Linkage – a no-brainer

• Three levels proposed:– Manual with guidance only, as in NBS Engineering

Services – subscribers expect MORE … – Smart tags for common actions, an ignorable version

of ….– Enforced, strict control, for BIM integrity, e.g. will not

permit orphan clauses.

Table J: Work sections• Current CAWS is deficient in all sorts of ways …

– New technology, e.g. ETFE foil roofs.– Package contracting, e.g. Fire door sets.– Flexibility, e.g. contiguous splitting of M50.– Design-build procurement – systems/elements needed,

as in NBS Engineering Services.– Users, e.g. architectural/utilitarian/landscape signage.– Consistency, within building fabric groups & with

services groups.– Estimating – systems/elements again.– Facility management – a new ‘trade’.– Ignores civil and process engineering.

Builders’ tools

• Tender: Outline report, Tendering collected, Contract annexures collected, easy disassembly for s/c tenderers.

• Mobilisation: Builders’ prelims collected, smaller sections, easy disassembly for s/c packaging.

• Execution: Variety of reports, e.g. contractor design, systems; General technical material collected, easy disassembly for sub-s/c, links to CIS etc.

• Completion: Variety of reports, e.g. spares.

Page 32: Next Generation NBS John Gelder NBS Content development manager ICIS Berlin: June 2008

Record specification

• Converts contract product clauses to 100% proprietary, for brands actually used in the project. Contract spec may have had a generic product clause (e.g. to a BS) or another brand, since substituted.

• Precursor to FM specification.

• May be the result of a survey, if an existing building – hence survey sections, e.g. C14.
