Honor Society Week
This week is Honor Society week!
Every year in November, chapters are encouraged to celebrate Honor Society Week in their schools and communities. The purpose of the week is to help draw attention to the good work that our chapter is doing every year.
The National Honor Society is the nation's organization established to recognize outstanding high school and middle school students. More than just an honor roll in most schools, NHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, Citizenship and Character.
Values of NHS adapted from www.nhs.us
SCHOLARSHIP
The National Association of Secondary School Principals has awarded the NHS Scholarships since 1946, providing more than $10 million in scholarships to outstanding NHS members.
LEADERSHIP
Leadership is not about being elected or appointed to an office. Leadership is an attitude cultivated over time. Are you one to stand up for what you believe in and 'face the music' even when that music happens to be unpleasant? Do you have a purpose and follow that purpose to get the ends you desire? Do you have a vision? These are all questions that true leaders answer in the affirmative.
Values of NHSSERVICE
Community service as a view of helping other people and animals in the world not as a view to end something. It’s the ability to see the help of servicing someone in need.
CITIZENSHIP
Citizenship is about doing the right things and taking the pains to do it. Choosing to help instead of harm choosing to be mannered. Citizenship is all about choosing the correct path at the fork in the road.

This Wednesday is Veterans Day in the U.S. and Remembrance Day in Canada. As part of Honor Society Week, the NHS students would like to join the school in celebrating veterans all over the world.
Tuesday, students in grades 7-12 are invited to join NHS in celebrating and remembering our veterans. Please participate in our MyLaurelSprings blog about Veteran’s Day by creating a poem or short story, or creating lyrics to a song, based on Veterans day. You might even have a personal experience with a veteran in your life that you wish to share. We look forward to reading what you have to say.
For students in grades K-6, please visit the following sites for special activities to celebrate Veteran’s Day.
