Nashville Summer Magabook Team

The Louisville First magabook team, comprised of 15-20 academy age students worked the 10-week summer program June 5—August 11 in the greater Louisville area. They placed in homes nearly 5,000 books ranging from Health books to the Great Controversy, to Steps to Christ.

There was also a team of four Bible Workers. The student Bible Workers conducted an evangelistic series with 12 non-S.D.A.s attending every single night. There have been two baptisms already, with six more still attending church each Sabbath and three of those are specifically preparing for baptism and attending the baptismal classes. In addition, there are still 25-30 other home-based Bible stud-ies happening each week. These are being followed up with by Pastor Stewart Lozensky, several church members and the remaining Bible Worker.

Meanwhile, headquartered at the Bordeaux S.D.A. Church in Nashville, a much smaller team of Liter-ature Evangelists conducted a five week program, placing approximately 1,000 truth filled books in homes around east Nashville. They collected dozens of Bible study interests that have been turned over to Pastor Mike Foraker and the Bordeaux church members to follow up on. We are proud of the work all of these young people did despite the brutal heat and humidity that dogged their every step all summer. The Holy Spirit was also their constant companion, emboldening and enabling them as they sowed seeds of truth in the fertile soil of the KY/TN Conference.

Please remember to keep these Literature Evangelists, as well as our Adult Literature Evangelists in your prayers daily. Thank you.

Eight Steps to Knowing God’s Will by Morris Venden

The following eight steps are taken verbatim from the book by Morris L. Venden titled How to Know god’s Will in Your Life

1. No will of your own on the given matter. Your own will is in neutral. This does not mean you will have no preference, but that you are willing to go in whatever way God directs. This is only possi-ble for one who is involved in daily fellowship with God, for we cannot bring ourselves to surrender. God must do that for us. Jesus’ example in this is recorded in Matthew 16:39 and John 4:34.

2. Don’t go simply by feeling, in fact, you don’t go by any one single step. It is the combination of all eight of them together that is significant. But often there is the temptation to make your decision on the basis of feelings, so this is a warning. Don’t do it! (Although the Holy Spirit often leads through impressions upon the heart (see Isaiah 30:21), we should never make a decision on the ba-sis of feelings alone.

3. Study God’s Word to see what is revealed that may give direction on the present decision. God al-ways guides us through His Word, never contrary to it. See Psalms 119:105. There may not be spe-cific information on your particular decision, although there are often principles that apply. But you can always go to the Word for communication.

4. Consider providential circumstances. “Thou shalt remember all the way which the Lord thy God lead thee.” Deuteronomy 8:2. Look at God’s leading in the past and see how the current decision might fit into a pattern that has already been developing.

5. Consult with godly friends. This step I added to Mueller’s list. It’s found in Proverbs 11:14 and Psalm 1:1. Don’t consult with your ungodly friends! And once again, don’t make your entire deci-sion based on what your friends say. But put their counsel into your portfolio to help you come to a decision.

6. Ask God, in prayer, to reveal His will to you concerning the decision you are going to make. See James 1:5.

7. Make a decision! On the basis of what has gone before, in the first six steps, make a decision. Don’t wait for a sign or a bolt of lightning from heaven. Consider prayerfully the weight of evi-dence, and decide. And tell God what your decision is.

8. Proceed with your decision, inviting God to stop you if you have missed your signals. Then be sensi-tive to the swinging doors. God knows how to open and close doors. At times, you may find a door slammed in your face. I’ve had it happen on occasions. And it’s usually because I’ve missed it on step one. But even the apostle Paul found doors closing in his face at times. You can read about it in Acts 16: 6-9.
