Who Is The Trinity?
The doctrine of the Holy Trinity is not an easyconcept to grasp. Most descriptions andillustrations often wind up explaining or describinga heresy about who and what God really is ratherthan clarifying this teaching of the church. God isnot one being with three different job titles, orthree separate pieces that when put togetherbecome one being. God doesn't have multiplepersonality disorder or shed one role to take onanother. There's no hierarchy to the Trinity. Godthe Father didn't pick a human man to be God theSon, and God the Holy Spirit isn't God's physicalbreath. It's almost easier to explain who theTrinity isn't than who the Trinity is: one eternalbeing comprised of three separate but equalpersons.
As confusing as the Trinity may be, it is how thechurch has collectively come to understand whoGod is. We proclaim this understandingthroughout the order of worship: the presider andthe assembly greet each other in the name of thetriune God, and later we proclaim our belief in theTrinity when we recite the creed.
It's not a mistake that the reading for todayincludes the Great Commission: to make disciplesof all nations, "baptizing them in the name of theFather and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit"(Matt. 28:19). Whenever we gather to performthe ritual of baptism, we begin by declaring ourfaith in God who created us, redeemed us, andsustains us. Through baptism we become childrenof God, and God makes a promise to be with usalways. Understanding that promise is the key tounderstanding the triune God. The Trinity is Godwho created us, saved us, and supports us in ourlives of faith. The Trinity is God who loves usdeeply and passionately and who desires our love. The Trinity is God being present in our lives evento the end of the age.

Trinity will be a Good Neighbor: Resettling a Refugee Family
The first few months in theUnited States are the mostintensive for refugees andimmigrants. To ease thetransition, Lutheran SocialServices / National Capital Area will match Trinity in the next fewmonths with a refugee family tohelp provide additional supportfor a short period of time.
Trinity, as a Good Neighbor, will give a refugee familya greater sense of belonging in Maryland. Dependingon the needs of a particular family we will meetingrefugees at the airport, furnish and prepare their firstapartment, providing guidance on shopping, banking, transportation and other local resources.
