MEET THE STAFF MEMBER: Ms. Kemp! Originally, I am from Trinidad and Tobago. Our two islands are really one country situated approximately 7 miles from Venezuela. I was born on the smaller island, Tobago. Tobago is give or take 25 miles long and 8 miles across. I use to work on this beach. I went to school in the US and got both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from Notre Dame of Maryland University.

I love teaching, especially math. I enjoy all types of fun stuff in my spare time, from sewing to flying a kite. Some of my hobbies include drawing, swimming, and riding my bicycle. When I want to really relax I sit quietly play my guitar, and hum a tune. I have two boys who are now young men. My happiest times are when I can spend time with them. GET THE FACS Can you believe it’s already November?!? That means that the holidays are right around the corner, and our wallets are about to get a serious workout. Family and Consumer Science students in Mrs. Terry’s class learn how to be responsible consumers, by creating financial goals and learning how to budget money. A very popular day to shop for those perfect gifts for friends and family at discounted prices is on Black Friday. The Friday after Thanksgiving was named Black Friday around the 1960’s, and was used to describe the heavy and unruly pedestrian and vehicle traffic from frenzied holiday shoppers. Below are some tips on how to save some coin, and be able to give the perfect gift. 1. Shop online. In 2013, and average of 70% of Black Friday ‘doorbusters’ were available online. Many online sites even offer free shipping. 2. Purchase electronics. When shopping, concentrate on electronics, as many of the deals on Black Friday are expected to be the best prices of the year. Many stores are makes at an extra 30%-50%. 3. Shop early in the day for the best inventory and selection. Many stores only have a certain amount of sale inventory in stock, and once they are gone, the store will not offer that price, even for a raincheck. 4. Skip Black Friday shopping and the craziness that comes with it. Howard County discount stores such at T.J. Maxx and Nordstrom Rack, off Rte 175, or Marshalls and Homegoods, on Snowden River Parkway, offer designer gifts at a discount all off all the time. Be safe, spend wisely, and enjoy what the holidays are all about. Attention 6th grade Parents and Students Please visit the 6th grade website for information about an exciting new wellness program this month. (Note: an email has also been sent home). Whole Grain Heroes! Contact Mrs. Terry if you have any questions [email protected] THANKSGIVING BASKET DRIVE (NOV. 5 - 19) The Leo Club will be collecting food for a traditional Thanksgiving meal for 4 Howard County families given to us by a local charity, Neighbor Network. Each grade will be assigned items to collect. Donations will be collected in FQMS front lobby. 6th grade will collect Thanksgiving food items (corn, mashed potatoes, gravy, etc.),
