NEWSLETTER 4th Edition

Barracuda’s U10’s: Barracudas' player 9 years old Ellis Gibbs completed a magnificent 53 mile bike ride over the summer to help a little girl with disabilities. Ellis completed  the ride between York and Hull over one of the hottest  August weekends, raising money to fund specialist equipment for his friend Annie‐May, also 9 years old, who is severely disabled and has limited mobility. The money raised by Ellis contributed towards buying safety equipment to allow Annie‐May to enjoy her new specially adapted bike, giving her the freedom to go out with her sister and friends.

We won 5‐1 against Wickersley SSC, lost 3‐1 against BD3 United, the next game was a draw 0‐0, then we won 6‐2 against Middlesbrough. Although they suffered a defeat to the eventual winners it was the 0‐0 draw that really killed off the boys chances of success that day and while shorter games than they are used to and long periods off in between matches certainly didn’t help, the boys rarely showed what they are capable of when playing Futsal. However the

We say “goodbye” to a number of players who have now left us to join local professional club youth player academies.  Jaguars U13 :  Right Winger Joe Busby has joined Scunthorpe United 

Piranhas U11: Goalkeeper Callum Ladlow has joined Hull City. 

Lions U9s : Midfielder Bradley Williams and Striker Miller Fox have  joined Hull City. 

All four players have been at Hessle Sporting Club since they started playing at around 4 or 5 years of age and have stamped their own mark on the club. The quartet have also taken the tally of players moving from Hessle Sporting  to Academies to 40 since 2008 making us the biggest provider of players to the pro clubs in the region.  

The club would like to thank the four players and their parents for all their  

Spitfires U13’s Hessle Sporting Spitfires, wish to congratulate Reggie Waud on being selected to trial for both Scunthorpe United and Sheffield United. Also our goal keeper, Josh Render, on his recent selection to trial for Sheffield Wednesday. We would like to wish them both good luck and every success throughout their trials.   

The Spitfires reward for winning the Futsal League again was a trip to Futsal Leeds, to represent the ERCFA in the Yorkshire and North East Regional Youth Futsal Festival .

Cobras recent Trip to St Georges Park— On Wednesday 31st July, the Cobras visited the new England Development Centre for Football. It was a really good day in which the boys enjoyed eating their lunch in the England Changing Room. They then went on a brief but very wet tour of the facility before undertaking the coaching session. It really was a day to remember for the boys and a once in a lifetime achievement . What made it even better was the comment made by the senior head coach at the centre who said the boys behaved very well, and represented the club well, hoping that they would be back soon for another session!

Spitfires U13s CONTINUED..........

day was a good experience for the lads and they shouldn’t forget how well they have done just to get to this stage. Well done boys!! 

Finally the Spitfires were PARK TIGERS INVITATIONAL WINNERS!! The Spitfires began the new U13 season with another tournament success, winning the Park Tigers 11 a side Invitational in Scunthorpe. 

 

The boys played their usual attractive style of football for much, didn’t lost a game all day and only conceded 2 goals whilst taking  on the best teams from around the Humberside region. 

We would like to say a massive well done to all the lads and to wish them continued success in their football and anything they aspire to. Dean, Darren, and Ali 

It’s good that a team is  representing the club well and that comments are being made by officials at the development centre. The boys really enjoyed their long day.      Chris

Senior (Men’s) Team (Humber Premier League) 

The Men’s team is going through a rapid change this season in that we are introducing a few youngsters to the team along with the “old hands”. Currently we don’t have an established squad because of this.  We started a bit up and down and seem to have lost the easy games and won the hard games. Our best result was a win over  Chalk Lane out of the Premier Division in the Senior Cup and this week we travel to Bridlington to play Bridlington Town Reserves in the Senior County Cup. In the League we have drawn 1, won 2 and lost 2. Considering we are in the process of rebuilding I am not too disappointed with the results and I think we have done well.— Charlie & Sue Walker 

PARENTS NOTICE You may have already been asked to  sign your acceptance of the Parent’s Code of Conduct or will shortly be asked to do so. 

Players and coaches will also sign acceptance of their own Codes of Conduct. 

Whilst the children have been fine, the  behaviour of just a few Mums and Dads were a cause for concern last year.  We don’t wish that to happen this season.

ACADEMY NEWS The Academy is going from strength to strength with numbers increasing 

every week. 

These are two fun sessions for boys and girls 4‐6 years old on Saturday mornings to  introduce them into 

football 

First session 9.30 0 10.30 a.m. Second session 10.30 to 11.30 a.m.  

 Sessions will now be indoors at the Sports Hall, Hessle Lower School 

(next to Darleys) Bootheferry Road, Hessle. 

SUITABLE TRAINING GEAR AND  SHINPADS ARE ESSENTIAL 

JON TUCKER IS ON HIS WAY BACK FROM AMERICA.....

