advances are issued to full-time and part-time undergraduate and graduate students.
Students must see a Financial Aid Advisor for further information on eligibility requirements and conditions.
NEXT
SCHOLARSHIPS, BURSARIES & AWARDS(cont.)
WORK STUDY PLAN:
The work-study plan is designed to provide on-campus work experience for full-time students who require assistance in covering their education-related costs. The Work/Study Plan funds 75% of the salary (up to $1,000 max/term) of eligible students employed part-time in on-campus jobs.
Work-study jobs at University typically pay between $10 to $12 per hour. The maximum amount students are entitled to earn is $1,000 per 4-month term, including vacation pay and benefits.
It is recommended that students apply for a work/study position after they are on campus and have worked out their timetable for the term.
