NOTES FROM THE COMMITTEE

A warm welcome to everybody involved with Mile Oak FC today; players,supporters managers & committee. Also a warm welcome to our matchofficials Colin Mallows, Brian Richardson and Daniel Cooper. We hope youenjoy your time at The Shooting Field today and we all get to see or beinvolved in a good game of football. We are looking to pick ourselves uptoday after a recent poor run of results which has seen us sit in 8th positionin the league. Our most recent outing was a 4 nil reverse at Oakwood inmidweek. Not a good result but the performance possibly warranted a bitmore than we got by comparison Oak were 6 nil winners at home toRustington in the cup. Quite a contrast. Although our last few results havebeen disappointing we should focus on the positives. We sit eighth, havewon 3 lost 3, have won 1 & lost 1 in the cup and have so much to play for.We have players still to come back and should not feel sorry for ourselvesand should be looking forward with optimism.The reserves have also suffered a bit in recent weeks and hopefully animpending announcement on the new reserve manager will see a changein fortunes. This will free up Fred Proto, who has been a huge assistancein these early weeks, to step up and assist with the first team. Off the pitchthe sponsors are still coming in thick and fast, a big thumbs up for the waywe are running the club, as people don't support financially unless theysee it as worthwhile.Great to see so many youngsters up here last week on match day. Theremust have been around 30 youngsters under the age of 16 in and aroundthe club last Saturday. It's really good to see and breathes more life in tothe club.We are just starting to think about our annual sports quiz night. Keep aneye out for mid to late October. Oakwood 4 Steyning 0On Tuesday night, for the second time in barely a month, TinsleyLane was not a happy place for us, going down 4-0 to Oakwood.We came into the fixture looking to bounce back after two straightdefeats. Joe Huggins came in at centre-back and Lee Earlyswitched to right-back in place of Rob Hare. Lewis Levoi was alsoback in the side. The game started brightly enough with bothsides playing the ball around nicely and for us Kris Harding andRyan Warr went close early on with plenty of industry from LewisLevoi. However, Oakwood had a vigour and determination aboutthem and it wasn’t long before they were causing us problemswith striker Tom Lyons making dangerous inroads and testingAaron Jeal on 20 minutes with a fine strike. On 22 minutes a foulby Ash Towler presented Oaks with a free-kick deep in our half,which was headed home by defender Ben Arthur. 1-0 Oakwood.A few minutes later Toby Gilbert almost put Oaks two nil up,heading against the upright. We still had our chances and late inthe half a good effort from the edge of the box by Jack Boxalldipped just over the bar, but then things really fell apart. On 43minutes they hit us on the break with Clive Piller smashing homean unstoppable shot from the edge of the box and right on half-time Toby Gilbert made it three.Half time – Oakwood 3 Steyning 0In the second–half we tried to get back into the game and didcreate chances with Ryan Warr going close on a couple ofoccasions, shooting just wide and then shooting at the keeperafter a good run. Kris Harding also mixed things well up front butthe introduction of subs, Matt Dodd, Curt Milner and David Harrisdid not change the pattern of the game sufficiently.
