What are the Next Generation Science Standards? What are SEPs, CCCs, DCIs, and PEs? How do I implement NGSS into our curriculum? Where do I even begin? Chris Embry Mohr, Next Generation Science Standards Life Science Team writer and teacher will provide an overview of the new science standards by engaging the audience in Scientific and Engineering Practices, Cross Cutting Concepts, Disciplinary Core Ideas, and Performance Expectations. Ms. Mohr will share what NGSS looks like in the classroom, discuss several conceptual shifts, and will challenge participants to build capacity within their own districts as they take small steps in designing and implementing a plan that supports the true intent of the Framework for K-12 Science Education and the Next Generation Science Standards. Participants will need to either download or obtain copies of both the Framework for K-12 Science Education and the Next Generation Science Standards. The Framework can be downloaded from the National Academies Press (www.nap.edu free sign-up is required to download the free pdf file). The standards can be downloaded at www.nextgenscience.org.
