more about the people whom they intend to serve throughout their entire life. ENGLISH CAMP - MADAKASIRA Our English camp began on 1st and closed on 15th May. Scholastics Jagadish, Johnson, Vishal and Sudheer reached Kadhirepalli St.Ann's English medium school on 1st May 2019. They taught the students grammar, vocabulary, vocal practice, communication soft skills and M.S Office. Nearly 80 students benefited from this camp. This camp enabled them to improve in their communications. ENGLISH CAMP - KATUKAPALLY Scholastics Praveen and Ashok reached Katukapally on 25th March and the community welcomed them joyfully. It was a tremendous experience to visit a place like Katukapally and teach tribal children. They taught English for 6th , 7th , 8th and 9th class students. They were privileged to get an opportunity to visit villages. It was indeed a touching experience to witness the living conditions of koya and Gothi koya tribals. Hospitality of the community was really commendable. Though students were of low regarding intellectual abilities, the scholastics gave their best in teaching them. They also took care of study hours in the evening. The camp came to an end with cultural program where in children were involved in performing programs in English. PARISH MINISTRY Place: Vinukonda. Date: 16-4-19 to 21-4-19. Members: Jagadeesh and Sunit. On 16th of April Jagadeesh and I reached Vinukonda parish for our Easter Ministry. We both were accommodated in the parish house itself. We accompanied Fr. Matthew Neerakkel to various sub-stations every evening to participate in the Way of the Cross. We were inspired witnessing the faith of the parishioners by the way they got involved in the prayer services. We were given ample time to pray and reflect on our works through the Eucharist and Examination of Conscience.

DARSI PARISH It was a wonderful opportunity for three of us (Pavan, Vishal, Lavanya kumar) to be a part of Darsi community for our Easter Ministry. We reached Darsi on 15th April and stayed there for one week. Fr Augustine was In-charge of our ministry. On 16th we went to Ramanareddy palem, one of the sub-stations of Darsi parish. We stayed in the church and began our ministry. With the help of some parishioners we cleaned the church and its surroundings, removing the old decorations inside and outside the church. This ministry helped us to learn many things especially about the order of liturgy during the feast days. We were happy to mingle with the people and to listen to their experiences of joys and sorrows. TRIBAL CAMPS (SEETHAMPETA) Schs. Sudheer, Rex Kumar, Abhinay and Pradeep reached Seethampeta on 6th April and Fr. Amar S.J, the superior provided us with good accommodation. Fr. Selvin S.J gave us the necessary details to proceed ahead in collecting data from the Savara tribals, for his doctoral studies. It was a great opportunity for us to know the lifestyle of Savara tribals and to share our immense joy with them. We spent long hours in discussion with the people and came to realize the several crooked ways of cheating and violence done to them by the outsiders, the so called ‘literates’. In this process, we visited six villages and collected good amount of data from sixty to seventy tribal families. To put it in a nut shell, our stay at Seethampeta made us aware of the deplorable conditions of the tribes. We sincerely thank Fr. P.C.F and Fr. Selvin for this great opportunity given to us. K.D.PETA We, the Schs. Pallamraju , Paul pradeep and Vincent reached K.D.Peta on 29th April 2019. We were missioned with teaching English Grammar to the St. Anne’s English medium high school staff and to satellite school teachers in tribal villages. Totally there were 30 teaching staff. We had also exposure to the tribal villages. Above all, we have learnt three predominant qualities from these simple and

