1960: the Queen visits Chilton

Bob Flook kindly sent us this photograph of Her Majesty passing through Chilton in 1960.“The photo was taken by my wife Jean, who had never taken a photo before, so I believe that she did very well under the circumstances,” said Bob. “I thought it may bring back memories to some of the older readers,” he said.If any readers have attended a Jubilee Party and would like to send us your stories and pho-tographs, we will include as many as possible in next week’s issue of The Chapter. Email your submissions to [email protected], call in or post to our office (see address, front page) or drop them off at the library. The deadline is noon on Monday, 11th June.

Ferryhill Town Council has organised for ‘Animal Story’ to visit Ferryhill Library on Thursday 7th June, between 2pm and 3pm. Animal Story offer excep-tional animal presenta-tions, animal handling workshops, animal encounters and animal displays for everyone. The talks encourage an interest in wildlife and the

The key to tackling anti-social behaviourPeople living in Ferryhill have been handed the keys to new security gates which have been installed to help tackle antisocial behaviour. Homes and communities organisation, livin, led the project in Brancepeth Road after receiving complaints of antisocial behaviour from residents living in the area. In partnership with the police, repairs and main-tenance partner Mears and the Local Multi-agency Problem Solving Group (LMAPS) over £8,000 was secured to fund the instil-lation of the new security fencing and gates and replace broken-down fencing to the rear of the shopping parade. Neil Hobson, support and intervention team leader, for livin, said: “People were gathering on a night at the rear of the shopping parade causing disturbanc-es to residents. “After receiving a series of complaints we contacted the police and discovered it was an antisocial behaviour hotspot and took immediate action to tackle the problem.

“The fencing and gates have been erected around the whole of the rear of the shops and will provide security to the shops and safety for residents living above.” Beverly Harvey, resident, said: “We’re just like any

other family we want a quiet, peaceful life. We’ve seen a huge improvement since the fence went up, people are no longer gathering next to the flats. It used to be quite intimidating leaving your front door but now it’s much better.”

Neil Hobson, Support and Intervention Team Leader for livin, handing the keys to the gate to residents, Beverly Harvey and Chris Young, supported maintenance partner, Mears, and the Local Multi-agency Problem Solving Group.
