CORPUS CHRISTI CATHOLIC SCHOOL 1 20 August 2015 NEWSLETTER Number 14 From the Principal… Rachel Kelly Acting Principal Dear Parents/Guardians, Last week we celebrated Catholic Education Week. This is a time to reflect and rejoice in our Catholic identity. Catholic schools are continually called and challenged to make a difference - to be places where “all creation is made new in Christ”. Thank you to students from Prep – Grade 6 who represented Corpus Christi Catholic School at a combined school Mass of Thanksgiving at the St. Mary’s Cathedral last Thursday. Sitting front and centre in the “Catholic Castle” their behaviour and participation was simply awesome. Fr. Peter, Mrs McGann, Mrs Banks and myself were very privileged and proud to be part of this celebration with our young ambassadors. “The mission of schools is to develop a sense of truth, of what is good and beautiful. And this occurs through a rich path made up of many ingredients.” Pope Francis Corpus Christi Catholic School Advisory Board Appointments It is my pleasure to inform you that Mr John Mula, The Director of Catholic Education Tasmania, has appointed the following parents to the Corpus Christi Advisory Board; Mr Michael Sylvester, Mr Brent Dawkins and Mr Michael Allen. Thank you gentlemen for your willingness to contribute to our school community in this capacity. Congratulations Congratulations to Simon and Keryn Treweek on the birth of their son Henry. Congratulations also to Sophie Giltinan (6M) who has been selected as a finalist in the Young Creative Writers Awards. Sophie’s work will be published and she will be attending the award ceremony at Government House in September. This is a wonderful achievement Sophie with your creative flare and hard work being recongised at a state-wide level. Grade 3/4 Parish Mass This Sunday students and their families from Grade 3 and Grade 4 have been invited to attend the Sunday Mass at 10.30am. Students will be involved in various aspects of this celebration, further strengthening the link between Parish, family and school. Concert Classes are certainly getting their acts together in preparation for the school concert. Apologies to everyone in Bellerive for the drums and electric guitars pumping out of Grade 6 on Wednesday afternoons. Concert times and ticketing information has been distributed to parents today. This year we are moving to an online booking system for tickets, with bookings opening tomorrow. Limit of 4 tickets for any one session – 6 tickets in total. Fingers crossed this runs smoothly, making this a much easier process for parents and staff.

P&F Quiz Night Thank you to all in our school community who contributed to the success of the Quiz Night; the P&F organisers, the many sponsors in our community and parents and staff for your participation. A great night! P&F Disco On Friday 28 August we are having our one and only disco for 2015. This is a combined Kindergarten – Grade 6 disco, organised by the P&F with the Grade 6 Mini Vinnies Committee running the music side of things. As this is an out of hours event, parents must sign their children in and out of the hall on drop off and pick up. For our Kindergarten students, we request parents stay throughout the duration of the disco. Please read on in the newsletter for the “Disco Flyer” to find out more. Athletics Carnival This year our Kinder – Grade 6 athletics carnival will be held at the Domain Athletics Centre on Wednesday 4 November. This is the first time we’ve held our Athletics Carnival away from Kangaroo Bay. We will bus all students to the Domain, with use of facilities being a great advantage in staging this event. More information will be distributed closer to the event. Book Week – Books Light Up Our World Are you as excited about Book Week as Miss Jones and Mrs Lowe? The Book Week Parade is back and will be held at 12.15pm on Wednesday 26 August. Also next week is the Book Fair. Grade 1 Religion Prayer is a very important part of our day in Grade 1. We start each day with a prayer, to help us to think about the day ahead, to ask Jesus or God to help with something, or to pray with a special focus. Our special focus at the moment is “Under the Sea”, as we think about all of God’s creatures but especially the sea creatures that we need to take care of. Here is a prayer that we wrote as a Grade, thanking God and asking for his help.!