humble tribal people. First, their simple life style with the minimum facilities reminding us of the vow of poverty, second, their eagerness to learn English pushed us forward to prepare well and teach 5 hours a day, third, their tremendous respect and special devotion towards nature taught us to care for our mother earth. SLUM MINISTRY AT CITRA Scholastics Donald, Poul Raj, Naresh and Johnson began the slum ministry at CITRA on 7th April, 2019 with the few instructions given by Fr. Jayaseelan S.J. We involved ourselves in house visiting, household survey, a study on their living conditions, data collection of children from the class 6th to 12th both boys and girls to form children’s parliament in the near future and career guidance to the students at Chandra Babu Nagar, Lalapet. We also visited some slum areas [Chatri, etc.,] run by MSI Brothers. V.R.O CAMP - 2019 Scholastics, C. H. Naresh, E. Naveen, Lavanya, Pavan, Sunit, went for V.R.O camp. We began our work on 2nd May, 2019. Our main work in the camp was to separate the library books from V.R.O archives, dust the books and prepare very good and standered library. We worked there along with the V.R.O volunteers. We stayed at Anandajyothi retreat centre at Pedakakani. Fr Peter Daniel, the Director of V.R.O, guided us. We were inspired and motivated by the V.R.O ministry and by the Director’s address about his work and personal experience in the organization. We also learnt typing as well as managing skills. We had enriching experience with the V.R.O volunteers. TRAINING IN SKILLS: INNER CHILD HEALING Scholastics Ashok Kumar, Narendra and Santhosh attended the camp from 22nd April to 28th April. Altogether we were 150 attending the course. There were Nuns from different congregations, Priests, laity and children. The Course was systematically planned and initial ice- breaking session provided necessary impetus for the whole course. Inward journey was extremely helpful and we could understand

many things related to our childhood. Frs. Wilson Suresh and a few Capuchin priests were our resource persons. Creativity was at its best during this course. Practical sessions were simple and helped us in healing our childhood wounds. SUMMER CAMP OF FIRST YEAR THEOLOGIANS: We the first year theologians Sch. Augustine, Peter and Saji attended various programs during summer which enriched our theological studies. Sch. Bulla Peter and Sch. Saji conducted a catechetical and English camp for the tribal children in Seethampeta. In a week’s time we trained them in faith and English language. Our theological studies helped us to shape these little ones systematically. HOMELITICS We have learnt through Homiletics course- how to give homilies on weekdays, ordinary Sundays, feast days of saints, novenas, etc. Our main focus was on ordinary Sunday homilies. We also learned how to ease the tension of preaching by preparing ahead of time and keep chewing it throughout the week. Voice culture, easement of the face muscles, strengthening our voice and so on were also part of the course. It also helped us to develop our own style of preaching. - ASEERVADAM -( Scribes Committee ) SANJEEVAN NIWAS: By 1st June 2019, we the scholastics returned to Sanjeevan after having rejuvenated spiritually by the annual retreat at Krishnapuram. We were overjoyed to receive eight new scholastics to our community this year, of which five belong to our province and three to Hazaribag. We have one more new scholastic joining our community namely Vidya Sagar who will be doing his Engineering studies. We welcomed Fr Marianna joyfully to our community after completing his course on ‘Roots and Wings’ at Shembaganur. Our house, which wore old and dusty look, was thoroughly cleaned by us and now it is pleasant to live in. The second year scholastics resumed their classes on 10th June whereas the first years started off their classes from 14th June. New service team took over the responsibilities on

14th June for the smooth functioning of the house. We celebrated Sch. Pradeep’s birthday on 15th June with a solemn Eucharistic celebration. On 21st June, we successfully lead the choir in Ananda Jyothi Novitiate for the vows day. Fr Marianna started meeting the scholastics from 23rd June for the spiritual direction. Similarly, Fr Rayappa is busy teaching in his department while he is caring for the needs of the Sanjeevan community. Currently the atmosphere in Sanjeevan is quite conducive with the arrival of new members to the community. Eventually, the scholastics are gearing up gradually to develop their skills in the academic field and acquire lots of knowledge for their future ministries. -DOMINIC SITAGARHA, HAZARIBAG: Frs.Bala and Anil reached Ranchi city safe and sound on 7th June. We were quite edified by the hospitality, extended by St.Xaviers’ college community for a couple of days. The community was also kind enough to take us to various parishes, Jesuit communities, formation houses and individual Jesuit families. Both of us got a feel of the mission in Ranchi province. The inaugural session for 2019-18 was held on 10th June and Fr. Sunil Kujur, the Hazaribag provincial presided over the ceremony. We embarked upon journeying slowly and steadily into the tertianship, the school of the heart. Having completed the first week, we begin to realise that we gradually move away from long periods of dryness and emptiness to affectivity, meaningfulness and enthusiasm. We, twenty-four tertians from seventeen provinces this year, started engaging ourselves in spiritual and corporal pursuits according to one’s own need for growth in maturity. This means that the non-negotiable aspect of certain exercises pave way for our grace-filled experiences. Three-day sharing of our graced history with one another aided us how God has been accompanying us to nurture our vocation to the Society of Jesus. The whole community of tertians had one day Hazaribag darshan on 15th June. Daily Eucharist ministry and sharing knowledge and skills in various fields like Mariology, Eucharist, spoken