Jon will be arriving back in the UK on the 21st October to help us train our younger children.  

Jon wrote to the children whilst he was in America but it arrived on 21st June, too late to be included in our May newsletter, but it was reproduced on our website.    WELCOME BACK JON!   

MAKE FOOTBALL PART OF YOUR FUTURE...... Are you aged between 12 and 22 and want to gain experience and qualifications to help you take on professional coaching management or business roles within a sports environment? 

It this sounds like something you would be interested in, “Football Futures” could help you on your way. The F.A. Football Futures Leadership and Volunteering Programme aims to recruit, develop and reward young leaders within football. 

There are six themes or areas of interest for volunteers: 

1.  Coaching and working with teams 

2.  Refereeing 

3.  Running and supporting events 

4.  Promoting the game 

5.  Respect Ambassador 

6.  Running and supporting the game. 

The Club can put you in touch with Managers, Coaches, Committee members who are prepared to act as mentors to support learning and to verify volunteer hours. 

As you work through the programme, building up hours, you qualify for rewards that include sports kit, validation certificates, discount vouchers towards professional coaching and skills tuition. 

Other opportunities are opened up to you as you work through the programme as part of the Junior Football Leaders Course including contact with other teams, clubs and the local F.A. 

This programme can take you beyond grass roots club level through County F.A. organised events right through to attending the F.A.’s national Football Futures camps.

U12’s Girls Team Going into this summer our Under 12 Girls Team were left with just 3 players as the older girls moved up into the under 14's league. We have had some fantastic support from many people within the Club helping us recruit new players and would like to thank ­ Alan Hall, Damian Wright, Sam Abbott and many others for all of their help and support. There were times when it was touch and go whether or not we had a team for the start of the season, but we eventually got there 

The U7 Dragons arrived at the ERCFA’s Sir Bobby Robson day tournament with just 6 players led by a 16 year old coach on his managerial debut – what could possibly go wrong? Three hours of fun in the sun later, they left with 2 wins, 8 goals, great support, seamless  organisation, brilliant goodie bags and free ice lollies. What a great day! Well done Dragons!     

 It's still early days yet but all of the players have made excellent progress with a brilliant 5 wins from their opening 6 games, scoring 37 goals along the way, and now Top of the League.  Their best victory come last weekend (12th Oct 2013) with a massive 7­1 win against last seasons arch rivals Mill Lane Utd. Here's to the rest of the season !!!  Paul Dodsworth (Coach

What a week! The week of 5—9 August 2013 won’t just be remembered for the t great British Weather.  It will stay long in the memory of all who took part in a fantastic week of top quality sports education at the Recca organised by Hessle Sporting Club in conjunction with our  fantastic football partners including the F.A., Coerver Coaching UK, 4sports Street Soccer and of course the club’s dedicated managers, coaches, committee members and parents.  

STREET SOCCER SPORTING STYLE On the Recca on Friday 9th, four giant inflatable street soccer arenas appeared on the Recca on which was just the first indication of the fun to come! Within the hour 4Sports turned up the volume and got the four inflatable pitches ready and the players buzzing with energy as they demonstrated the moves and techniques required to play the game. Street Soccer is played on 10 x 5 metre pitches with three players on each team. The style of play is fast one‐touch football played to belting street music where the length of the music track determines the length of each session of play. The street soccer activity was enjoyed by a group of players in the age range 4—7 in the morning and by another group of players aged 8—13 in the afternoon either side of their Coerver Coaching sessions.  

Although the games are short, the intensity makes the sessions both physically and mentally demanding and is an excellent training vehicle as well as being fantastic fun! The activity was provided entirely free of charge by 4Sports who had travelled from Essex to put on the activity as part of the Club’s day of top quality sports education organized in conjunction with Coerver Coaching UK .

TESCO SKILLS DAYS

Two hours per morning, three consecutive mornings during  the week,  with children of all ages and abilities.  

This was a Free event offered by the F.A and open to all and enjoyed by everyone who took part. Our thanks must go to Sue Smith and Daniel O’Keeffe for coming along and coaching the children. 

Coerver Coaching UK Held on the same day as the Street Soccer, players who enjoyed the first Coerver Day back in April were eager to get started again with Coerver, this time following the theme of “learn to play the German Way”. 

Using the excellent facilities of Hessle Tennis Club as a classroom ‘base’ , players were shown the training video to introduce the session aims and to learn more about the internationally acclaimed Coerver Coaching style. After the ‘theory’ session, players came out on to the Recca to put the drills and techniques into practice under the guidance of professional Coerver Coaches.  

The sessions were organised into age groups with 4—10 year olds in the morning and the 10‐14 year olds in the afternoon—each group having the opportunity to enjoy the Street Soccer, Panna Cage and Tuck Shop when they weren’t on their Coerver session. 

