Provide our community, our nation, our world the fortitude to provide work for all which is decent and fair. Make us faithful stewards of your creation to enhance the human dignity of our global family. LOVE ONE ANOTHER JOHN 13 Catholic Parish of The Sacred Heart – Our Mission Through the power of the Holy Spirit we will be a parish renewed in our knowledge and understanding of the love of Jesus Christ, to enable each of us to fulfil our Christian mission Todays Gospel is taken from John 13:31-35 The commandment of Jesus to love one another is so familiar, people are in danger of not realising exactly what is been commanded. Jesus gave this command to his followers at the Last Supper, just after Judas had left to carry out his hideous betrayal. Jesus is completely aware of what Judas is going to do and can even speak of the deed as a means of glorification in the sense that the will of God is going to be accomplished. He tells the disciples, using the term of endearment, ‘little ones’, that he will not be with them much longer. The action of Judas had sealed his fate. So before the end, there is a new commandment. ‘Love one another’. This love must not be defined just emotionally. It is more than feeling. It is putting of the other person first in respect and with forgiveness. It is the seeking of their well-being, whatever they have done. It is the wish to offer reconciliation which leads to a person being made whole. It is the copying of Christ who went out of his way to offer such love to all. It is also the visible sign of those who truly follow him. Taken from The Word of God, Year C by Robin Cooper There will be afternoon tea on the above date for conversation and friendship. Hazel Kerr will talk about her Great Great Grannies Quilt. Tickets are on sale after Mass for £5.00. The next baptism preparation classes will be held on Saturdays 25 May and 1 June, starting at 10.00 am for one hour in the St Francis Suite. The parish encourages all new parents asking for baptism of their child, to attend. We also welcome parents who may wish to renew their preparation for baptism as their families grow larger. Asking for baptism for your child is the start of your child's sacramental journey in the Church. The sessions look at your role in the development of your child's faith, what you ask of the Church and the promises you make on behalf of your child. We look forward to seeing you and your family. Godparents and grandparents are welcome to join us. BAPTISM PREPARATION COURSE

CIRCLE OF PRAYER FOR MAY THE DIGNITY OF HUMAN WORK

Dear God, thank you for providing us with the gift to share our talents. Provide our community, our nation, our world the fortitude to provide work for all which is decent and fair. Make us faithful stewards of your creation to enhance the human dignity of our global family.

LOVE ONE ANOTHER – JOHN 13

Catholic Parish of The Sacred Heart – Our Mission Through the power of the Holy Spirit we will be a parish renewed in our knowledge and understanding of the love of Jesus Christ, to enable each of us to fulfil our Christian mission

Todays Gospel is taken from John 13:31-35

The commandment of Jesus to love one another is so familiar, people are in danger of not realising exactly what is been commanded. Jesus gave this command to his followers at the Last Supper, just after Judas had left to carry out his hideous betrayal. Jesus is completely aware of what Judas is going to do and can even speak of the deed as a means of glorification in the sense that the will of God is going to be accomplished.

FEAST OF ST CHRISTOPHER MAGALLANES AND HIS COMPANIONS – 21 MAY

Cristóbal Magallanes Jara was born in the state of Jalisco in Mexico in 1869. He was ordained priest at the age of 30 and became parish priest of his home town of Totatiche. He took a special interest in the evangelisation of the local indigenous Huichol people and founded a mission for them. When government persecution of the Catholic Church began and the seminaries were closed, he opened a small local auxiliary seminary. He wrote and preached against armed rebellion but was falsely accused of promoting the Cristero rebellion. He was arrested on 21 May 1927 while on the way to celebrate Mass at a farm. He was executed without a trial, but not before giving his remaining possessions to his executioners and giving them absolution. With him are celebrated 24 other Mexican martyrs of the early 20th century.