English, music, Vatican documents etc, started to fifteen various formation as well as apostolic centres on the campus and off the campus took off from 17th June onwards. We soon commence our long retreat in the light of sapiential readings, followed by retreat and experiment ministry. We request your prayers for effective utilisation of this final phase of significant formation. - B.BALA KUMAR PROVINCE ARCHIVES: Fr. Provincial had initiated a process of restructuring and rearranging of the Province Archives in the month of January 2019. For this purpose Fr.Provincial appointed Fr. Dusi Ravi Sekhar and Pre-novice Velankanni. The work of classification of all the files and rearranging them according to the newly-designed filing system is complete. Fr. Provincial blessed the newly erected racking system of the archives of our Province on 3rd June, 2019. We sincerely thank Fr.Dusi Ravi Sekhar and Velankanni for the hard work they had put in rearranging the archives during the last four months. Enough space has been created now to preserve the essential files of the province like: 1. Essential and relevant documents (hostoria domus, institutional or community related documents which need safe preservation or protection) 2. Publications (books, annual magazines etc. authored by Province Jesuits or institutions), 3. Productions (audio and video productions by Province Jesuits), 4. Any form of artifacts 5. Ph. D. (Doctoral) Thesis 6. Photographs or photo albums of significant events Kindly make sure that you send these items to the Socius (at least two copies) especially the publications and productions at the earliest. The future generations will be privileged to see the rich treasures of our Province if we succeed in preserving all of them. I will be extremely grateful if everyone concerned takes an interest and does the needful. - Socius

PILGRIMAGE TO HOLY LAND - MAY 10-19, 2019

We, Brothers Bogue Arockiaraj, Thomas Bellarmine and Xavier Amal started our pilgrimage from RGIA – HYD on 10th morning along with 20 sisters, 5 priests, and 6 family members (Total 42) by Ammen Airways to Ammen. On the 2nd day we proceeded to Mt. NEBO, the site of Moses’ death and the ancient church at the top and visited the Christian town of Madaba. The Nebo mount is 1100 feet above the sea level. Then we visited the Dead Sea and some of us took bath there and tasted the water. We also visited Jericho, sycamore tree, Elijah’s spring and the Mount of Temptation, Bethany, Shepherd’s Field and had a Holy Mass. Also we visited the Church of Nativity and the Milk Grotto and the house of Martha, Maria and Lazarus. The tomb of Lazarus was closed due to some reasons and so we could not visit it.

The 4th day was an important day for all of us. Really we enjoyed visiting the Wailing Wall and prayed there for all those who do not believe in the Lord to get converted and believe in the Lord. We also went to Mt. Olives , the place of Our Father, Ascension hill, Gethsemane, St. Anne and pool of Bethesda, Holy Sepulcher, the Church of the Visitation and St. John the Baptist. We had the chance of celebrating the Holy Mass in Gethsemane garden and experienced the blessing of the suffering Lord. On the 5th day we went to the Sea of Galilee and had a boat ride. We had the feeling that Jesus also was travelling with us. From there we saw the village of caphernaum. Also we paid a visit

