Week 3 Friday 23 September 2016

Lord God, no one is a stranger to you and no one is ever far from your loving care. A reading from the letter of saint Paul to the Philippians 4:6-7

Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything; tell God your needs, and don't forget to thank Him for His

answers. If you do this, you will experience God's peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace will keep your thoughts and your hearts quiet and at rest as you trust in Christ.

To our Graduating Year Twelve Class of 2016…

We pray that their journey, with all its ups and downs, twists and turns, will be joyful. We pray that they will always sense that the Lord is near them, that the peace of God who is beyond our understanding will guard their hearts and

thoughts in Jesus Christ.

Amen

PASTORAL CARE NEWS

Today Kellie Smith on behalf of NEEDY

PAWS visited MCC to collect donations of

canned and dry food which had generously

been donated as part of the COMMUNITY

ACTION TEAM’s charity drive. The team

was overwhelmed with the response and

support for the activity which was evident

with the substantial amount of food donated

as well as $750. NEEDY PAWS were

extremely appreciative and thanked all who

contributed. The donations will provide vital

assistance for this group which relies completely on donations and the kindness of others.

This week we also said “Goodbye” to our year12 students and I would like to wish them the

very best that life has to offer. Remember as exam time draws nearer that stress levels may

rise so please keep in mind our simple motto of “Eat well, Sleep well, Live well”.

I hope that everyone has a safe and happy holiday. Term 4 promises to be busy and both

the COMMUNITY ACTION TEAM and the Year 11 SOCIAL & WELL BEING

COMMITTEE have lots of exciting things planned ensuring that there is a healthy balance

between learning and having fun.

Kindest regards,

Sue Hone (Pastoral Care Worker)

Year 7 will be going for a trip to Altina Park on 20th or 24

th October. Could student please have their money to the

office by Friday 14th October. This supports their study of classification of living things that they will study in Term III.

The Science Department at Marian Catholic College won a $1000 voucher from Altina to spend at a local IT store. This will certainly improve the technology that we are able to offer for the students to use as they explore.

Student Laptops

Dear Parents,

When students were issued with their laptops, it was part of the agreement that students would carry them to and from their classes and the College in their Laptop Bags. A number of students are not using their bags and we are doing our best during school hours to remind the students around this part if their agreement.

Laptops may be confiscated from the students until the protective case is brought in. This may hinder the learning of the student.

If they are dropped and broken, or end up with cracked screens, parents and/or students are liable to pay for the damage to have it repaired or replaced. We are constantly undertaking a number of repairs due to the protective case not being used. There are also repairs due to how students are mishandling their laptops – such as leaving headphones or pens on the keyboard when closing the lid, which in turn leads to screen breakages.

We are asking for parents help in reminding your child about the importance of carrying the laptop in the correct protective bag to and from their classes and the College, and in how they handle the device. The last thing we want is for families having to pay for repairs or replacements due to students not doing the right thing.

We have also amended the policy to allow for the use of school backpacks, as long as they have a padded laptop section within the bag where the laptop can be stored.

Lockers are also available for hire from the office where students can safely store them during lunch and recess so they don’t have to worry about carrying them around. Your help in reminding students about this part of the agreement would be greatly appreciated.

Griffith District Schools

Soccer Cup On Tuesday 20 September, at Ted Scobie Oval, Marian Catholic College, Wade High School and Griffith High School met to decide the winner of the Griffith District Cup. This competition was designed to provide an opportunity for talented Year 7 Soccer students from the three local high schools to compete in their own age level.

The Cup was decided as a gala day where each school played each other on a points score competition. The top two teams would then play in the final to decide the winner of the Griffith District Cup.

All six games were competitive, with each of the games exhibiting good individual skill and team work. I was particularly pleased with the sportsmanship displayed, with students happily mixing between the three High Schools before and after the games.

Marian and Wade were both through to the final in the boys and girls competitions, with Marian finishing the day as victors in both finals, cementing our dominance in soccer not just locally but in the Riverina in 2016.

I would like to congratulate all students on their behavior and sportsmanship on the day, and I look forward to next

year’s competition.

This term Year 9 have been learning about Children and play. Within this

unit the girls have learnt how play can support inclusion and provide

opportunities for children to build and contribute to cohesive groups. Their

assessment task for this unit was to design and construct a toy that would
