Old Park Primary School Website
Our website can be found at www.oldparkprimary.com If you click on the News & Events page you will find an up to date annual calendar. This calendar contains the term dates, training days and other events. Occasionally dates change due to circumstances beyond our control. Please check the calendar regularly.
School Office Hours
The school office opens at 8.15am and closes at 4.30pm Monday - Thursday and 4.00pm on a Friday. If you would like to report your child’s absence from school outside of these hours, you can do so by sending a text message to the school on 0121 285 1063 or via the school gateway, letting us know your child’s name, class and reason for absence If you have ordered snack or a lunch for your child and they are absent, please inform us and we will cancel this for you.
Our new school office email address is [email protected]
Arriving LateThe school bell rings at 8.50am, parents have 5 minutes to ensure their child is in class before the gate is closed. Any child arriving late must be signed in at the school office by an adult over 16 years of age. Please ensure that you sign your child in late and this is recorded otherwise your child will appear absent on their class register and this is a major fire safety risk.
Our January attendance was great, well done everyone - especially Sharks
Medical Appointments/Early CollectionIf your child has a medical appointment during school time, proof of the appointment is needed. This can be a letter, appointment card or by showing us an appointment text. If the appointment is during school hours please ensure you come to the main office to sign them out, your child will then be brought up to the office and handed to you.

Communicating with Parents
Thank you to those of you who took the time to respond to our communication survey.
As a result of your responses we are pleased to confirm that we have agreed the following procedures.
Text Messages
The difficulty when sending text messages is that we are restricted by the number of characters we use, therefore, messages can often seem curt. In future, unless the message can be very brief we will now only send a text that will prompt you to check your e-mail for further detail.
Notice Periods
Where possible we will provide you with a minimum of one months notice for clubs and in school events and a minimum of 2 months notice for school visits. One reminder will be sent out for trips and most other events a couple of days prior. Parents that have forgotten to given consent or not been up to date with payments will be contacted separately.
If there is a change, e.g if a club or event is cancelled on the same day then a call and a text message will be sent.
Annual Calendar
As I am sure you are aware we have a live annual calendar on the school website. On occasion dates do have to change. We will contact relevant parents regarding changes via e-mail or text (dependent on detail required) with as much notice as possible. This message will inform you of the event change and direct you to the annual live calendar.
We are aware that many families across school have siblings, where possible we will try to avoid event clashes.
Facebook & Twitter
Social media is a tool that we use in celebration of events, achievements and to prompt educational thoughts. If it is used to inform you of events then this is in addition to direct messages.
If you have any further comments relating to the way we communicate with you then please do not hesitate to e-mail the school office.

Important Message - Parking
Can we remind parents/carers once again to ensure that they are parking and driving considerately at drop off and pick up. I know the very last thing we want is a serious injury for the sake of saving a few seconds.
We are pleased to see that the council have responded to the requests of residents and parents and placed bollards at the junction of Old Park Rd
and Goldby Drive.
Playground
Please can we remind parents that children should be supervised in the playground before and after school. Due to the numbers of people, old and young can we ask you you ensure that you keep your children with you until the the doors open and ensure that they are not playing ball
games. To avoid injury to themselves or others children not be running around the playground if it is unsafe to do so.
We would like to say welcome and thank you to the new parents that have recently joined ParentPay.
We hope your child/children are enjoying the hot and cold meals provided by Mellors.
NEW DINNER MENU
From 25th February there will be a new menu available. Please remember to pre-order your child’s meals on ParentPay and credit your child’s account (if needed) within 2 hours
otherwise the meals selected will disappear and your child will show as having no pre-order.Please see school website for new menus.
SNACKS
Can we also remind parents that when ordering snack this needs to be paid for at the time of order. If parents have accrued a debt this needs to be paid on the dinner section of
ParentPay. Please do not order items unless you have paid for them, this order will only be processed if you have paid for the items ordered.
Thank you

Young Voices
Friday 25th January saw the return of Young Voices in Birmingham - something our children look forward to each year.
After months of rehearsals, the day had arrived and the chance for our choir members to join thousands of other children from all over the UK, in singing their hearts out to a sell out audience.
They did not disappoint! An electric atmosphere and a night enjoyed by all.
We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who
wore a Christmas Jumper on the 20th December and
donated 50p.We raised £189.35