to the place where Jesus called Peter and others as his first disciples. Then our visit was to the Mt. Beatitudes and we had a dip in river Jordan and we renewed our Baptismal vows again with the Lord. After that we drove to Mt. Tabor, 3000 feet high, where Jesus was transfigured, had dialogue with Moses and Elijah in front of his apostles. On the 6th day we visited the church of Annunciation, Mary’s well, Cana wedding Church, Mt. Carmel Stella Maris monastery etc., In the Annunciation Church there is a small cave where Mother Mary had a vision and received the Good news from the Lord, to bear His Son in her womb and become the blessed woman among all women in the world and accepted the God’s will saying ‘YES’ to the Lord. Then we started our journey to Egypt to witness the places of Moses’ well, Mount Sinah, the Burning Bush and the place where he received the Ten Commandments, and the house of the Holy Family. We visited also Jordon, Palestine, Israel, and Egypt. During these days we not only visited the above mentioned holy places but had personal experience of the Lord and spiritual conversation with him. This is not only a pilgrimage to the Holy Land but also having experience of intimate Joy, suffering, as we had the feeling of traveling with the Lord and also the Lord traveling with all of us. It was really an inner spiritual experience for us. A lot of people from all over the world visit these Holy and Historical places of Our Lord and Mother Mary.

We thank our Provincial Fr. P.S. Amalraj, for allowing us to visit these Holy Places and to have an immense and intimate experience with the Lord. We thank all our concerned Superiors and the members who supported us in all ways, especially through their prayers. We came back to our communities with the renewed spirit to serve Our Lord and Master Jesus Christ. - Bro. M. XAVIER AMAL THARA: During the summer about hundred boys along with the staff went on a tour to Kolkata, Darjeeling, Sikkim and Nepal (7thMay to 18th May). It was a memorable one. We started with a meaningful Eucharist at Mother Teresa’s tomb in Kolkata. Fr Benny Thomas SJ, Principal of St Xavier’s School invited us to join their celebration of Rabindranath Tagore’s birthday. Our boys performed two patriotic dances on this occasion. Then we visited museum, zoo, Victoria memorial, Kali temple, Howrah Bridge etc., we also visited Loreto college, Dhyanasram and the Jesuit institute of Classical dances started by Fr Saju George SJ.

In Darjeeling we visited the Museum, zoo, Rock garden, Tea garden, Tibetan monastery, Gorkha war memorial etc. Thanks to Fr Benoy Lama SJ for making our stay very comfortable at Sacred Heart Church, North Point. We are also grateful to Br Vincent SJ and Fr Stan SJ for making all the necessary arrangements during our stay in Darjeeling. We also extend our thanks to Fr Peter SJ for all the arrangements made during our stay in Kolkata. At the end we also enjoyed

the Himalayan sceneries of Sikkim and Nepal. Nature bestowed on us its beauty and wonder. All the nine students who have appeared for the SSC examinations have passed. While three of them have joined Loyola Academy Junior College, the others have joined a private junior college. Among those who have taken open tenth, fifteen of them are getting ready for their respective vocational courses. Thirty five students are studying in Private schools (EM) and fifty students are studying in Government schools. We are grateful to our Province for generously providing us with a much needed Mini Truck which we are using regularly and effectively. LITDS, KD PETA The hot summer and its unfriendly affects brought a great deal of summer sunshine more than ever. The experience of our scholastics could have made them suffer during the tribal camp. Fr. Elias took lot of efforts to get the three buses F.C s. As the expectation of the parents grew more and more, the school has taken all the means to canvass. We hope to get many children this year. The teachers are oriented to Jesuit pedagogy. We all learnt to speak English and started to work regularly. The tribal leaders cadre building by Frs. Paul and director Elias went on well for 3days. All the cadres felt happy to empower themselves with the help of Mr.Karunakara and Pentaiah. We also helped our small catholic community to grow in faith and Christian life. Hope to respond well to the present changes of our tribal culture and values holding high our priority and concern for Nature. – SIMON
