The Ocean Cleanup THE LARGEST CLEANUP IN HISTORY

OVER 5 TRILLION PIECES OF PLASTIC CURRENTLY LITTER THE OCEAN Trash accumulates in 5 ocean garbage patches, the largest one being the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, located between Hawaii and California. If left to circulate, the plastic will impact our ecosystems, health and economies. Solving it requires a combination of closing the source, and cleaning up what has already accumulated in the ocean.

NNZ, sponsor for the river project THE LARGEST CLEANUP IN HISTORY

The Ocean Cleanup has invented a system to clear rivers of plastics before they flow out into the ocean. The system thus helps reducing the emission of plastic waste into our oceans. NNZ has developed an FIBC that is perfectly geared to the river cleanup system invented by The Ocean Cleanup. The FIBC is placed in a carrousel collecting floating plastics. When the FIBC is full, it is placed on land and is subsequently transported to a recycling plant or to a landfill. Expectations are that, after the start-up year, NNZ will be supplying about 25,000 FIBC’s per year. The river cleanup system will be deployed in countries with economies largely relying on manual labor. Our river cleanup FIBC is designed to meet the specific needs of this kind of waste. The river cleanup system fully operates on energy drawn from nature. NNZ is proud to be able to support this great project by supplying the FIBC’s. Facts & figures: • Start-up phase in Asia: June 2018. • Number of FIBCs per day: 70 (after test phase in Asia). • NNZ sponsoring 25,000 FIBC’s. Apart from supporting the river cleanup project, we also support The Ocean Cleanup with offshore FIBC’s. This project is still in the initial phase.
