See you at the Gazebo this Thursday, August 16th! As part of our ongoing celebration of the Feast of St. Thomas More, we will welcome the Revive Ministries Band to play, sing and witness this Thursday evening at Gazebo Park. You are invited to bring beach chairs, blankets drinks and snacks and make your way there by 7 PM. A fire will be lit nearby to enhance our won “Water – Fire” except that ours will focus on living our Baptismal life (water) and praying guided by the Holy Spirit (fire). It is not the norm these days in this part of the world for Catholics to pray together outside of the Holy Mass for us the source and summit of our intimacy with God. In many cultures and more Catholic countries processions, pilgrimages and public prayer are the norm. Here at St. Thomas More, our Feast was instituted 11 years ago and has occasioned us to have processions, special masses and in the last several years communal public prayer. Revive Ministries is comprised of six musicians and members, including our own youth minister Emily Cuellar who hail from St. Patrick Parish in Providence. I would ask and suggest you invite friends, neighbors and family. It is an occasion to invite a lapsed or non-practicing Catholic or someone who is of no faith or confused as to their spiritual path and journey. Let’s ask the Holy Spirit to come down and fill us with the Lords’ love, to bless all who live and visit beautiful South County created by the Lord and shared with us. Let us invoke St. Thomas More patron of those in public service, judges and lawyers as our nation mulls a Supreme Court nominee hopefully sensitive to religious freedom and the right to life. See you at the gazebo!

Fr. Taillon

Men’s Bible Study Our parish has a very active group of men, who for more than 16 years, have met each Saturday at 7:30AM in a "round table" format to discuss the Sunday scripture readings. It is very informal and attended by some scholarly and not-so-scholarly folks. It’s rewarding and even some fun. Bring your coffee and come on over to St. Thomas More parish hall!

Pray the Rosary The rosary is prayed each weekday after the 9:00AM Mass at St Thomas More and for the special intention of peace in the world and on Saturday mornings at 8:30AM before Mass. Please join us, when ever you are available.

Strengthened by the Bread of Life Today we resume the "Bread of Life" discourse from John's Gospel that began two weeks ago. He makes reference to the Jews' ancestors who ate manna in the desert. These days we would think primarily of Israel wandering in the desert, but faithful Jews would also have known the story of Elijah that we hear today. Strengthened by food and drink in the desert, the angel of the Lord sends him on his forty-day and forty-night journey (the biblical number for a preparation time). Like the food given to Elijah in the desert, Jesus tells his listeners that he is bread for the life of the world. It is very important that we not stop listening to Jesus after his promise of eternal life--a marvelous promise, but this "reward" is not the only reason we feast on the Bread of Life. We also come to the table to be made strong for the journey of mission, that the whole world might have life in the fullness of Christ. We are compelled, if we have eaten of the bread of life, to go forth in service to all.
