THE OFFICIAL MAGAZINE OF
NEUMONT UNIVERSITY CELEBRATING TECH,
ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE, AND STUDENT LIFE.
Ryan Miller’s “Kinesthetic Mentor” could help you get the moves like Jagger. The program
uses an Xbox Kinect to record and mimic movement. The application can also be used for
fitness or physical therapy. The Beaumont, California native says he came to Neumont
because of the hands-on, project-based approach to learning. “The accelerated program
was a huge plus,” he says. With a job as a QA Analyst at AtTask, Ryan says he’s extremely
excited about what the future holds.
Capstone Projects are required individual projects that students conceive, build, and present to their peers. The experience helps
students transition from carefully directed learning experiences to team-based, supervised Enterprise Projects. Students learn
to solve problems, rely on themselves, improve their time-management skills, and increase their technical know-how.

Blake Bishop came to Neumont because the accelerated program
would allow him to get a job faster to support his growing family.
His Capstone Project was created in collaboration with his
wife, who is an interior designer. Fox Grove Interiors is a web
application that connects interior designers to clients—making
professional design more aordable and accessible.
It looks like a Jedi mind trick. But Eric Carlson has created a program
that allows him to drive a toy race car by thinking about it.
His program uses an electroencephalogram to read brain activity.
He admits driving the car takes a lot of concentration
and eort. However, he recently took his brainwaves
to the airwaves for a live radio broadcast. Eric
“drove” the car o a table much to the delight of
the radio hosts and students attending the event.
Neumont University Senior Giovanni Thomas prefers to go by Gio. And while
many of this Denver-ite’s colleagues are improving their people skills, Gio is at
ease speaking to a crowd of people. So it’s fitting that his DJ ChopShop is an
application that makes a DJ out of anybody. His multipurpose interface can
create and manipulate .wav files. The “chop” function allows the user to take
out any part of any sound and save it as a dierent file. Meanwhile, the DJ
interface allows users to mix beats and sounds into a new song.

Each quarter, a team of Neumont University students present
their code to the software developers at Towers Watson through
our Enterprise Project partnership. Seniors are assigned to
dierent teams within Towers Watson and spend up to 20 hours
a week completing a development project during their final year.
The Director of Quality Assurance and a vice president from
Towers Watson frequently mentor students through a project.
Enterprise Projects are key to Neumont’s curriculum
and integral to graduates’ success as they transition from
college to professional life. These projects are a proving
ground, where students take their classroom learning
into the real world, adding to their portfolios.
Throughout their senior year, students are guided through
their Enterprise Projects by Career Services Manager
Jayson Beagley. He provides instruction on career
development, including résumé and cover letter writing,
interviewing, and networking.
“We [Towers Watson] rely heavily on Neumont to educate skilled developers. We know exactly what to expect from them, and we don’t have to wash away any bad practices. They’re passionate about their work. They’re intelligent, and they’re going to be awesome.”
“Enterprise Projects have been a great experience for us. We’ve hired quite a few Neumont graduates. They have been very self-motivated, and they’re comfortable asking the right questions. They’ve all come from the Enterprise Projects, so they’re all familiar with our business and can hit the ground running.”
“The Neumont Enterprise Project partnership with Towers Watson provides an opportunity for our students to experience a top-notch professional IT environment that often results in lucrative employment for Neumont graduates. In addition to learning technical skills and professionalism, students are building their professional network.”

Neumont Alum Lyle Cox left his corporate job and created the indie video
game, Together: Amna & Saif. Under Lyle's leadership, the game successfully
raised more than $14,000 through Kickstarter.
Unlike most multiplayer or network games that have participants spread across
the globe, Together’s objective is to create an environment that demands two
players work together while playing on the same console.
Another key to the game’s success is the extra eort Lyle and his team have taken
to make the game accessible. Lyle says the colors used in the game were selected
for people with color blindness. Controls are kept simple to be accessible to as many
people as possible. (The game can be played with one hand.) Plus, there are optional
objectives that even avid gamers will find challenging.

Matthew Fajardo has always liked computers. Long before
he had even graduated from high school, Matthew knew
he wanted a career in computer science. He wanted to get
working in the field as soon as possible. “I like to get
through things fast,” he says, describing his decision
to attend Neumont.
Here, he found a university that could deliver both an
education and a career. When his father Mark Fajardo
heard about Neumont University, he knew it was the
right choice – even though it meant his son would
move from California to Utah. He’s proud of his
son’s recent graduation and new career.

“Neumont is an investment, but it was also worth every penny. It was a life-changing experience for my son. The entire experience was wonderful.”

“The couch co-op lends itself to a bonding experience,” Lyle says, which often includes a high-five between participants. Unlike most co-op games, “You can’t do anything on your own. You need each other to progress.”

expectation for any university that I would
ever have had the privilege of sending
my kids to. (And they could have gone
anywhere.) Neumont found Tim, and he
has thoroughly loved it. I'm proud he
picked Neumont as the place to launch
his career. Five stars from me.”
“What I like about Neumont is how the school
places the needs of the student first. Advocates
provide guidance for the students and an open
and direct line of communication for parents,
which is very much appreciated. I am so happy
my son heard from and about Neumont. He’s
thrilled with the school, and so am I.”

At Neumont University, students graduate in just 3 years by attending school year-round. Our accredited, computer
science focused degrees give graduates the skills they need to work in the fast-paced tech industry.
This software engineering
program balances skills with
theory. Students develop
software using integrated
environments and modern
languages.
In the BSGD program,
students learn all aspects
of game development
for PCs, consoles, and
handhelds, including design,
programming, AI, animation,
and project management.
Students in the BSIS
program learn how to
design, build, and maintain
complex networks at the
enterprise level.
The BSTM program is
an IT management degree
designed to hit the sweet
spot between information
technology and business
management.
The BSWD is a hybrid
program that combines
the art of web design
with the science of web
development.