The Coerver coaching included 80 children with the vast majority Hessle Sporting Players with the club subsidising part of the total cost. 

Hessle Sporting on the telly! The day was made all the more exciting by the presence of the paparazzi in the form of the Hull Daily Mail, TV cameras from  BBC Look North and radio crews from both BBC Radio Humberside and 96.9 VikingFM, all of whom had taken the opportunity to use the coaching day as a backdrop to conducting interviews and recording material in preparation of the Club’s big announcement regarding the Sport England Grant Funding.

PERSONAL LETTER FROM OUR PRESIDENT Dear Parents and Players, For the many years I have been involved with Hessle Sporting Club it has been known as a friendly, family club with its main aim directed towards its young members who are the heart of this club. It has always been Hessle Sporting Club’s  vision to secure a permanent ground and club house for present and future generations.  With your help we can make this happen. Hessle Sporting has been running since 1976 and started with one team and has grown over the years with the club now boasting 27 + teams.  We have now arrived at the most important stage in the history of our club with the real prospect of building a new club house within the next year. Our Funding & Development Officer has worked extremely hard and has been successful in raising £50,000 towards the cost of a new building from Sport England.  A further grant is dependent upon everyone within the club demonstrating they have the heart and the passion to help ourselves raise as much money as possible over the coming 6—8 months. I would ask all members to please help and support all the upcoming events and sponsorships which the club will be running throughout the months ahead. We have waited so many years for this to happen and we need all your support and help to seal the club’s future for many years to come. Yours sincerely,

We have some other grant applications in the pipeline, but the grant funds are limited. We already have £50,000 via a grant and In today’s climate there is a view that we shouldn’t “be handed everything on a plate” and should be prepared to raise additional funds from our own efforts.   

How can YOU help? 1.  By volunteering for “hands on” help—being a Marshall on our fun run, taking a 2 hour or more slot to help at 

our Tournament, joining the kids in a bag pack, participating in our fun run. If you work for BARCLAYS bank they will help you by contributing up to £500 to our club for volunteering your time. 

2.  By being a “parent contact” in your team so we can send you up to date information on the latest events/fund raising ideas and in turn “spread the word” to other parents in your team. 

3.  Taking a table at our Sportsman Dinner in February—we have a less risqué speaker and Ladies are welcome!

PUT HESSLE FIRST You’ll be seeing this logo appear all over Hessle, on shop windows, carrier bags, posters, adverts, and on our website. 

Formed about six months ago,, Hessle First is a traders  association run by the businesses and interest groups of Hessle to promote the town and all it has to offer.  

Hessle First brought the Bridlington Land Train to Hessle for the August Farmers Market to conduct a ’pilot’ exercise looking at ways to bring more visitors into the centre of town. Over the course of the weekend, 1300 visitors took a trip on the train circulating between the market and Hessle Square. rs into the Square area to see what else Hessle has to offer. The group has been involved in the planning for this year’s Hessle Feast and will be actively involved in the town’s Christmas activities. 

Hessle Sporting Club is a member of the group as we feel that it is important that we play an active part in our community representing so many local families and many of our member parents being resident, working or trading in and around the town.

NEW CLUB PARTNERS VIKING FM

The Club will be working in close partnership with 96.9VikingFM this season. The radio station has already given the Club extensive promotion for the summer football activities and has broadcast an interview with our own Damian Wright regarding the Sport England grant funding. Well known for their outside broadcasting and support for public events,  we hope to be able to include 96.9VikingFM in our plans for next year’s Annual Tournament and other special events throughout the season. 

HESSLE ALL SAINTS PRIMARY SCHOOL We are indebted to Hessle All Saints Primary School and in particular Mr Petch  for allowing the Club to establish the schools playing fields as a training and match facility this season.  

Many hours have already been spent by Hessle Federation  Groundsman, Alex Riley, in preparing the pitches and playing surfaces and teams in the Under 11’s will be using these facilities soon.

GRASSROOTS PROGRAMME LAUNCHES Hessle Sporting Club are delighted to announce that we have secured a partnership with the world’s number 1 coaching organisation “Coerver”. 

The Partner Club Programme aims to provide professional support to Hessle Sporting Club during the next two years covering a range of support including coach education, player coaching, session planning, with all areas being underpinned by a cutting edge web‐based support platform available to players, parents and coaches.  Included in the support are 5 “Play like the Stars Roadshows”, discounted Adidas products, and pro‐club tours.   

Last season Coerver took players from within their academies to A.C. Milan, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Stoke City and Liverpool.  These opportunities are now available to our Hessle Sporting Club players. 

Coerver Director Scott Wright stated “it has been well documented in the media that changes need to be made if we are to develop better coaches and subsequently better players in this country”. 

Hessle Sporting Club share the same long term vision as Coerver and had to go through a stringent process to achieve Partner Club status.
