KPS Fair

Wine, Cheese and Ideas Night! Our KPS Fair is coming on the 11th November, and we need your ideas!

THIS TUESDAY 28th February,

7.30 to 9.00pm in the staff room

Come along and share your ideas for the school fair over

wine and cheese.

This is intended to be a casual, enjoyable evening to get the ball rolling for our

2017 Fair. It will also be a great opportunity for families new to our school to

meet other families.

While we’d of course love any offers of ongoing help with fair planning (however large

or small), rest assured that you can come along to our Ideas Night with no expectation of

ongoing commitment.

SCHOOL News

What’s happening in 5A?

In the Senior School we know how

important goal setting is to achieving our

goals. We each set 4 personal goals for

our learning in Term 1. One for:

Maths

Literacy

Writing

Extra-curricular

In Maths we are focusing on improving our quick recall of

times tables! Some fun games we have been playing

include Circle Champion and Spiral Multiplication using a

deck of cards and dice.

We have been

working hard to

improve our

teamwork skills in

Grade 5. Some of

these activities

included a

Scavenger Hunt using QR codes, and a building

challenge to create structures using playdough and

toothpicks.

Check out our class blog for more updates on our

learning!

SCHOOL News

St John Ambulance - First Aid Incursion

St John Ambulance visited our school on Monday the 13th of February to deliver free First Aid in Schools training to ours students. Through the First Aid in Schools program, trained St John presenters led students from all grades through tailored sessions on the importance of First Aid and what to do in the event of an emergency. Our junior students learnt about how to identify when there is an emergency, keeping themselves safe, and how to call for an ambulance. Senior students learnt about delivering CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and the things they can do to

assist in an emergency.

All students have been given a special piece of homework for parents to

complete: we hope you had some time to do this over the last week.

We encourage you to “do your homework” and go online (www.stjohnvic.com.au/quiz) to see how much you know about First Aid.

More information about the St John First Aid in Schools program can be

found at:

LIBRARY News

Borrowing a Book?

Is it the ‘right fit’? Library borrowing is well under way with our students borrowing each week

during their library session. Please make time to talk with your child about

library and the books they have borrowed. The library books make ideal stories

for bedtime reading or sharing as a family. If students happen to bring home a

library book that is too difficult for them to read, use this as an opportunity to

have some quality family time, reading the book to your child.

Learning to borrow from a library brings with it the challenge of finding a book

that is the ‘right fit’ as there are books in our library suitable for students from

grades Prep to 6. Students are reminded to read the blurb, and flick through the

pages to check the book before borrowing. However, sometimes they may bring

home a book that is not quite the right fit, being more suited to a younger or

possibly older student. If this happens, have a chat about checking the book is

‘the right fit’. If it is suitable in content, but out of reach of their reading ability,

why not read it to them! Alternatively if the book is too easy, they may still

enjoy the story so allow them to enjoy the book and return it when finished. If

you have any queries about the books your child is borrowing, please do not

hesitate to contact me.

Library donations: Thank you to the Piperkos

family, Meropy Barut and a past family who

have donated a huge bag of books for the

library. They are very much appreciated.
