Where has the time gone?! You may have noticed a skip in the playground this week. We have been having a big clean up around the buildings and yard. One of the main jobs is preparing our Mahogany Room as part of our Behaviour Management revamp. I spoke at assembly this week about the classroom ladders that are being prepared for each room. It is all about rewarding positive behaviours to ensure we have an orderly and safe learning environment. Students can earn points for displaying our school values. They have been tweaked to read; Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible and Be a Learner. Students will be able to move up the ladder (green zone) as they display the behaviours that reflect our values. If students are able to achieve the set points each week, they will have the opportunity to spend time in the Mahogany Room- filled with a foosball table, pool table, Wii, magazines, books, bean bags and occasionally some special treats! We are also going to re-launch the Pop-Up Shop to encourage students to earn their Kids Cash. I cant wait! While this is all about the positive behaviours, students move down the ladder (red zone) if they make poor choices. This will happen in the following way; Verbal warning, Move to quiet area within the classroom, Move to buddyclassroom and Move to office with a phone call home. At the start of each day, students commence at the yellow zone. I cant wait to see the Mahogany Room filled with students at the end of each week! I also encourage all parents and carers to discuss the Classroom Ladder with your child. Thanks for your support! I am also excited to announce that we will be welcoming a new Acting Assistant Principal soon! Keep an eye on the Facebook page for more info on the new addition to our great school. As I mentioned in the last newsletter, Im a big advocate for health and wellbeing. I run regularly (nearly at 500kms for the year so far!) and try to maintain a balanced diet. So dont be surprised if every-now-and-then I include some tips in my newsletter article about being healthy. The Department of Health & Human Services advises everyone to get their flu shot now to be protected for the peak flu season, which is generally June to September - I got mine on Wednesday and didn't shed a tear!! There are also some simple steps everyone can take to help stop the spread of the flu. If you feel a sneeze or cough coming on, cough or sneeze into your elbow. It stops your hands getting covered in the flu virus. Our hands are one of the top spreaders of germs and viruses. Washing your hands thoroughly with soap and water at regular intervals throughout the day is a quick and easy way to help stop the spread of the flu. Principal’s Report Can you believe we’re in June already? Where has the time gone?! You may have noticed a skip in the playground this week. We have been having a big clean up around the buildings and yard. One of the main jobs is preparing our Mahogany Room as part of our Behaviour Management revamp. I spoke at assembly this week about the classroom ladders that are being prepared for each room. It is all about rewarding positive behaviours to ensure we have an orderly and safe learning environment. Students can earn points for displaying our school values. They have been tweaked to read; Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible and Be a Learner. We are also going to re-launch the Pop-Up Shop to encourage students to earn their Kids Cash. I can’t wait!

While this is all about the positive behaviours, students move down the ladder (red zone) if they make poor choices. This will happen in the following way; Verbal warning, Move to quiet area within the classroom, Move to ‘buddy’ classroom and Move to office with a phone call home.

At the start of each day, students commence at the yellow zone. I can’t wait to see the Mahogany Room filled with students at the end of each week! I also encourage all parents and carers to discuss the Classroom Ladder with your child. Thanks for your support!

I am also excited to announce that we will be welcoming a new Acting Assistant Principal soon! Keep an eye on the Facebook page for more info on the new addition to our great school.

What has been happening in Prep/1A

Term 2 brings with it Prep/1A’s turn to work with Bob from ARDOCH. We have loved making lots of different creations out of wood cuttings that Bob brings in. Bob also tells us lots of amazing stories and sings us awesome songs. We love having him in our room every Wednesday morning.

We loved being at Werribee Zoo last week and checking out all of the different animals. We had an amazing experience on the safari when giraffes and a curious ostrich came right up close to the bus. We were super quiet so that we wouldn’t scare the wallabies and even got to see the gorillas eating their lunch. What an amazing day!

In reading and writing this term we have worked with procedural texts. We got to make lots of different things to go with our procedures including smiley cookies, fairy bread and butter.

We have just started a unit on poems and are working on coming up with and hearing rhyming words within lots of different poems.

In maths we have started working on collecting data and presenting it in lots of different ways. We have practiced asking yes/no questions and collecting the answers in tally's. This week we are putting this information into pictographs and bar graphs. Our grade 1s are working with Mrs Hewson’s class this week to learn about chance.

We cannot believe that we are over halfway through Term 2 and are so excited about the second half of this term!

Werribee Zoo Excursion Last week students from Prep to Grade 4 attended the Werribee Zoo. They had an amazing time learning and looking at all of the animals.
