As the craziness of summer begins to slow down, the Central Service Area is preparing for a great fall season for its members. The Senior ShowdownPickleball Tournament will be held Saturday, October 15 at Rockwood Park in Chesterfield County. This event has become a highly regarded competition among the Commonwealths pickleball community and includes participants from all areas of Virginia! I hope the CSA will be well represented and you may get your community involved in this wonderful event. A continuing goal of the CSA is to recruit and increase membership within VRPS. As a result of successful CSA fundraisers and workshops, three professional memberships will be awarded at the end of the year. These scholarships are geared to encourage new membership and involvement with VRPS and the service area. Please stay tuned as details will be released in the near future. Encourage any of your colleagues interested in learning more about the Society to apply for this great opportunity. I hope that you will be in attendance for the 2016 Annual Conference being held November 5-8 in Roanoke, VA. The Hotel Roanoke and Conference Center will be the site of this years conference. Committee members have worked hard to coordinate a variety of educational sessions and social events. As always, the Annual Conference is a great place to network with other professionals in the field, many of whom you may only see once a year. I look forward to seeing you all in Roanoke. Goochland News

The eastern portion of Tucker Park is open! Construction has been completed on the 23 step, non-motorized boat launch and is ready for use. The new playground is slated for completion sometime in mid-September. The eastern side also features walking paths and picnic areas. James River float times are posted on site.

Matthews Park, Goochland’s 4th park and 8th outdoor facility, is open! The 36 acre parcel includes a playground, picnic area, and 1 mile walking trail. The park is located at 5399 Matthews Road, Goochland, VA 23063.

Court House Green ribbon cutting will be held on September 11th. The Green consists of the renovated stone jail (circa 1825). Each room in the jail will represent a different era in the jail’s history. The jail will be open to the public for visits and will exist as a living history exhibit for all to experience. Additional phases of the Court House Green project will include public restrooms, a remodeled visitor’s center as well as a historical walkway that will encompass the green as well as provide interpretive signage that describes the history of the most well preserved Jeffersonian Court House in America.

Work continues on the Central High School Cultural and Educational Complex as well as on

the Elk Island Recreation Area. Both locations are expected to open in late fall.
